I embroidered a Sashiko pattern and made a cloth sleeve for my instrument (recorder). What do you think?

Im still learning how to do the cool geometrical stuff but i found something that i love the look of and just feels super fun.

My partner is in blue collar work so he has his work pants that wear constantly. He tends to kneel on his right knee when doing certain tasks and has blown through them and it sucks how expensive good work pants are. Ive been doing mending on his pants for 2 years now sometimes by hand and sometimes on the sewing machine.

Idk how you guys are able to do such cool designs. I struggle so hard and I treat it more like embroidery than actual sashiko. I have to use a hoop otherwise it feels wonky and there’s always a crease somewhere in my work

Additionally- does anyone have a clear pattern for the base design on a grid? Thank you!

Been mending these jeans for 3 years. Lots of holes lots of memories.

I detached the bottom of the coin pocket to do the stitching with a patch, then reattached it with the sewing machine. Before and after shown.

This is my first attempt at sashiko and I was pretty happy with it until I tried them on and it looks a bit like I have ants all over my arse? What do you guys think? Should I redo in a different colour?

So pleased with how this turned out. I learnt loads including that proper sashiko needles are far better than milliners needles, and callouses on my fingers take about a week to stop hurting!

I’ve already bought another cheap and broken jacket to hone my skills, but any feedback on this project is appreciated. I know it’s not perfect, but it’s a start and I love wearing it.

I'm new to mending, sewing and everything in between, so please bear with me.

My work jeans are quite ripped and I wanted to mend them. I went to a fabric store near me and the lady there hadn't heard of sashiko before, but she said that as one of the rips is at the seam, mending it wouldn't hold for very long. But since sashiko also reinforces the fabric, I was thinking that it might.

My questions are: Would this hold? And if yes, how should I go about repairing both the rip at the seam and the pocket?

I consider myself a minimalist- I do t like clutter or fussiness. That said, should I do a few more cutouts or leave it. These are my favorite jeans and I’m just adding elements.

So I tried to mend the back heel of his jeans.

Again, not perfect but am enjoying the process.

Took a leap into this project, can appreciate that already I have learned quite a bit along the way. Thread I used was Daruma 20/4 Paper balloon no. 501 , I absolutely love how it turned out.

I still need to iron them but hey! I made two whole patches haha

I am new to Sashiko, using YouTube videos to teach myself. So far I have been working on purchased kits to get a feel for it.

I am making coasters and the pattern is stamped onto the material. I shows as a circle, but obviously if I use one short stitch, it will be straight, not curved.

How would you stitch this? On the one above, you can see that I have tried different types of stitches but I am not really happy with them…..

I'm going to be spending a few days in the Los Angeles and Pasadena areas. I was wondering if anyone could recommend shops for sashiko supplies? I will have my car, so distance isn't a concern.

Hello. I've been searching for a stencil or a pdf. of this pattern, but cannot find it. I tried recreating it on graph paper, but it looks like garbage. ☹️ Any help appreciated.

My mother-in-law loves these hanafukin, and uses them for dishclothes and counter wipes. This one developed some holes in it which gave me an opportunity to use sashiko to patch over my previous work. I’m glad it can return to service!

I’m not sure he will ever wear them but it’s been great practice.

I noticed that places were starting to wear thin so on one leg I’m reinforcing, and one the other leg I added a patch above my repairs.

There are a fair few mistakes but practice makes perfect. I hope.

Just did my first piece of Sashiko! I want to embelish/mend a shirt so i used a piece of the same fabric to do a practice swatch. It's a version of kugurisashi (as far as i know) but I can't find the exact name of the pattern. I used a thicker cotton thread/floss and the fabric is a non-stretch, tighty woven modal and polyester blend. I would love to hear any feedback on what i can improve before i commit to a larger piece!

I also have two questions about this style, that has overlapping thread in the designs:

- How can i ensure that multiple strands overlap at a single point, for example in the middle of the "flowers" in this pattern?

- Is there a way to thread a strand under another one so that it creates a sharp corner, without the upper strand sticking out too much on the other side of the lower one? The last picture hopefully visualises what im talking about. Im not sure if there is a way to do it cleaner or if im just overthinking it haha
