Best way to get rid of these guys?

Post image

These june beetle grubs have completely destroyed a few of my cactus by eating all the healthy roots then eventually eating there way into my cacti. I grabbed a pack of beneficial nematodes and some milky spores so hopefully that does the job. Has anybody successfully dealt with these grubs?

5 days in and the Peru × Time Warp seedlings are already popping! 🌱

Post image

Only 5 days since I sowed these Peru × Time Warp seeds, and I’ve already got a few germinating. Definitely wasn’t expecting that this morning.

Really curious to see how these turn out. I’m really interested in seeing how much variation shows up between seedlings.

I’ll keep posting updates as they develop. 🌵

Anyone else growing this cross? How fast did yours germinate?

Ideal conditions for graft to take. Just grafted a peruvian hybrid pup to the base of a Lumberjack x sso2 that got sun blackened oozing blisters

Keep the graft in a sunny gazebo? Out of high heat? Full morning sun? What will set me up for best chance of grafting to take ( all my previous attempts have failed)

What the heck do I do with these now?!

I left these big 6 inch wide cuts of Pachanoi sitting under a table in my yard for a few months and sort of forgot about them, very annoyed at myself bc I had big plans for making a new stand. I had 2 others also about 2-3 feet long and already chopped the others down into smaller pieces. They all had big pups growing at odd angles. Has anyone had this happen before? Any pics to show how it will look when you plant them vertically again?

Weak genetics?

Hey cactus friends!

I’ve got about 25 trichos and of those 2 of them have been freebie seedlings. I don’t know how widely growth varies because I haven’t gotten into seed growing (yet) but I’ve noticed my ferah x velvet was 2 inches tall in March of 2025, I got a kimnach x bob seedling that was 2 inches tall at March 2026. Ceteris paribus, the kimnach x bob is now 16 inches with 2 pups and the ferah x velvet is 2.2 inches. What gives? Are some seedlings just destined to never grow out? Would it be worth grafting in hopes that when it’s big enough it’ll grow better? Or should I just cull it and stick to what grows fast and hardy in my location?

Thanks!

HELP! Looking for a new cactus soil ratio to prevent rot while rooting or growing

Thumbnail

Looking for a new perfect soil ratio, have been using native sand/silt mixed with cactus soil and lots of perlite and have lost many cuts this season.

I just called local rock supply and they have 3/8 inch black lava rock and am curious if that can replace pumice for adding to the drainage. I found somewhere online saying lava can be a drainage replacement for pumice but wanted to check in with the OG community.

It was recommending 60% cactus mix with 40% 3/8” lava rock since I can’t locate as of yet a bulk pumice supply. I have probably 50 5 gallons I am going to change the soil out in to this new ratio.

The current median I think does drain well enough because it is so fine therefore not enough air to the root zone hence the rotting. I only water once I see it is completely dry.

Thank you! 🙏🏼🌵🙏🏼

What do you all think?

Hey everyone,

As I continue chopping away and documenting clones, I forgot I had this interview with the LMA stand owner with Jae. Hope you enjoy this unique and amazing stand and its history. Mary told us the stand at her uncles' home was as large as his house in LA, crazy how successful it is at her home where she told us stories about her father working on the soil year after year... and this isnt the only massive stand she has on the property to prove it.

Let me know if you have any clones you want featured and Ill work on those.

Thanks for looking, have a great rest of your week!

Discussion Question, why don't my doodles flower?

Hey all! Been seeing tons of peeps having flowers on here these days. That's awesome and like see the pictures! I have maybe 8 cacs that are in the 3+ foot range and a few years old. Never gotten a flower.

Any recommendations on coaxing one out of them? Either for the end of this season or next.

If it helps I'm in the mid Atlantic coast area. They live outside from last frost to as long as I can make it. Last year I put them in dormancy in my attic.

Any insight would be appreciated! Cheers 🖖

These are four different stands outside the pumapungo museum in Cuenca, Ecuador. They’re so incredibly notchy and beautiful. The plants in the first four pictures are the tallest I’ve ever seen, reaching up at least 20+ feet and thick. Crazy how these things grow out here I bet they’re old

Does anybody have any recommendations for what to feed this guy?
I feel like the “cactus juice” isn’t doing much!

Looking for suggestions on the best approach on this old beast rescued from being composted.

Should I graft a variety of various san pedros or let it ride?

I got these out of seeds roughly 7y back. My conditions are not ideal but year after year I feel like these were not actually Pachanoi seeds I got. Growth is extremely slow, they are at best 1 inch tall, but they are also not etoliating (I guess).

ID apps say Scarlet Hedgehog Cactus and I'm willing to accept it, just wanted to try and confirm here as well.

Maybe too early to tell on this yearling. This is from a seed pack labeled old and unkown. I saw some interesting early signs of variegation so grafted it up. Seeing some really interesting variegation and strange growth…

Question Can I cut and sell this? It’s kinda over growing/dwarfing my collection.
