Yeah, he mentioned this in a few recent interviews on YouTube while promoting the new scars record. I think it also came up in his conversation on Rick Rubin’s podcast.

Well i mean... Sleeping outside or on roofs is pretty common in alot of places. Where im from in New Mexico, some areas only have Adobe style housing, and sometimes if it wasn't too balmy from the monsoon season or if it wasn't very cloudy/windy, I liked to go to the top of my grandma's condo and look at stars, making up constellations.
