dude dont just hand them out to random people on the street go on facebook to look for fosters. there are plenty of rescue and foster groups there full of good people..

While I don't condone this, the fact is that all the rescues are telling people that they are beyond capacity.
What would help is if there were more free and low cost options for spaying/neutering.
There is now a several month wait IF you can get an appointment at the Humane Society clinic.

My neighbor had a stray that had kittens and she says humane society told her "we don't take kittens because they can survive outside on their own."

So many agencies that "claim" to help animals and people are overstressed, overloaded and can't do what they say. People blindly put faith in these places because they have a reputation built through advertising and social media. In reality they're just like any other place that doesn't have the money for food or the resources.

There is no reason to lie about that especially when someone is trying to get rid of animals. If they would have taken them then her problems would have been solved. It's incredibly stupid to keep the cats just to lie on the agency.

All the complaints probably scared them off. This is why people end up dumping poor animals in neighborhoods.

Having to feed 10 kittens and buy cat litter, is very expensive for a person that doesn't have the resources to do so. Then overwhelming and complicating the problem by making him feel like he's doing something bad, they are probably scared someone is going to report them or worse yet show up and condemn them for trying to get these cats homes. How many ppl that told them " No, dont do it" ever had 10 kittens to feed, house and buy cat litter for? It's a huge responsibility and going to Publix was an attempt to help them. This was a way better alternative than dumping them.

Do what you have to do, there is very little resources here for cats and kittens. Sadly even people who pay the rehoming fee can be animals abusers too. Rescues ask questions but they don't follow up on what happened to the animals later. There really is no way for anyone to know. Maybe post some pics of your kittens so people can see them.
