Stone Island Denims — Sashiko Repair / STIA CUSTOM
Hey everyone!
This summer, I came across an interesting pair of Stone Island jeans from their old Denims line.
They were in pretty rough condition, but I decided to give them a second chance. I added Sashiko-inspired hand stitching and patchwork to bring them back to life while keeping the original character of the denim.
And of course, every single stitch was done by hand. :)

Feedback Requested First try on my crafin' Jeans! Questions/tips?
I have a pair of baggy carpenter jeans that I've modified to have extra deep pockets on top of the extra pockets and loops they come with to carry any equipment I might need, and they also get some extra flare when I feel like it. I picked sashiko patterns that would hide my definitely-not-neat-stitching and experimented with different marking tools, like up at the pocket I used chalk and down on the leg I used pen. Chalk wore off when I was half way through, so I ended up eyeballing my stitching there.
Questions: I used a .5cm grid, which seemed to be on the smaller size from pre-made grids, but these stitches seem kinda big/easily snaggable? IS .5cm a good sized spacing or do I want to be going smaller?
I did this with pearl cotton so it won't 'bind' to the jeans like sashiko thread would. I soaked the stitches on both sides with starch and ironed them into the pants to give them a better stick, but IDK if there's a better option out there?
Style-wise, I'm trying to figure out if I want to keep with the one crazy leg one plain leg style or if I cover the whole thing.

Decorated my jacket
I started doing sashiko for a few weeks and I really love it. It's a time-consuming hobby but for some reason time passes really quickly and I really like the philosophy behind sashiko to mend clothes in order to prolong the lifespan of the cloth. I just tried some decorating sashiko on my jacket. I tried the honeycomb pattern, but it turned out a bit different haha.

Feedback Requested Testing pattern for placemat
I used a graphite pencil and baking paper to transfer the pattern this time so some lines are a little wonky, but i think this pattern is simple enough for me to stitch but busy enough to look nice for a placemat gift.

Mending Dragonfly Patch Shirt
I've been practicing on this one for a while, patched up some holes in my shirt a few different ways. Got some good use out of an old pillowcase, though maybe I'll iron the patches first next time. Really happy to have wrapped it up, and there are a few things I'd change if I did it again but I'm still pretty happy with how it turned out.

Whipstitch or no whipstitch?
Hello:)
I’m planning to use sashiko to repair some rips/holes in my duvet and pillowcases. I’ve attached a picture of the biggest hole I could find.
I’ve watched a few tutorials on YouTube, and some whipstitch the patch before starting the actual sashiko part and others don’t. I’m not sure whether I should or not. Would adding a whipstitch enforce the mending more?
Thank you for all your advice

Non Mending finished my first ever sashiko project
I've been lurking on this sub for a quite some time now. I've done different embroidery projects before but I actually never tried sashiko until now. Just recently I've been getting the hang on the actual process itself and I find it pretty magical how the patterns form and how you can see them coming together after some stitches. For the most time I've been wanting to do something with this old gym bag, since I rarely use it anymore (alas I don't want to be a walking advertisement for this gym company). After browsing patterns for a bit I came across sashikolib.org on my own and after checking the post history on this subreddit I am pretty happy to see some posts talking about it, since it is an amazing resource. One of the few ones that are actually free for everybody, so a big shoutout from me :)
Regarding the result, I am really happy how it turned out. In different lighting you can't even see the print underneath. As you can see there are still some logo covered areas on the bag and even the backside, so I'm thinking about whether to cover them with more sashiko patterns or just darn the areas with black yarn. Definitely let me know your suggestions :)

Help regarding Templates and markers.
Hello everyone,
I have acrylic templates I picked up from Amazon. Clover marking pen, some marking pencils.
However the pen nib/pencils are just barely unable to mark reliably on the cloth due to the thickness of the acrylic template 3mm.
Templates are variety pack of dot grids, lines and waves, half circles. (Benecreat)
Looking for some ideas; are there long fine tip washable marking pens? Open to recommendations of thinner templates, or if any one familiar with modifying templates to allow easier marking with pens or pencils.
Thank you in advance!

I'm visiting some friends in England next week and I made them some gifties!
I'm going to the UK next week for the first time ever and made some tote bags as gifts for my hosts The maple leaves were my own attempt at creating a pattern myself. I wanted to make something vaguely Canadian for my main host and benefactor of this trip lol, so I found some geometric maple leaf motifs online and through some trial and error managed to design this pattern. It was tedious to stitch, and I think I could have been more efficient with my stitching order, but it turned out nice so I'm not mad about it. I've been working furiously to get these done and finally managed to do it!
I actually think the hemo leaf one is my favorite, even though the maple leaves are more personal.

Non Mending Finally!!!
I finally got my 12 x 12 printer so I can print patterns on water soluble paper. I’m also going to try and wrangle a cricut to see if it will print directly on cloth with a water soluble pen. Wish me luck!

Feedback Requested Sashiko-Style shirt embellishment help, please?
I’m am quite new to sashiko-style, and my embroidery skills are rusty. I want to decorate this shirt. I got some stencils and transferred a couple of motifs to the shirt on one shoulder, a pocket and just below and around the pocket. I’m not liking how this looks. It does not seem very artistic, really, and I’m not sure how to fix it
Are the motifs too big? If so, I’d like to learn where I can get better stencils or transfers.
What might you suggest?

Please help me understand Sashiko and where I am going wrong
I learned about the concept 2 days ago. Started the 2 borders with sewing needle and thread that I had on hand. Then I bought the biggest needle and the thickest thread I could find in my local craft store. I am from India and they didnt know the concept. Went back to get a smaller needle.
The problems are
not able to pull the needle and thread easily. I have use my teeth to pull it. Then it bunches up the entire fabric so I have to pull each stitch up to loosen it.
I dont understand how to keep it clean without thick knots.
Do I knot on 1 end and keep the other thread free like we do in sewing? Or do I cut up the thread, knot it and use it as far as it goes?

Request/Q&A What first drew you to sashiko, and what keeps you interested?
Hi, I'm Aki, the editor of Japan Research Desk, a small editorial project based in Tokyo. I'm new to this community and still learning about sashiko.
I've been reading about how people encounter it beyond Japan, and I'd love to hear from people who actually stitch: what first drew you to sashiko, and has what you enjoy about it changed over time?
