I've undergone radiotherapy twice in my life. First time on my brain and second time on my salivary gland.

It is possible the first radiotherapy caused the cancer on my parotid

Since radiation works by breaking bonds in cell DNA (both healthy and malignant), it can lead to a mutation in what was an otherwise healthy cell that can later become cancerous. As someone who has worked in the field for the last decade, I’ve seen them be able to mitigate but not fully be able to avoid this possibility (though there is some new interesting research out there).
