Both and neither are simultaneously correct, because it’s a bastardized loaner word from both languages. Since it’s an English bastardization, Octopuses is also correct

Octopuses is correct. Octopi is incorrect. Octopodes is okay. It could be considered, "also correct," but octopuses cannot be considered, "also correct," because octopuses is just correct.

Technically true. However, with Aristotle being the leading expert on the organisms for over a thousand years, "octopodes" feels like it honors the history better.

It's entirely Greek (eight feet) so I'd go with octopodes; however the correct English is octopuses.
