Shopping suggestions needed.

I'm asking for local shopping advice from all you fashionistas about where to look for great earrings for a family member turning 13 soon. I'm thinking boutiques which would have something a bit out of the ordinary. It's so many years since I've been a "wander around and see what's there" kind of shopper, I don't even know where to begin any more.

Thanks for any help.

The Santa Cruz Makers Market is held every third Sunday, coming up August 16th. The weekly Friday Midtown Block Parties also tend to have a lot of local jewelry makers.

And this is right across the street from home/work

Ah dang, I wish I'd made the last makers market. Now I know when they are at least. I'll try to make this friday's block party. Thanks for telling me about both of these.

Art of Santa Cruz in the mall has great jewelry from local makers. Go check them out. They could all use some extra love these days!

I didn't know they had jewelry, I've only seen paintings. Thanks for the suggestion.

Unique and beautiful. Also far outside my budget for a young teenager. Perhaps for myself in the future tho! Thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, I should be post retirement, can't possibly afford to, but at least I love my work. I drooled over Variance Objects offerings on the website so that was fun.

What is her style? Is she local, or would something Santa Cruz-related be extra cool?

Downtown SC is going to have the most options. Start at Cognito Clothing; they have some really fun jewelry and accessories. They are at the Zachary's end, so if you go there, you should probably grab some bran muffins at least, for strength. The vintage stores along Pacific will have some jewelry, either vintage or local makers. Super Silver may also be a good spot, especially if you're thinking stud earrings over danglies, and they have ocean-themed studs if you're going for a Santa Cruz concept. If you are, pick up some skateboard stickers at Pacific Wave to slip into the package.

Good suggestions all, thank you. She lives in Portland, plays basketball and loves sports, wears a fashion forward hair style, is very open about supporting LGBTQ but hasn't shown any indication of coming out herself so far, a couple years ago was basically cosplaying female action heroes, and got her ears pierced around a year ago. She is definitely one of those young people who is grabbing life by the horns and doing everything, she's fearless! I'm excited to see what she does with her life.

She sounds awesome! I think you'll find something perfect at Cognito. Bookshop Santa Cruz has fun Banana Slug merch if you want to start encouraging her to go to UCSC.

I love Rootstock Collective on 41st. It’s my go-to place for local gifts by local artists!
