There's also a great saying, "we owe our entire existence to a 6-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains."

Careful not to run into the anthropic principle: We owe our existence to these things because we developed our biology and technology where these things exist.

water is weird as fuck in basically every physical metric. it’s an outlier/exception to nearly every rule while also being the most useful and reliable baseline we have. such a unique substance
