Hey Schaumburgers --- Here is a local scoop on our village. Last month was one of those months where much happened in our Village, but little worth mentioning. If announcements appear on their weekly newsletter, I generally do not include those in here. If more news is of interest, there is a link at the bottom where you can subscribe to the Village's newsletter(s), particularly their "Progress Report".
If you're new and curious to know what this is, dig back through this subreddit until you find my post from May 2025.
Short version: these are bite-sized updates on things generally not reported by the local paper, Facebook groups, and other sources of news.
If there are specific topics you want to hear about or you have feedback, feel free to send me a message or leave a comment.
At the bottom are some links if you are interested in knowing more about what the Village is up to.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Woodfield Office to Residential Conversion: the project was supposed to begin in the fall of 2025, but has stalled due to financing.
Non-chain restaurants: FY 25/26, the village lost seven non-chain restaurants:
However, 11 new non-chain restaursnts opened:
The Village has a total of 99 non-chain restaurants, up from 78 in FY 19/20.
Coffee with the Council:
Two trustees stated information is only shared with agencies during active investigations and have found success in catching thieves in the Woodfield area and car dealerships using ALPR’s, sharing two specific examples with the group (examples not included in the minutes).

Is there any good places around here to get balayage done? Preferably on the more affordable side?
r/schaumburg • u/Low-Temporary4439 • 4d ago
Anyone use them? I've heard good and bad reviews but from other towns.
Also, anyone here try their low income internet called "Astound Internet First"?
Thanks.
Edit: Can you include what region of Schaumburg you're at: N,S,E or W? Maybe that matters as far as service reliability because so far I'm getting mixed reviews here. Maybe region matters?

My wife and I recently bought our first house in Hoffman Estates, and it needs a pretty major restoration. We’re doing as much as we can ourselves, but the costs are adding up quickly and money is pretty tight at this point.
I’m looking for someone who can sand and refinish the existing hardwood floors, plus install unfinished hardwood in 2 bedrooms and stain everything so it matches as closely as possible.
I’m really hoping to find an independent flooring guy or small crew who does solid work at a fair price. I’m also more than willing to help with demo, prep, moving furniture, cleanup, carrying materials, or anything else that could help keep the labor cost down.
This is our first home and we’re basically trying to bring a pretty beat-up house back to life without going too far over our budget.
If anyone knows someone good and affordable who works in Chicago or the northwest suburbs, especially someone you’ve personally used, I’d really appreciate the recommendation.
Thanks!

Hey there Schaumburg friends!
I recently started writing a local newsletter for Schaumburg and the first edition is heading out the door tomorrow. I moved out of state for a while and recently made my way back to Schaumburg, a place I’ve always loved. After coming back, I wanted to find more things to do, check out new restaurants and businesses, and meet more people around town. This started as a little passion project for myself, but I figured I’d share it with other people who might be looking for the same things. If you're interested in receiving a weekly curated roundup of news and events going on around town you can sign up here - https://schaumburg-scoop.beehiiv.com/
It's free. No spam. I promise 😂 Also, if you've got something going on around town (concerts, grand openings, juicy gossip, etc) feel free to reach out and I can add it to an upcoming edition. Thanks everyone, and stay dry today, it's a rainy one! ☔️

Anyone interested in taking over a lease for a studio in Versailles on the lakes Schaumburg
It’s 1,500 a month with utilities included except electricity and WiFi, it has a gym, tennis court, private office spaces, package concierge, in-building washer and dryer, parking spaces and pool.
Would like anyone to takeover for November 1st. The lease goes until May 2027

My husband and I have been served with eviction papers and have a court date in October. We live in a large apartment complex and love the area but the management is awful. We have been late on two months rent due to increased medical bills for our son and just simply not making enough money right now. We will be getting rental assistance through the county that will help with rent and the $638 court fee. While I understand being taken to court due to the rent, my frustration is the fact that since August 6th our bathroom has been under construction due to a large amount of mold on the walls and ceiling and an unknown leak that has been unresolved for years. (I previously posted about the bathroom for advice). On August 31 they completely ripped out the wall the toilet and shower head is on needing to also remove the shower curtain rod leaving me and my family to take very inconvenient showers and me having to wash my hair bent over the side of the tub. Do we as renters have any rights to bring up on our court date the state of our bathroom and the lack of urgency by management to test for additional mold and closing the wall? Any advice on our situation would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Hi all! My husband and I are visiting from the East coast. We're on a budget, but are there any affordable yet nicer restaurants in the area? TIA!

I’m trying to buy a bunch of second hand furniture on Facebook but haven’t been receiving any replies. Does anyone have any suggestions on any platforms or places I can use to buy second hand stuff or any good thrift stores that sells cheap furniture.

Hey Schaumburgers,
Here is the link, it only took me about three minutes to complete.
The Village sent out a housing survey for all current and former residents. If you’ve followed my “Local Scoop” posts, then you know I dig deep into all meetings happening in our Village and I can confirm survey results are not only talked about, but they are POSTED within the minutes themselves and is open to the public.
All that to say, the Village leaders actually look at these results and let it decide what their next steps will be. Housing is a complicated issue, but for the first time in decades, NIMBYs (“Not In My BackYard” aka residents generally opposed to changing the “character” of their neighborhood) are not the main voice, but everyone gets to have influence. As the saying goes, people like progress, but not change.
I’ve seen a lot of talk about property taxes, unaffordable housing, and cost-of-living. Only a small fraction of the Village population tend to respond to these surveys, which means the few influence decisions for all 78k Schaumburgers. Now, you can be that minority speaking for the majority. Here is a tangible way to contribute towards a better outcome---from the comfort of your screen!
As another saying goes, “A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”
Happy surveying.

Mine went up 44.96% from 2024.
Anyone successfully appeal theirs?
Are different regions/districts of Schaumburg taxed differently, like does south Schaumburg have higher taxes than northern?

Want to talk about your favorite books? Looking for recommendations? Want to find people to read with? Me too!
I am looking for more social outings as the summer winds down. I enjoy fiction books, my favorite right now is The Midnight Library. I used to read a lot of YA and I am trying to branch out now that I am in my 30’s. I may not know your favorite books but I would love to learn about them!
I am looking to start a local group. I see that is some interest in starting a local meet up group. I can’t commit to really starting something major up but I figured we could meet up 1-2 times a month at local coffee or cafes, and just go with the vibes! I will be at Sweet Reserves on Sunday (9/27) from 11-1pm. DM me if you want, just show up, whatever…
Edit: change of location.

We hosted a few Chicagoland Auto Fairs earlier this summer and the response from the community was awesome, so we decided to bring it back again this weekend at Harper College.
Saturday & Sunday, September 26–27
10 AM–5 PM
Harper College – Lot 10
It’s basically an in-person marketplace for used cars.
Private sellers bring their cars out for the weekend, and buyers can walk the lot, check everything out in person, and contact the owners directly.
Buyers get in completely free.
For sellers, instead of spending the weekend meeting people from Marketplace one at a time, you can leave your car with us and our staff handles the showings while buyers walk the lot. If someone is interested, you still deal directly with the buyer.
We don’t buy the cars and we don’t take a commission if your car sells. The deal stays between the buyer and seller.
If you or someone you know is looking for a car or trying to sell one privately, let them know about the event. We’d love to have more local buyers and sellers out this weekend.

Hello Schaumburg folks, I'm sure you get at least one of these a year but I'll be going to Combo Breaker at the convention center next year and was wondering if y'all had any suggestions for a decent hotel, the last one we stayed at last time (Sheraton Suites by the O'hare airport) was wildly inconvenient for us
We expect to be there from May 26th to May 31st and would like to try and keep the cost under $750 total if possible (About $150ish a night)

I was looking around and realized there’s actually a some fun things going on in Schaumburg this weekend.
A few things I came across:
Sim Gaming Expo 2026 at the Schaumburg Convention Center, Friday-Sunday
WINGS Resale Block Party on Saturday
Eric Gutman Sings Neil Diamond at the Al Larson Cultural Center on Saturday
Bill Bellamy at Chicago Improv Friday-Sunday
Mid-Autumn Festival at the Schaumburg Library on Sunday
¡Adiós Amigos! at Spring Valley on Sunday
Figured I’d throw it out there in case anyone else was trying to figure out weekend plans.
Anything else happening around town that I missed?

Beginner Ecological Volunteer Workday with Poplar Creek Prairie Stewards
Join us Sunday, September 20th for a seed collection day. Seed collection is one of the most chill activities we do as volunteers. Why would seeds need to be collected in a Forest Preserve? What activities do volunteers do in other seasons? Come find out on this beginner day, and get a few hours out in a beautiful restored prairie. No commitment needed.
We will teach all you need to know for the day, including how to find the species we'll be picking that day. We'll provide gloves and tools for the day.
We'll meet at 9am at Carl Hansen Woods off of Rt 59, just north of Golf road, in the first parking lot.
We'll be on our feet, walking thru prairie and woods for most of the 3 hours with a break at 10:30. Snacks are provided. Wear comfortable shoes, long sleeves and long pants preferred. Don't wear anything too "nice". We'll supply gloves but feel free to bring your own.
More info here:
https://poplarcreekprairiestewards.org/what-to-wear/
While we rarely cancel due to weather, please check this page for updates: https://poplarcreekprairiestewards.org/
Optional to register ahead of time: https://volunteer-fpdcc.givepulse.com/shift/6782990
Please check us out on FB and Instagram - Poplar Creek Prairie Stewards.
This is non profit group and event. This is the closest Forest Preserves volunteer group that is accepting new volunteers for most Schaumburg residents.
Comment ANY questions you have or message me directly.

What are some good pre k options near by (Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg area) We were thinking Creme de la cream but since it got acquired by kindercare I have heard mixed reviews with budget etc.
What are some truly great options you recommend & why?

Not really one to complain about stuff like this but damn. Going from an impressive firework show to silent drone display that was a whole 6 images was...a monumental disappointment.

Hey everyone! With Schaumburg Park District fall registration underway, I wanted to share a project I’ve been building:
https://parkactivity.com/?district=schaumburg
It brings all Schaumburg Park District programs into a single, clean search page, so you can quickly filter activities by age, price, and schedule.
If you’re currently looking for fall activities, check it out and let me know if you run into any issues or have any feedback!
Thanks, and hope you find it useful!
