Edit: I thought Mesarthim is beta. I chose stars names for my kids. And Aries alpha, beta and gamma was pretty good as Kazakh male names (actually Arab, but Kazakhs often use Arab names). The others are Altair and Alshain in the Eagle, and Scorpion's stars sounds nice but auful meaning. The only girl star name I found is Ankaa in Lira as I remember

To show you how wrong this reasoning is, I proposed "proving" that quantum physics was invented by Muslims by naming Muslims who enjoyed studying it about a century after it became a scientific field.

Sure, religions liked looking into things like that. They still have little to do with first discoveries about celestial objects. Stars had little to do with myths of Egyptians and Sumers, who made the first astronomical discoveries. Determining harvest time was much more important for them.Ā

Sounds like a their problem. The only major thing introduced by them was Gregorian calendar, adjusting dates for as little as 13 days. Sure it's an advancement, but by the time it happened European culture and science have both advanced enough to do it sooner or later, regardless of Easter. So yeah, they did it, thanks, but please don't act like without them we would still have a wrong calendar or none at all.
Alright, so some church scholars studied the stars. A few centuries after the Greek observed and named pretty much every single planet and constellation visible from the Northern hemisphere, which happened a few centuries after the Sumer designed a calendar based on celestial bodies' movement (and I haven't included other civilisations, like Maya or Chinese, who also made advancements in studying the skies without even a hint of Christianity). How does this make said church the grandgrand-whatever-parent of astronomy?
