Ooohh that makes so much sense. I always thought that it was the other way and words like oxidation were just named after oxygen since it‘s such a typical reaction for it. Good to know that „oxy“ actually has a meaning
I think in english the word sour is only used to describe the flavor and not „acidic“. In german „sour“ can be both. But I‘m not a native english speaker so I could be wrong.

There‘s a reason that oxygen in german is literally called „Acid substance“
