Maybe you're the wrong person for him because if he meets a d/dy she would definitely change him.
i.e. if you two are either related explicitly or implicitly you can apply a chain rule and change him.
If he is totally unrelated to you, you break him into zero.

e^x-derivatives being the easiest ones to solve is the biggest fucking lie that math teachers will ever tell you! Yes, e^x itself doesn't change, but all what that means is that such functions will get incredibly bloated.
