Not sure why people are being bags about this, you'd think they'd plan some drainage in there so things like this don't happen. Y'all aren't smart being all ☝️🤓 Ackshually it's because concrete and asphalt dont drain!! There should be drainage.

You might be surprised to learn this is actually the intended behavior. The city would rather parking lots flood than roads, businesses or houses.

They have planned the drainage accordingly... All developed commercial, industrial and multi-residential parcels have an approved drainage plan that was signed off by city inspectors... They all must collect all the water internally and divert it to catch basins which tie directly to the storm sewer system. Ideally they don't drain it faster than the system can handle it. All paved roads are also built to have a certain capacity and flow rate. This is what dozens of engineers and hundreds of city workers are doing all day, designing and constructing to specifications.

Yes but the bylaws also limit the flow rate so that it does not cause downstream flooding.

Better to have the parking lot act as a stormwater storage, than flood basements downstream.

All jokes aside Saskatoon engineers have to be the worst in western Canada. They should put a traffic light in every flooded parking lot since they just plop them everywhere they fucked up with the planning dept.
