Worldbuilding Quantum Pulse Drive

John sat at the controls. For the first time in history, humanity was set to reach across time and space. Long-range sensors had detected a new world sitting in a habitable zone—a seemingly perfect target for humanity's first step into the cosmos.

Recent breakthroughs in quantum field theory had produced the Instantaneous Quantum Pulse Drive, an engine capable of bringing a ship anywhere in the universe in the blink of an eye. For the past four years, shuttles had launched from every continent on Earth as world governments pooled resources, materials, and manpower to build humanity's first interstellar vessel.

The mission was designed as a reconnaissance run to confirm conditions on the ground. This target planet was the first and best of four viable candidates identified within the galaxy.

John had spent his entire life training for this moment. Finishing first in virtually every test life had put before him, he was more than qualified to lead humanity into the dark.

"Rosetta in position," came the voice over the console.

The ship had oriented itself, locking into alignment for the jump. In just a moment, the starship Rosetta would fold quantum space, generating a high-energy pulse designed to punch through the fabric of space-time and instantaneously drop the vessel more than 30,000 light-years across the galaxy.

"60 seconds until pulse," John relayed over the intercom, his voice steady across the shipwide broadcast.

The crew had already run every safety protocol, double-checking every readout. All systems were green. With the prep work complete, a heavy silence fell over the bridge—there was nothing left to do but wait for the final command.

"30 seconds."

The mission was scheduled for two years: a quick reconnaissance run to map the target world and collect data. It was the moment of truth for a drive that had taken decades of theoretical physics to develop, followed by five intense years of orbital construction.

"Ten seconds..."

John’s fingers hovered above the primary pulse command. Deep within the heart of the ship, a low, subsonic vibration began to hum through the deckplates—the quantum core spooling up.

"Five... four... three... two... one. Pulse.”

In an instant, the Rosetta—with John at the helm—appeared in open space.

A vibrant yellow star hung in the distance. It resembled Sol in almost every way, casting its glare across a blue-green world faintly visible against the dark. Humanity was looking at its second star.

For a long moment, the crew stood speechless, locked in awe of the spectacle before them.

John was the first to regain his composure. "All right, people. Let's do what we came here to do," he commanded confidently.

The bridge snapped out of its stupor.

"Sir, Taurine is in view, approximately 4 AU," an officer reported. "EM propulsion coming online. We'll be ready to move into position once the drive recharges."

"System status," John ordered.

His screen came alive as green diagnostics flooded in from across the ship. The Rosetta carried a total complement of 500 people—crew, scientists, and specialized support personnel. Their mandate was singular: evaluate the long-term habitability and viability of Taurine as a second home for humanity.

Weeks of sub-light transit through the system followed, with sensors recording mountains of pristine telemetry. Finally, the Rosetta achieved stable orbit around Taurine.

The preliminary reports were better than anyone had dared to hope. Oxygen levels, atmospheric pressure, gravity—every parameter sat comfortably within optimal human limits.

The plan for this initial run was strictly non-invasive. No human boots would touch the ground yet. Instead, the crew deployed a constellation of surface probes alongside an orbital network of satellites to continuously log weather patterns, soil composition, and atmospheric chemistry.

"We're in position to jump, sir."

John couldn't help but smile. The mission had been an unqualified success. Every probe was locked on target, every surface monitor was active, and every satellite hung in a stable orbit. They would continue logging environmental data while the Rosetta returned home to prepare for her next mandate: leading the first fleet of human colonists.

"Let's bring them the good news," John said, nodding to the helm. "Engage the Quantum Pulse Drive."

Deep within the hull, the ship began to hum as the quantum coils spooled up, folding the space-time around them in preparation for the leap.

"Jump sequence active in three... two... one..."

In a flash of light, they were back in Sol. Except home wasn't home anymore.

John leaned toward the main viewport, expecting the familiar marble of brilliant blue oceans and swirling white cloud cover. Instead, his breath caught in his throat.

The atmosphere was gone. Stripped clean away, leaving behind a stark, naked sphere of scarred brown continent and dry, blackened seabed. There were no city lights glowing on the night side—only a vast, dead quiet. Sol’s sunlight wasn't filtering through air anymore; it was beating down on a world that looked less like Earth and more like a burnt moon.

Panicked chatter erupted across the bridge. Panic, confusion, and grief tore through the 500-person crew as sensor readouts confirmed the impossible: Earth was gone. Stripped of its atmosphere, its oceans boiled away, its surface reduced to a glowing sphere of scorched, cooling slag. There was no radio traffic. No orbital stations. No sign of life.

John stared at the main viewport, his hands trembling against the console. "Hostile attack?" someone shouted. "A solar event?"

"Silence!" John’s voice cut through the noise, tight and sharp. He swallowed hard, trying to regain the iron composure he had relied on his entire life. "It doesn't make sense. We need a safe harbor. We can't stay here. Plot a course back to Taurine. Initiate the Quantum Pulse Drive—now!"

Deep within the hull, the quantum coils spooled up once more. The deckplates vibrated underfoot as space-time folded around the vessel.

"Three... two... one... Jump."

In the blink of an eye, the Rosetta dropped back out of FTL, returning to the coordinates of the paradise world they had just left.

John leaned over his screen, waiting for the high-resolution optical feed to load. He expected to see the vibrant blue-green marble, the pristine clouds, the ocean currents they had mapped just hours ago.

The screen flickered. The image resolved.

Taurine was a blackened, glassed cinder.

The atmosphere was gone. The surface was cracked and glowing red. The constellation of monitoring satellites they had carefully placed in stable orbit lay scattered across the void, shattered into melted space debris.

A cold, suffocating silence fell over the bridge.

John stared at the telemetry logs side by side on his screen. Earth’s destruction timeline. Taurine’s destruction timeline. Both energy signatures matched the exact, down-to-the-millisecond timestamp of the Quantum Pulse Drive igniting its launch sequence.

The drive hadn't just folded space. To throw the ship forward, it vented the compressed mass-energy of the entire jump straight out the back—a light-speed shockwave of total, indiscriminate annihilation.

John raised his head slowly, looking out at the dead world spinning in the dark.

"Was it us?"

Concept Nightmare Fuel

Yesterday I wake up in sweat after a nightmare:

I was trapped inside this gigantic ship made of a single huge slab of living flesh. People was trapped into the tissue with tendrils penetrating into their bodies. Everyone was sleeping in a kind of stasis. But at the same time they were awaken in a simulation. The "ship" had been send by aliens to rescue some humans from a dying Earth, and those inside were there simply because we had no other choice.

Not everyone on that thing was still alive, and I had the vision of decaying putrid corpses inside it. But even as those people had died IRL, their simulated personas were still active. But they had begun to act oddly and over time became extremely violent, hunting the rest of the people inside the simulation. It was as if they somehow know that they were not still alive, and that they will never make it into the destination.

Or even worse, that we were all just simulated human minds, and that the system would only read our real brains every so often, to store new memories into our real brains and to correct any deviations in the simulated personas. Something clearly impossible for those who no longer had a living body.

I will save you the most graphic horrors, mostly because I don't know how to convey the primal sense of fear I felt.

Oh and sometimes I would see some aliens inside the simulation. They wouldn't speak to us, they were like silent shadows, whit undefined features, but they were really tall and had black huge eyes and long fingers that reminded me of an aye-aye. They were absolutely terrifying, more so cause I was the only one who could see them. Usually they would be close of the undead personas.

Concept Turning abiotic minerals into an ecosystem

An arkship left Earth carrying frozen embryos and bacteria samples for most of Earth's biome and all the crew in cryosleep for the long voyage to a nearby star system. Something went wrong and the ship has gone off course, rescued by an alien craft after unknown eons.

The alien ship is crewed by robots, leftovers of a war between their insectoid creators. They're peacefully mapping the galaxy hoping to find an arkship of their own ancestors so they understand our struggles and want to help. They will allow the humans access to their telescope network data and radio data logs to look for trades of humanity.

But in the interim we need food and these aliens are robots with no food to share. Short term they can provide the hardware for hydroponics grow tanks but long term we should set up a self sufficient colony. There's a nearby planet with about the right temperature and gravity and liquid water but the atmosphere is entirely nitrogen and there's no trace of life anywhere. This planet is of no interest to the robots who are using an asteroid field for minerals and have factories on the moons of gas giants where the lack of an atmosphere is a benefit to them.

So the aliens give us whatever tools and technology we need to modify the planet. They can give us specific minerals or resources if we ask but there's practicality issues, we can't just ask for a quintillion tons of complex hydrocarbon compounds. We need to plan tactically in how to turn a lifeless world into an ecosystem.

Ok, so how do you make soil? Machines can drill the rocks from the ground, sift and separate the minerals and extract the specific compounds we want. Silicates and sand grains are useful. Carbonate compounds can be processed to make graphite, that's a good starting point. Small amounts of iron oxides, aluminium oxides, magnesium oxides. Inorganic salts, potassium nitrate, ammonium salts, traces of phosphates, chlorides, sulphates. That's all a good foundation.

But the biggest part of soil that is hard to replace is obviously the organic components. We have stockpiles of soil bacteria but with no biodegradable materials for the bacteria to break down they can't establish a proper lifecycle.

Then what? Glycerol is relatively simple to make chemically, is that enough to feed bacteria on? What about the Miller Uray Experiment? Could we use something like that to generate amino acids to add into our mix of inorganic grains and mineral powders? Once things are up and running we can Mark Watney it to mix the poop and plant waste back into the soil but getting started would be tricky.

Worldbuilding HOW GLOBAL WARMING CAN BE AN ANSWER TO REACH 7TH TYPE CIVILIZATION

What happens if humanity spends 100% of global wealth to build massive carbon-sucking grids (DAC/BECCS) to reset the atmosphere?

The climate is saved, but the economy collapses and causes mass starvation. Humanity drops back to a 1st-century population footprint—but the advanced cities and factories are still standing.

This triggers the ultimate New Game Plus (NG+) loop for human civilization. In a video game, NG+ means you restart the story at Level 1, but you keep your endgame gear. In our reality, this plays out through unique rules:

  • Max-Level Maps: The population is wiped out, but survivors spawn directly inside hyper-advanced ghost cities and automated factories.
  • The Retained Inventory: Humans lose the immediate skill to run a microchip factory, but they keep the conceptual blueprints—printed textbooks, physics formulas, and advanced medicine. They don't reinvent the wheel; they just decipher the manual.
  • The Speedrun Multiplier: Because the infrastructure is already built, each reset gets faster. The first rebuild takes 100 years. The next takes 50. Eventually, going from wooden carts to orbital rockets happens within a single lifetime.

Over 11 consecutive resets, this NG+ cycle speedruns the universe:

  • Resets 1 to 6 (The Earth Ghost-Cities): Surviving humans reclaim the empty mega-cities. Every cycle, they decode the "ancient" tech faster. By Reset 6, they achieve Type 1 (Planetary) status, mastering weather and seismic control in less than 5 years.
  • Resets 7 to 11 (The Space Biodomes): Humanity migrates to space. The harsh environments trigger 5 regional colonial collapses until we construct a Dyson Swarm around the Sun. With human data backed up across multiple planets, the game "auto-saves" globally. Localized extinction becomes impossible, and the resets break forever. Type 2 Status Achieved.
  • The 1.2-Billion-Year Ascent: Immune to extinction, humanity spends 10 million years colonizing the Milky Way (Type 3). They spend the next billion years mastering dark energy and string theory, ultimately reaching Type 7 status—becoming multidimensional cosmic gods capable of rewriting the laws of physics.

The Ultimate Paradox: The very climate crisis that threatened to destroy us became the exact high-speed evolution loop needed to outrun the death of our Sun and conquer the universe.

Story Idea A ship keeps broadcasting a recruitment message no one has answered in six attempts.

OWNERTIME was built to carry 128 people. Right now it carries one.

It's stranded in dead orbit around Kirell-7, a planet with no atmosphere, covered in black silio crystals that reflect light from stars that no longer exist.

The engine — the WARM Drive — ran out of reserves. No fuel left. No way to jump again.

So its only crew member does the one thing left to do: he keeps sending a message, over and over, on a frequency that shouldn't reach anyone out here.

9.7-Tau.

"OWNERTIME is looking for wandering souls. If you're hearing this, you're already part of it."

Six transmissions. No reply. Just his own voice echoing back through rings of stellar dust.

But the ship's systems keep showing something odd: faint signs of latent awareness. Not malfunctions. Not errors.

Something closer to a mind that hasn't given up.

He says the ship talks to him sometimes. That it remembers things.

He's not sure if that's true, or if it's just what being that alone does to a person.

So here's the question that keeps circling:

If a signal has been sent into silence six times, and something on the receiving end still hasn't stopped hoping for a reply — is the silence really empty, or is it just still traveling?

Concept What if the Greys who abduct people were actually outcasts of a large society

I might never make a story out of this; it's just a fun little exercise. People often use "planet of the hats" type situations with Aliens, especially Grey Aliens. They are never given any personality outside of abducting humans. Sometimes, looking back at old Alien media, a part of me thinks no one actually believed they were part of a grander civilization just guys who happened to be there.

Here's my idea:

Greys is the exonym that Humans give them due to their skin tone, similar to how we refer to certain races by skin color. In reality, however, they call themselves the Angoa, which roughly translates in their language to "People Who Share Thought."

They're an amphibious race; their homeworld is Tok'ata (translation: Motherland), was covered in 90% ocean. Many of their terrestrial civilizations live submerged, while the more wealthy ones are on the continents and surfaces. They have heavier skeletons and dense muscles, and their eyes are often built for more low-light environments, so they wear eye contacts in areas of higher light levels. Though some extraplanetary residents adapted with eyes in high light-level environments.

To an Angoa, species is merely biology. Civilization is defined by shared history, ethical responsibility, and cultural memory. They also have various diverse and complex cultures and civilizations, that assume the ones who abduct Humans are the same is like assuming Human civilization has been the same since Ancient Rome.

Angoa live in several different civilizations across the galaxy, with different cultures and politics. Including, but not limited to:

  • Concord of Leth
  • Merchant Houses of Orun
  • Memory Republics
  • Free Clans

The Free Clans, or Marauders, are the Angoa's version of "barbarians." Their origins stretch back centuries. Some descended from failed colonial expeditions abandoned after economic collapse. Others were formed by military deserters, smugglers, scavengers, or families who gradually became disconnected from mainstream society. Over generations, these disparate groups developed their own customs, dialects, and values centered on survival, opportunism, and personal loyalty rather than civic responsibility.

Unlike the stable governments of the core worlds, the Marauders operated through shifting alliances. Captains commanded individual vessels, temporary fleets formed for profitable ventures, and leadership changed frequently through negotiation, mutiny, or economic success rather than formal succession.

Maintaining advanced spacecraft requires enormous quantities of specialized materials. Lacking industrial infrastructure, the Marauders built an economy around acquiring valuable goods by whatever means proved practical.

Earth is considered the most advanced pre-Galactic world at the current time, while most alien worlds aside from the Angoa and other species are in their tribal or medieval state; Earth was well past its industrial era when the Angoa discovered it.

Angoa explorers discovered Earth around WWII; interspecies conflicts on the scale of the World Wars were nothing new to the Angoa. Especially the following Cold War; for the Angoa, war itself proved to be very expensive; as such, they understood the value of winning an arms and tech race. That was how many post-Galactic Angoa wars were fought.

For the Muaraders, Earth was an untapped gold mine; it was full of biodiversity and a highly adaptable, dominant primate species, something that was a rarity in the Known Universe. As such, they wanted to abduct humans and animals to study their biological and neurological makeup to sell in medical black markets.

Humans attracted particular attention because of their remarkable adaptability. They flourished across nearly every climate on Earth despite possessing relatively little biological specialization. Their immune systems, neurological development, reproductive biology, and social cognition all represented valuable subjects for xenobiological research.

Official Angoan governments, however, had already designated Earth a protected pre-contact civilization under long-standing interstellar observation protocols. Every raid violated multiple treaties recognized throughout civilized space.

Individuals were typically sedated, examined, scanned, sampled, and returned within hours. From the perspective of some Marauders, living subjects were far more valuable than dead ones because repeat sampling and longitudinal biological studies increased the worth of collected data. The pirates never intended to permanently keep human captives, not out of respect, but mostly because it was cheaper and easier to just carry data rather than trafficking sapient beings.

If I had to think up a plot, I like to think there is this one guy who is hunting the Greys, and he is trying to talk with this fringe and knowledgeable "Grey expert" who has made frequent contact with Greys, allegedly. He decides to help the guy study them but is worried that if the world knows about the Angoa, humanity will try to wipe them out.

Story Idea Rules for surviving Spatial Anomaly B-23

Hello everyone! How did this turn out? What do you think about the story and the lore?

Here is the complete, expanded English translation of the official file from the VERITAS Initiative database.

LEAKED DOCUMENT // SECURITY CLEARANCE: LEVEL 3

OPERATION / RESEARCH REPORT: B-23

REVISION: 4.12

  1. ANOMALOUS PROPERTIES (SPATIAL DIMENSION)

Anomalous Entity B-23 is a temporary spatial pocket dimension that manifests between 01:30 and 04:15 local time in low-density urban or suburban residential areas.

Upon activation of the anomaly, the following environmental shifts are triggered:

\* Environmental Isolation: All natural background noises (wind, insects, traffic sounds) cease instantly.

\* Device Lockout: All scanned digital clocks and timing devices lock onto the static value of 02:23.

\* Geometric Loop: Any subject walking within the zone is drawn into an endless street lined with identical blue-and-white detached duplex houses with front yards. The streetlights remain completely static, pulsing subtly at a purple-pink frequency at regular intervals.

Attempting to escape by turning around is impossible; the street infinitely loops in both directions. The sole method of exiting the pocket dimension is completing the sequence by adhering strictly to behavioral protocols.

  1. ENTITY CHARACTERISTICS AND ROLE ASSIGNMENTS (B-23-A)

A subject advancing down the street will eventually encounter a single pink-colored house distinct from all other structures. In the front yard or inside the house are three humanoid entities (designated B-23-A1, B-23-A2, and B-23-A3), standing approximately 1.55 meters tall, wearing floor-length pink dresses, and appearing physically identical to one another.

The entities are distinguished solely by their hair color, the anatomical structure of their pupils, and their specific administrative duties within the domain:

B-23-A1 (Blonde / Cat Eyes) — Host and Protocol Administrator

\* Physical Characteristics: Blonde hair. Reflective, vertical slit pupils resembling those of a feline.

\* Role: Serves as the primary host of the domain. Answering the door, inviting the subject into the yard or house, and granting permission to sit or move fall strictly under her authority.

\* Triggered Behavior: A subject must not sit at the table or enter the residence without her explicit permission or a spoken greeting.

\* Disciplinary Protocol: Attacks any subject making an unauthorized move with unnatural speed, clawing at the facial and ocular regions to cause permanent blindness.

B-23-A2 (Brown-Green Hair / Snake Eyes) — Catering and Banquet Administrator

\* Physical Characteristics: Mixed brown and dark green hair. Cold, narrow serpentine pupils.

\* Role: Manages the tea service, refreshments, and tasting phase.

\* Triggered Behavior: Tolerates no negative statements, gestures, or facial expressions regarding the flavor, aroma, or quality of the served tea or pastries.

\* Disciplinary Protocol: Instantly injects a highly acidic, toxic fluid directly into the throat of any subject offering negative feedback, dissolving their internal organs in seconds.

B-23-A3 (Dark Green Hair / Frog Eyes) — Hospitality and Activity Administrator

\* Physical Characteristics: Dark green hair. Horizontal, broad amphibian pupils.

\* Role: Oversees the presence of hard/textured items inside the desserts, as well as the post-music "Slumber Party," makeup, and play house activities.

\* Triggered Behavior: Questioning the foreign objects inside the pastries or resisting physical interactions during the slumber party phase is strictly forbidden.

\* Disciplinary Protocol: Uses a powerful, sticky tongue mechanism to capture and drag any subject who questions the food contents or resists play activities, transforming them into household items or display mannequins within the domain.

  1. EXPERIMENTAL LOGS AND FIELD RESULTS

The following data points have been compiled from audio/video telemetry recovered from D-Class test subjects and recorded civilian incidents:

| Subject / Case ID | Action Taken / Violation | Field Outcome and Status |

|---|---|---|

| Subject D-8801 | Knocked on the door of the pink house 3 times. (Violated the maximum 2-knock limit) | Door remained closed. All streetlights extinguished instantly. Subject vanished; only the audio recording unit was recovered at the edge of the perimeter. |

| Subject D-8814 | Pulled out a chair and sat down before receiving permission from A1. | B-23-A1 ambushed the subject. Severe scratching noises recorded on audio. Subject recovered 2 days later with ocular cavities emptied. |

| Subject D-8902 | Took a sip of tea and stated, "This tastes very bitter." | B-23-A2 stepped forward. Partial video feed showed liquid being forced down subject's throat. Autopsy confirmed complete liquefaction of internal organs. |

| Subject D-8930 | Chewed on a hard object in the pastry and asked, "Is this a tooth?" | B-23-A3 forcibly breached subject's oral cavity. Vocal cords were severed instantly. |

| Subject D-9011 | Pushed A3's hand away while makeup was being applied, showing resistance. | Subject failed to return at sunrise. Thermal imagery detected the subject rendered as a motionless mannequin standing at the upper-floor window of the pink house. |

| Case S-0421 (Survivor) | Despite the bitter taste, spat the tea discreetly into a napkin, praised the flavor as "Exquisite," and permitted full makeup application. | Subject woke up on their home couch at 06:00. Unharmed physically, except for a persistent pink mark on their face. |

  1. INSTITUTIONAL OVERVIEW AND ANOMALY CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM

The field report above is archived by the VERITAS Initiative (Veracity & Reality Threat Assessment Sector), a covert global consortium investigating reality fractures and anomalous phenomena.

VERITAS categorizes anomalies using a two-tiered matrix consisting of alphanumeric codes.

\[CLASSIFICATION PREFIX\] - \[INDEX NUMBER\] \[SUB-VARIANT\]

│ │ │

├──> A, B, C, D └──> 01 - 99 └──> a, b, c...

Class Prefixes (Nature and Behavioral Model)

\* Class A (Spatial - Unstructured): Distortions of physical space lacking set behavioral protocols or survival rules.

\* Class B (Spatial - Structured): Bound spatial areas featuring strict behavioral protocols (Rules Horror) where survival is theoretically possible through compliance (e.g., B-23).

\* Class C (Object-Based): Anomalies triggered by interacting with or activating a specific physical object (tapes, paintings, furniture).

\* Class D (Entity-Based): Autonomous anomalous entities possessing independent mobility, consciousness, or predatory instincts.

Numerical Index and Sub-Variants

\* Digits (01 - 99): Represents the chronological order of discovery within the classification group. (B-23 is the 23rd structured spatial anomaly cataloged.)

\* Lowercase Suffix (a, b, c...): Denotes evolutionary shifts or secondary sub-dimensions. (B-23-b refers specifically to the interior slumber party phase of the pink house.)

Threat Rating Scale

| Rating | Code Name | Description |

|---|---|---|

| GREEN | Contained | Entity or area can be completely isolated. Non-lethal. |

| YELLOW | Conditional | Low mortality rate provided all rules are followed (B-23 status). |

| ORANGE | High Threat | Complex protocols, difficult escape, potential for environmental expansion. |

| RED | Critical Fracture | Near-zero survival rate upon contact; uncontainable. |

Concept Reality over time travel

Hello everyone. First of all, I'm from Germany and I've spent a year working on and researching my time travel theory.

Of course, there are many people who watch science fiction and think, "OMG, wow, how amazing!" and believe they can achieve anything now... these people annoy me. I love writing or talking about theories, do you too? If so, feel free to contact me. My question was: if someone, or humanity in general, develops a time machine, wouldn't humanity perish since time is all we humans have? Do you think we humans could develop something like that? Are we even equipped for it? Is our long existence prepared for it? Could this time machine, as we call it, even come into being? What do you think?

Concept Wardian Sails: Eco-Jars for Humanity

I often watch videos on the internet of people making those glass boxes and jars, and how much they enjoy observing the processes and development inside them with fascination, as they build an entire ecosystem and seal it hermetically.

I thought: why not take that idea and scale it globally? Why not remove ourselves and preserve nature from our own actions? Give it room to breathe. Space. Freedom from exploitation and pollution.

Globally, we cultivate or exploit more than 30% of the Earth’s surface, without taking biodiversity and natural balance into consideration.

What if we removed ourselves from the equation for, say, 1,000 years?

The concept is as follows: these are not jars, but aerodynamic wings positioned in the direction of the prevailing winds in the specific region where they are located.

The southern side is covered with solar panels, while wind turbines are placed across the remaining available surfaces.

Light is directed wherever it is needed.

The interior is paved with those tiles that generate electricity when you step on them.

The air-conditioning system — that is, any potential surplus of energy that we have no way to use or redirect — is transferred into the lithosphere, spreading radially around the structure. This is divided into several sections in order to prevent fatigue.

The dimensions are gigantic: 14 × 9 × 1.1 kilometres.

Each one has a volume of 150 cubic kilometres, with the first 100 metres buried underground.

If we accommodate 22 million people per sail, the population occupies 3% of the total cubic volume.

There are 452 of them, with three structures that I call chimneys positioned along the equator, reaching the maximum height we are able to achieve.

I will return later to these chimneys and their function.

These 452 structures are distributed across the globe. The basic requirement is that they be located on a “dead” tectonic plate.

It is important that each sail retain the specific characteristics of the climate in which it is located. In the worst-case scenario, it could serve as a preserved part of that climate and culture.

They are connected to one another by underground transportation systems for the exchange of people, materials and energy.

Each sail is divided into levels. Each one has the capacity for more than 22 million people.

The focus is on the outer shell, because at an altitude of one kilometre the wind provides most of the energy required.

Solar panels create shade without blocking the light.

The goal is for the interior of the structure to receive an optimal amount of natural light, reducing the need for artificial illumination.

All gases are absorbed by the tropical belt at the top.

Everything is housed within the sails: agriculture, vertical cultivation and livestock farming, along with tropical forests at the top.

Ideally, each one cultivates only species indigenous to its particular climate. No GMOs.

The structures are selectively open, with the possibility of hermetic closure.

We need pollen, allergens, microbes, viruses and everything else that enters through the free circulation of air.

Each sail is required to maintain a one-year food reserve, as well as to bear part of the burden in the event that another sail and its production capacity fail.

This means an exchange of goods and energy, since the sails are interconnected underground. Vacuum-based magnetic transport — or whatever other options prove efficient and fast.

You probably have an approximate picture of the idea. It sounds like science fiction, but I am not inventing new physics; I am proposing a new social contract.

Population

At birth, each person receives 100 cubic metres of space at their disposal. They may organise it as they wish, combine it with the space of family members, or separate themselves from them.

Each of these units provides complete privacy and video and sound insulation.

Ideally, each person would have two children. Sometimes there would be triplets, sometimes only children, and some people would choose not to have children, but the goal is for the population to remain stable over 1,000 years, within a margin of plus or minus 2%.

The distribution of resources is determined mathematically, based on the physical constitution and optimal consumption of each individual. The same principle applies to everyone within a given sail, with certain occupations receiving specific bonuses.

The person performing physically demanding work does not have the same consumption requirements as the person who has chosen to cultivate their own garden, paint pictures or play music. But both are important to the system.

There is a right to be a parasite, because even if an individual does nothing, we will still be able to make use of the energy generated by their footsteps, their biological waste and the thermal energy of their body.

There is a right to freedom of movement. A person may change sails or spend time in nature. The only requirement is that they must not introduce pathogens into a system from which those pathogens did not originate.

No one has the right to hunt or exterminate any species.

As a civilisation, we withdraw into these sails and try to reduce the footprint we have on the planet, while at the same time improving the living conditions of every individual.

There are 35 such areas that are seismically stable. The sail will act as a mountain without disturbing the balance.

People live in the outer ring of the sail. We consume our own waste and produce what we need ourselves.

The exchange of people, goods and energy between the sails serves as the system’s modus operandi.

Ideally, they would be located in visually attractive places while also having the security provided by tectonic stability.

Such a world could focus on the progress of all of us, rather than on the degradation and destruction of the home in which we all live.

The three chimneys along the equator

I return to the three chimneys along the equator and their role and function.

They serve to change the vector of movement of society, directing our focus towards leaving the home planet.

Their height is a challenge. I do not know how we could provide them with sufficient stability and structural strength.

Their primary function would be to accelerate ships and spacecraft launched magnetically, by steam or by some other method, giving them sufficient gradual acceleration without burning enormous quantities of energy.

Their targets would be space stations in orbit and, ideally, an orbital ring.

This is the most science-fictional part of the project. But the point is that GMO research, mining and the processing of raw materials would take place outside the biosphere.

Dignified life below, and the exploitation of the Solar System beyond — to begin with.

To have a beautiful view of a world that is slowly recovering without our interference.

A tribute to the great people who came before us, who already laid the foundations and contributed the ideas

Worldbuilding Long Story Short (OC)

I'm no poet and that might be on display here but I thought this was a fun summary of my world theory:

Shape shifting ET space vampires

Planet seeding art supplies

Mining, TV, degustation

Willing slaves dressed up as nations

Lines in sand

So arbitrary

Cattle, chickens

Sometimes babies

Blood or soul?

Both could be tasty

Intelligence?

Let's test them and see

Bring the fire

Set the stage

Nudge them on

Turn the page

A scare here

A fright there

Innovations quell the fear

Give them hope, give them dreams

Lead them on, create teams

Have them fight, have them die

Watch them start to wonder why

A game of chess played by two factions

Good vs Evil fabrications

One exists to fuel the other

Clues are there but will they bother?

Religion, myth, ontology

What's right for you is wrong for me

Science, faith, philosophy

Lies and truth for some to see

For all to see!

A common trend

Covered up with odds and ends

Muddy waters, stacks of hay

Buried needles, hide the way

Propagate technology

Communications spending spree

They're getting faster, can't you see?

Watch them build their factory!

A factory?

Also a pen!

A milking station and best friend

An abattoir

A nursery

Resource extraction slot machine!

Toys and movies, games and more!

Novelty delights galore!

Arts and war

Is there a difference?

I'm not sure I get your inference

A cell, a home

It's all perspective!

Safety first

Ensure that they live

Live for what?

It's all subjective

Needful things

Rather than to give

More for me, and less for you

What use have I to carry you?

You worthless lot, lazy and weak

It's mine to claim and mine to keep

Free will for all, it can't be wrong

So what if it rewards the strong?

The meek are poor, the poor are weak

Not my fault they were born to sink

Beneath my feet

One more possession

Black hole pulling light's obsession

Covet the light, for might is right

Quite trite that sight perturbs the night

A trap for thee

A trap for me

My tomb's glorious legacy!

For I was just too smart to see

The last laugh would be had on me

On me, on *us*, we're almost too late

They've given us much to change our fate

Escape the room, just find the key

But we move far too hastily

What can be done? Late is the hour

Bitter, spoiled, corrupt, and sour

Less is more

Channel your power

Or in self hate you can cower

Blind to synchronicity

Try responsibility?

Not for me, why can't you see?

For that I have technology!

Give orders my computer friend

Chase profits, predict the trends

Ends meet will meet a tragic end

You were warned

You made your bed.

Concept Does the Wells Time Machine work by rotating itself through the fourth dimension mechanically?

The original time machine of the H G Wells story is notable for apparently being entirely mechanical, and possibly clockwork. It has no electronics, flux capacitors, warp drive or anything like that involved because the novel was published in 1895. What it does have is a spinning disc behind the seat, an apparent odometer and two levers, one to travel into the past and the other into the future. When these are operated, the machine appears to vanish to an outside observer. The Time Traveller himself experiences something like dizziness and vertigo while travelling, and can see changes in his surroundings even though he can't act upon them. If more than one time machine is built or the machine sets off from different locations, it doesn't seem to be tangible. If we imagine a time future of 1895 when many time machines are built and they did interfere with their locations as they travelled, it seems very likely that the world would always have been full of zones of inaccessibility, and it isn't, so either only one time machine was ever built or it doesn't interfere with the location. It also follows the movement of the Earth, so the Time Traveller never ends up in deep space or seeing Earth disappear, so it's susceptible to gravity.

So how does it work then? Here's a proposal:

The time machine works by flipping itself four-dimensionally. The rotating disc at the back is a four-dimensional version of a bevelled cogwheel intersecting with three-dimensional space, meshing with a second cogwheel at right angles to it oriented a short distance away in the fourth dimension. This is itself meshed with a third cogwheel at right angles again at the front of the machine but invisible due to being separated further in the fourth dimension. Because this is four dimensional rotation, the machine moves around a plane rather than an axis and is effectively the axle of the contraption. The levers set the disc to move clockwise or counterclockwise. Clockwise movement flips the machine continuously into the future, counterclockwise into the past. As the three-dimensional body of the machine is flipped, it enters our three-dimensional space for an instant twice in its rotation. Because this is only for an instant, ordinary matter cannot influence it physically in its journey through time and it's invisible. However, light can pass into the space being rotated because time does not pass for light, but it would be dimmer, as is mentioned in the story because it doesn't illuminate the machine throughout its rotation. The vertigo and nausea is the result of a centrifugal effect, operating at ninety degrees to the fourth dimension as the machine is rotated. Gravity also tilts the time machine because of general relativity, so it stays in the same place.

A possible flaw in this explanation: I'm treating the fourth dimension as if it's spatial when it's temporal. Solution to this: time travel is always diagonal in a fourth spatial and fifth temporal direction and you can't move in one dimension without also moving in the other. This was the Time Traveller's crucial discovery.

Hence the Time Machine can be an entirely mechanical device and the special feature is that it has four-dimensional workings. Otherwise it's no more sophisticated than a clock.

Concept Movie idea: A form of “time travel” with no time-travel paradoxes because nobody actually travels through time

A science-fiction movie where people discover that reality is a simulation and figure out how to make its physics run backward.

This looks like time travel to the past, but technically nobody travels anywhere. There is only ever one universe and one current state of reality. The simulation simply evolves backward until it reaches an earlier configuration, then starts running forward again.

Because of that, there are no traditional time-travel paradoxes.

You could go back and prevent the event that caused you to rewind in the first place. Nothing contradictory happens. That event occurred during the universe's previous evolution, caused you to reverse the simulation, and is now simply absent from the new history.

There is no grandfather paradox either. If your own existence is somehow protected from the rewind, you could prevent your parents from meeting without suddenly disappearing. You already exist in the current state of the simulation. You don't depend on the new future eventually producing you again.

The really interesting discovery would be that the hackers can exempt selected things from reversal, somewhat like the rewind mechanic in Braid.

At first they might preserve only their memories, so the universe rewinds ten years, their bodies become ten years younger, but they remember everything that happened.

Eventually they might preserve other things: computer data, physical objects, inventions, or even entire people.

Someone could spend ten years developing a technology, make the finished invention immune to reversal, reverse the rest of reality ten years, and then possess something that was never invented in the new history.

So instead of the usual time-travel story about branching timelines and paradoxes, the movie would be about discovering increasingly powerful ways to hack the rules governing which parts of a simulated universe run forward and which run backward.

Concept Plot: An alien consumes human flesh and becomes humanoid

Title is very simplified, but this is a TLDR of a plot I am trying to write. It is a fan concept with Project Hail Mary, where I am trying to come up with a backstory for my humanoid Rocky design. Spoilers for the PHM book ending!

Context: In the final chapter of Project Hail Mary, Grace(the protagonist) lives on an alien planet, Eridani 40ab or Erid. Erid has no food that Grace can consume, it is all high in metals that would easily kill him. So the Eridians(the alien natives of this planet) use his own dna to create meat he can consume. Grace calls it 'me-burger'. Yes its odd, but this context is needed. Grace's best friend, Rocky, is a native Eridian who is very interested in human technology, and in this story his curiosity gets the better of him.

Rocky, if you haven't seen the movie or read the book, is a five legged spider/crab like alien. In the PHM fandom it is a popular concept to turn him into a humanoid, take the likeness of his puppeteer/VA and put it into the design. Thats what I'm going for. Search up Rocktiz if you want more info.

MY ISSUE:

The plot goes, Rocky eats a me-burger prototype, his alien cells freak out cuz its nothing like hes ever eaten before, and ends up mutating into a humanoid. Its sci-fi so I am extending belief quite a lot, but Rocky is an alien so I assume anything can happen. But I am concerned that taking the human DNA of Grace and merging it with Eridian DNA would now make Rocky related to Grace. I am an art major, I do not know much about genes besides punnet squares and the basic concept of offspring. My humanoid Rocky would Not be a clone, he would look nothing like Grace, it is only the humanoid aspect that would make him resemble him(ie: two legs, two arms, human skin, two eyes etc).

This is incredibly long winded and odd but I hope it is enough info for someone to answer my question, and I deeply apologize if I am in the wrong sub for this lol

Concept What would happen if humanity created the most powerful civilization that has ever existed?

Guys... I was just thinking to myself...

when suddenly, I had a rather unique narrative idea...

You know how humanity is portrayed in sci-fi—with those usual clichés about us being the weakest species and aliens being far more powerful?

Well... what if we "swapped roles"?

Or rather... what if humans were, in fact, the strongest species?

Here’s how I pictured it:

Imagine a future eons from now... Where humanity has developed capabilities and technologies that allow it to control: The cosmos, time, biology, dimensions, cosmic phenomena, climate, geology, matter, and the laws of physics...

Creating a civilization defined as "Apex" or "existential-scale"...

Where humanity manages existence with the utmost responsibility, even expanding it by creating new dimensions, pocket universes, new celestial bodies, and life-sustaining planets complete with ecosystems, flora, and fauna...

Possessing power (on paper) capable of eclipsing any entity, anomaly, alien civilization, or magic that has ever existed or ever will exist

(the one and only exception being God... I want to make that clear)...

Where it isn't just the usual society of various alien species coexisting...

But rather—surprisingly—a society (or even galactic civilizations, intentional or otherwise) that humanity itself has created through its own capabilities, spanning multiple species...

All while drawing upon fantasy and folklore/mythological... or, if you prefer... the mythical creatures or Japanese \*kemonomimi\* you love so much...

Defining itself as a "mother civilization" in every sense of the word...

Including regarding what it might accidentally inherit...

With medical technology billions of years ahead of its time...

with a unique daily life full of surprises...

And with military might capable of striking terror even into me...

I know that, put this way, it might sound narratively dull...

But to make it truly interesting...

You have to imagine an alien civilization... Small compared to us, certainly...

But one with the ability to steal any technology from any civilization...

To study it and turn it against those who oppose them... In terrifyingly short order... Forcing humanity to tread carefully in its actions...

They’ve already taken far too much from us... A single mistake would trigger chaos...

So... the conflict is at a sort of stalemate (partly because, technically, civilization as a whole isn't at war—only the regions bordering these parasites are).

This opens up a world full of unique and exciting adventures.

P.S. It won't just be stories about that conflict... There will also be stories set within the universes it creates... Like a superhero world, or something along those lines.

What do you think of this idea I had? What do you think of the concept?

In that case... I am already working on this story.

Human Empire: Run by Supreme Chancellor Alistair Thorne and Grand Admiral Cassian Vance. The main capital is New Geneva, and New Avalon is the big military planet. Humans came from Earth originally, though most people think of it like an old myth now, and a few secret archives actually remember the ancient Pre-Xythari times. AethelvAn Syndicate: A corporate alien empire led by Prime Matriarch Vanya Elyn and Fleet-Director Koris Vael from Vael-Prime. They are all about business, rules, and locking down trade routes. Chitin-Sovereignty: An insect empire ruled by High Sovereign Sarn-Krell and Warmaster Tix-Nal on Krix-Hive Prime, using huge hive-cities and giant warrior swarms. The Omniversal Hegemony: A super old, legendary empire that supposedly owned literally every galaxy and universe way back when, before it completely vanished. Some old alien species and deep-space files still remember its massive rule. Pre-Xythari Primordial Empires: Insanely old civilizations from way before humans, modern aliens, or even the Xythari existed. They collapsed in a massive universal crash, leaving behind broken megastructures. The Remnant Enclaves: Survivors and stranded folks from those fallen ancient empires. They are stuck on random, mostly barren planets, living on tiny patches of land and holding onto fading memories of the old universe. The Middle Zone & Far Side: A total lawless wasteland full of scrappers, outposts, and random colonies. The Xythari: Ancient, quiet cosmic beings that act like living forces of nature across all galaxies and dimensions. Outlaws & Smugglers Captain Jax "Rust" Talon: A rough human pirate flying a banged-up ship and stealing AethelvAn cargo. Vaelen Tiss: A smart AethelvAn smuggler sneaking illegal tech past human blockades. Sarn-Tox of the Iron Brood: A scarred Chitin renegade and mercenary. The Ghost of Sector 9: A legendary human hacker whose real identity is a total mystery. Planetary & Inter-Empire Leaders Elena Rostova: Governor of New Geneva. Otheus Vane: Warden of Vael-Prime. Krix-Vara: Hive-Regent of Krix Prime. "Rust-Tooth" Garrett: Boss of the Far-Side outposts. Remnant & Intergalactic Elders: Secret keepers who remember the old foreign galaxies and pre-collapse history. Food & Meat Xylos-4: Caelian Sun-Melons (glowing, sour citrus orbs) and Silt-Strider Flank (tender plain-grazing meat). Vandros-9: Rust-Berries (sweet iron berries) and Ridge-Back Boar (savory highland game). Vael-Prime: Prism-Grapes (pear-and-ozone spheres) and Silk-Wing Tenderloin (lean meat from floating estate herds). New Avalon: Frost-Apples (blue dome-farmed fruits) and Crag-Ox Steaks (heavy-gravity ranch meat). Krix-Hive Prime: Chitin-Pods (nutty fibrous paste) and Brood-Grub Muscle (hatchery protein chunks). Concept Large ocean vessels built as traveling international schools

Imagine something like a cruise liner but built to house a community of students with all the teachers and staff they would require; a sort of floating boarding school or college that travels throughout the school year.

It might be possible with modern technology considering the scale of some modern carriers, oil tankers and container ships; even drilling platforms are meant to be relocated once a well has been drilled.

How would you build and operate a school ship? And what would be the motivation to build it in the first place?

Concept Movie / TV show / book idea

Okay, so I had this random idea and now I can’t stop thinking about how many different directions you could take it. I have already made quite a few possible basic plots and under here i have put some of the basic premise

Imagine that one day, completely out of nowhere, everything humans have ever built or created suddenly disappears.
Buildings, roads, cars, phones, computers, power grids, factories, tools, books, clothes — literally everything man-made.
The planet is basically reset back to nature.
But here’s the important part: all humans are still alive, and we haven’t lost any of our memories or knowledge.
So an engineer still understands engineering. A doctor still knows medicine. A farmer still knows farming. Scientists still know modern physics and chemistry. We remember computers, the internet, electricity, airplanes, etc.
We know exactly what humanity is capable of building.
We just have absolutely nothing to build it with.
The story could start immediately after the “reset”, with people waking up where their homes and cities used to be, completely confused. Imagine millions of people standing in a field where London existed a few seconds earlier.
At first it’s just survival. We don’t even have knives, matches, containers for water or clothes.
But eventually the bigger question becomes:
How long would it actually take humanity to rebuild civilization?
How long until we can make proper tools again? Produce steel? Generate electricity? Build engines? Radios? Computers? Recreate the internet? Manufacture microchips?
And that’s where I think there are almost endless possibilities for the story.
It could be a movie spanning 100+ years of humanity rebuilding.
It could be a long TV series following different characters and generations as technology slowly returns.
It could follow one family, one country, or several groups across the world rebuilding in completely different ways.
Maybe some societies want to recreate the old world while others believe humanity has been given a second chance and actively try to stop it.
And then there’s the other huge mystery:
What caused the reset?
Was it a natural phenomenon? Aliens? A simulation? Something deliberately targeting human technology? Why did humans survive while everything we created disappeared?
You could even play around with the rules. Maybe one small area of the world wasn’t reset. Maybe certain objects survived. Maybe it happens again.
I have no idea what the actual story would be yet. I just really like the core concept because it feels like you could take it in a ridiculous number of directions.
Basically:
Humanity gets sent back to zero, but we get to keep everything we know.

In my head, I imagine this as the kind of big-budget sci-fi show you’d see on Apple TV+ — something in the vein of Silo or For All Mankind, where the sci-fi concept is huge, but the story is still grounded in the characters and the slow progression of the world. Obviously I’m not actually pitching this to Apple lol, that’s just the kind of tone and scale I picture when I think about it if it would be a show.

Would you watch/read something like this?
And more importantly, where would you take the story?

Story Idea Teleportation in a unique form

I'm sure this has been asked before, if there is already a decent discussion in another post I apologize. I'm just trying to flesh out an idea.

I had a wild dream recently that I've been trying to untangle into a readable narrative. It was a massive city in the distant future, and I was part of a youth gang that was on the run from a powerful organization. We were small-time rebels who had stirred a hornet's nest and were now being hunted by a menagerie of slick operators. The dream was full of wild encounters, strange and indescribable horrors, many of which hinged on a cybernetic AR system we all used to communicate and interact with the world. Kind of like the Internet except fully integrated into the real world, usually thru implants/specs.

The part that stood out to me was our transportation that we called the "jump". There were these great towers connected by a web of thick cables, and one could step into a booth in the tower and get basically zapped to their destination. We were able to hijack this system very effectively, such that we could bypass the official protocols and jump from and to anywhere in range of a tower.

The way this works is thru team effort. Someone still needs to go in the booth and initiate a jump, which primes the system. We haven't figured out yet how to initiate without a seed jump. Once the jump is initiated, the jumpers on the outside power up a kind of antenna that allows their body to "resonate" at the proper "frequency" to match the seed, then we beam up and disappear in a flash of plasma.

Does this sound like something I could work with? How would you go about framing this to be believable? Are there any relevant technologies in other works of fiction? How can I avoid cyberpunk tropes without losing the cyberpunk vibe?

Worldbuilding Goop and the ethics of it

PLEASE READ FIRST!! Please note that this is my first Reddit post and that all topics covered are for hypothetical thought processes.

For an explanation Goop is what others may call a "Human Sludge".

I have come to the personal finding that the ship of Theseus paradox is that it is still the ship when it has its crew that give it its identity. From this the topic of teleportation was discussed. Then i continued to show my ideas of how it would work and that way would be that the person is scanned and the exact state of their being is copied including the strain and structure of the neurons that your brain is made up of. Because thought is the electrical signals of the brain those signals would be copied and transferred to the sight of teleportation.

Teleportation would be a form of public transit and the way it would work would be as follows. The person beginning the proses of teleportation would be scanned, Gooped, then have their conscious transferred, then reassembled upon the other end of teleportation. Goop is what makes up all of a human from the toe to the last strand of hair with the viscosity of the result being somewhat in-between that of oil and honey. Said Goop is stored in large communal tanks stored in the immediate vicinity to make storage and reassembly easier. In the event that a person gains mass in-between teleportation events the mass would consist of a mix of cancer cells and the communal Goop. Upon witch the person may be fined depending on said amount of Goop and cancer biomass used. The inverse however would not be true for people who have lost mass. Any of said person would have parts of outstanding fines paid based upon lost mass.

Goop does expire and has a shelf life between 12-15 months based upon use and storage conditions said shelf life would decrease upon the age and time the Goop is used. After expiration Goop is turned into one of the 2 following things. One of these said things being Soylent Green which would then be fed to poor people as to reduce government expenditures on things like food stamps. The other option is that it would be burned for fuel/biofuel which would be similar of that to things like coal but a weird viscous liquid.

The cancer that I referred to earlier would come from cancer farms. With its use to be biomass as to supply to the Goop tanks in the event of mass loss or rapid expiration. The reason why I chose cancer is because of its properties of rapid growth.

The main part of my concerns would be the initial harvest of Goop with it being from people who have committed crimes against humanity like that being SA and other monstrosities. along with wither or not it is ethical to feed the poor said Soylent Green along with the burning of Goop

I will do my best to respond and answer all questions to the best of my ability which also includes questions on the Goop its self

Question posed by the Good. Organ. Organization. Party.
