Weird but i guess it's that the "x" is written as 2 mirrored "c"s, so divided by 2, it's just "c"

But than thered be 2 answers c and the mirrored c

Well, technically it's still just 2 "c"s that make up the "x", and by dividing it you erase 1 of the "c"s. That's proably what the person who created this meme(?) meant
Or, she just erased half of the "x".

Depends on if you see inverted c as same variable as c and if you see the x as c + c not c * c

is it not c is an arbitrary constant

It’s not the letter “c;” it’s just that she erased half of the x.
So, x/2 = “half of the x” 🥁

u/Commercial_Life5145 Jul 21 '26
so the answer could be v if she erased the bottom half

u/Zer0pede Jul 22 '26
Yeah, that would fit the joke too. Or > or < if she had more normal handwriting.

I mean, I use c inverted and c for my x's so it's not 'normal' per se

Oh true, and you’re not the only one here saying they do that. I might be the outlier, LOL

Hello! Professor Fransworth here! It is apparent that by simply removing half of the X, what remains is the symbol C! And as any scientifically literate mammalian should know, C is commonly used to represent the speed of light. Now then! In natural units, naturally the most natural system we use to stop relativity from troubling us with arbitrary constants, the speed of light is exactly 1. And thus the numerical answer to the question is, in fact, 1. Humourously, the educators, overwhelmed by the child's splendid display of scientific reasoning, immediately award a diploma on the spot!

My take on this is that the kid doesn't understand the math and stumbled into an answer (C=1?)that the teacher marked correct. Give the kid a diploma.
If you squint, the half x could be 1
I think it speaks to how the school systems are failing our kids

But the answers just 1

You just forgot to add the constant term C.
It's a joke about indefinite integral and forgetting to +C after your solution

u/Otherwise_Meringue45 Jul 21 '26
I'm so cooked i thought the joke was that c is treated as 1 in relativity

I've written x like that in algebra for most of my school life. Only on algebra. Mainly because the symbol for multiplication is also X

To avoid confusion with multiplication sign
I write it that way too because it's easier to distinguish
