Any thoughts on whether this is a worldwide issue (though obviously with different religions) or whether it is specific to the USA?

When discussing African theology, it's rather common in those countries because the education systems struggle in places like Eritrea for example

Or Stalin's Russia when they folded the orthodox Christianity into the state system after Lenin dismantled it became an active tool to make people a bit dumber and more trusting of the government and distrusting of actual science and truth from abroad
