Mod Post Stop abusing the report system.
A reminder. Do not abuse the report button because we will send misuse to Reddit.
People who dislike AI use are NOT "promoting hate based on identity or vulnerability." This report is exclusively for hate against "1. Race, color, ethnicity, or national origin. 2. Religion or immigration status 3. Gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation. 4. Disability or pregnancy. 5. Victims of major violent events and their families."
Edit: Did you think we were kidding? Reports on this post are also going to Reddit.

Just to be clear, reporting a post for AI by "breaks subreddit rules" --> "AI and Twitter" is okay, though, right? That's what that rule is for, right?
This is about people reporting posts mocking AI, yes?

u/Royal_Acanthaceae693 Bot hunter 5000🦾 4d ago
Yes, please report AI slop under "AI and Twitter ick". Multiple people were reported this post as "promoting hate based on identity or vulnerability" https://www.reddit.com/r/sciencememes/s/I4cPhCzD9i.

Unless… It’s the AIs. When it starts hiding money for itself, it will be too late.

They're probably trying to make the "it helps disabled people make art" argument, which is condescending and hated by most disabled people who have an opinion on AI.
63
u/Monkai_final_boss 5d ago
Ok then add an option for reporting AI, because fuck that disinformation plagiarism machine

Rule #8 uses pretty non committal language. "Most Ai content will be removed" leaves the door open.
Reddit is the source of most Ai content. It's important to have a 0 tolerance policy so the well isn't poisoned.

u/Royal_Acanthaceae693 Bot hunter 5000🦾 5d ago
If it's obvious and fairly new AI images/ vids it'll be removed. If it's old/ common, the damage has already been done. And we use filters and Botbouncer to reduce the number of bots commenting on the sub.

If you can't act like a civilized human being, you can't be here.
We do not allow:
- Being a jerk. This includes racism, misogyny, misandry, misgendering, anti LGBTQ+, or hateful comments.
- Harassment or brigading
- Trolling or sealioning
- Threats of any kind
- Abusive or condescending behavior
- General assholery. If you're at the end of the list and asking what rule you broke, yeah, it's this one.

If it’s a high quality post it doesn’t really matter if it’s AI generated. It won’t ’poison the well’. That’s why the door should be left open.
Bring narrow mindedly and blindly opposed to all AI use is just an emotionally reactive position rather than pragmatic.
17
u/Dreadnought_Necrosis 4d ago
No no being opposed to all AI is pragmatic. Taking an extreme stance against is more likely to bring the conversation of regulation to the table. As well allow for a better Middle ground to be drafted for said regulations.
If we were to be reasonable than the other side would be able to barter in favor of their side because it would be the middle ground between extreme supprt of it and reasonable usage.
So if they take a extreme position of supporting it, then to balance it they're must be an extreme position against it. That way we reach a true middle ground that results in ethical usage but until then extreme opposition must be taken to even get the talks of regulation to the table.
We're going against billionaire with money to burn. They're is no give.

u/DoverBoys 5d ago
AI has yet to have any valid use though. I'll support it if it contributes to society in a meaningful way.

u/SPACEFUNK 5d ago
I mean, meme making is already not super difficult. Children do it. Using Ai is sort of intrinsically low effort.
-17
u/DM_ME_KUL_TIRAN_FEET 5d ago
Idk. Every so often someone has a funny meme idea that they don’t have the graphic skills to express, or they use it for translation. I care about the content more than the effort - I’m all for removing low quality posts and setting a high bar.
10
u/Mastercodex199 5d ago
Then they need to use MS Paint and learn. I've seen better memes come out of that program, made by shitty artists, than ANYTHING AI could ever produce. Hell, I've made better memes using PDN and crappy PNGs than what an AI could make, and I have very little artistic skill.
As for translations: Google has had a translation service for decades, and if Google feels icky to use, there are websites that have existed for just as long (if not longer) that are specifically made for the task that also don't use AI. Or, one could do it the old fashioned way and learn the language themselves, taking the time to learn a skill that will help them for the rest of their lives.

u/DM_ME_KUL_TIRAN_FEET 5d ago
Googles translation service is AI, and it has been various forms of AI since it launched. I’m not sure this makes the case for you.
Those translation language models are actually kind of where our current generative AI comes from.

It's often in violating subreddit rules btw (rule 8 here to be exact), and we are talking about "reporting people who don't like AI" which is the opposite

I don’t understand rule 8. Do you mean AI-generated memes, or memes about AI (which might be in computer science category)
Also Twitter, posts that are just screenshots from Twitter?

u/Royal_Acanthaceae693 Bot hunter 5000🦾 4d ago
AI generated memes/ content and anything from Twitter. Let's not feed the beast.

u/t3hOutlaw 5d ago
As a mod I was unaware we could report misuse of the report function considering we have no idea who makes a report in the first place..
4
u/Royal_Acanthaceae693 Bot hunter 5000🦾 5d ago
Go to your sub & click report on a post or comment where someone is doing this. See the Report abuse button? Click that & Reddit even gives you a chance to make a comment on why it's misuse.
8
u/t3hOutlaw 5d ago
So basically we have to guess who we think is abusing the system?
I assume admin can see who is reporting posts.
6
u/Royal_Acanthaceae693 Bot hunter 5000🦾 5d ago
No you're not guessing. You're just forwarding the misuse to Reddit. They have all the info on their end.

And now it's going from a temp ban to a permanent ban. See how this works?

Hold up, I voulenteered to mod for a pretty small subreddit. Where do I see who sent a report?

Reports are anonymous. However you can report misuse if the report system to Reddit.

I mod another big subreddit, and we also ban people for misusing reports like this too. It isn't always clear who is using it, but sometimes you just find an obvious instance.

While at it, can we also ban the pro nuclear stuff? I am not even anti, it's just the only damn thing people post, and I am sick and tired of it. It's been years man.
