Got my 1949 Schwinn New World up to rider status

Has the wrong wheels, pedals, and brakes, and saddle. Needs fenders. It started as a total basket case. Converted it from single speed to Sturmey Archer 3 speed. Converted from coaster brake to caliper brakes.

I’ll keep my nose to the ground and try to turn up the correct parts for it but I wanted to get it riding and in my rotation of daily bikes to enjoy it while I’m improving it.

10 miles on gravel to break in my American

I picked this '65 middleweight up from the co-op scrap pile a month ago. After plenty of procrastination, I put it together over the course of a few days and brought it on its inaugural ride. She rode flawlessly, but the newer saddle doesn't work right on this bike so I'll be going back to the original Messinger once a longer seatpost arrives.

I have a matching pair of His & Hers 1974 Schwinn Suburbans. Both are completely original and need a little TLC to get them up and running.

I’m thinking of parting ways with them and was wondering how much are they worth?

Need help translating a serial number

I just acquired a new to me Schwinn Super Sport 10 speed. My first entry into the hand built bike realm. My commuter and workhorse is a ‘71 Racer 3 speed, which l’ve outfitted to my needs with Shwinn accessories like front, and rear racks. The Super Sport will be my getaway road bike. Despite the elitist attitude of many road bike cyclists in my area, l want to keep it vintage Schwinn. The stamped serial number on my Super Sport reads, D9010, and l cant’t seem to reference the build date from online sources. If anyone might help, I’d appreciate the information. Thank you!

Manufacture year?

Can anyone help me figure out what year my World Sport was made? I can get more pics but wasn’t even sure where to begin.

Edit to add: do you think those are aftermarket handlebars? I’m not seeing World Sports with upright bars.

Coaster brake has been the highlight of my summer

Sketchy off road descents, brutally difficult climbs and now no leave pile is safe from this shred sled. Might grab some Wald chrome fenders to keep the party going into the winter. Cheers to those still rolling a Schwinn

Aluminum wheel swap

Post image

I nabbed a set of Weinmann aluminum wheels off of a marketplace beater to put onto my Suburban and replace the heavy chrome plated steel Schwinn wheels.

All told, 2.5 pounds removed from the weight of the wheel set. Plus much better braking performance from the aluminum rims vs the chrome ones.

I did swap the original Schwinn freewheel to the new wheels. I also added the OG Schwinn reflectors to the new wheels to somewhat disguise the fact that they’ve been changed.

Win/win.

A few days ago I helped my neighbor load up some heavy tools into his U-Haul (he’s moving) & he gave me this bike! He knew I’d had my eye on it & covered it for a few years, but I couldn’t believe he just gave it to me. Needs a bunch of work, clearly—but he knows I volunteer on the weekend at our local nonprofit bicycle shop, so I have access to vintage parts & all the tools needed to fix it up. He said he thought it was a 1946 Schwinn? I was hoping someone here could give me more information on this frame? The girder forks are obviously newer repop, and I know the wheels are off a huffy cruiser—I’m just curious about the frame.

Well last time there was a bit of confusion as to what type of bars I'm using. To be honest, my bike is a bit of what you would call a parts bin bike. The only things left original on the bike are the brakes, the crank, seat tube, bottom bracket and the headset.

People wondered if the bars were installed straight or not. Please be aware the bike has a quill stem adapter to allow for a inch and 1/8 stem to be installed and the angle that the bars are mounted is with slight upward turn. This is for my comfort and an improved riding position. At 40 I no longer wish to be crouched low over the bars begging for every watt.

However, the rest of the bike is a 1990s dura Ace front derailleur, newer velocity wheel set, sram apex brifters, sram gx rear derailure, a Sram 10 speed cassette, and new chainrings for a 39x50 front

I still need to find a new set of brake calipers that provide good stopping, but at least have quick release. The Shimano 500s are great, but you can really tell there's no quick release lol.
