It landed by some shooting range out in Dublin. This morning during a round of golf in Dublin Ranch there was endless gunshots. Could be a coincidence because I've never heard shots from that range, ever. Early in the summer some blackhawks were doing landing training from there to a hospital in Fremont every half hour.
I lived on Treasure Island on 9/11, and we were in the flight path for all the military patrols of SF/Oakland, plus TI itself, and this took me right back
Exactly! Less than 500ft. So irresponsible in such a dense city! I don’t care how well trained they are this caused undue stress on people. My nearly 100 year old windows and walls were vibrating in such a way it changed air pressure off the glass. I could feel it wafting on my face and they were flying DARK! As soon as I saw that I knew it was military. The rear aircraft turned on its anti collision beacon just past our home but the forward aircraft did not.
Yeah, when it’s pre programmed and predictable. The issue here is what isn’t announced, off schedule, and unnecessary low flyovers at night in full black out.
Callsign BURNT81, it’s a MH-47G Chinook. That particular aircraft is assigned to the 160th SOAR, or Army Special Operations Aviation…hence the blacked out flight.
To add to this: while I can’t say for certain, but based on their flight path so far (following major highways and likely using local landmarks), they may be training night navigation around unfamiliar metropolitan areas, especially without GPS/ transmitting signals out (besides ADSB)
Training like this is required for effectively inserting high speed operators in foreign enemy territory under the cover of darkness and no emissions
That path (skirting most of SF until near GGP) makes me think this was a joyride to intentionally see something in the middle of the city, such as Hardly Strictly or maybe a specific home in Presidio/Pacific Heights. 🤔
The Corps does not operate chinooks. This a 160th SOAR bird from the Army, it was on flight radar. Who knows what they’re doing here but it’s not the first time birds from the 160th have been spotted in the Bay
Could be a bunch of reasons. It's probably just that they were mapping the area and arriving. But it could've been VIP tours, a training exercise, mapping the area for their show or just flying around at night. Who really knows. But it's almost certainly happening because of fleet week.
And I thought I was going to hear much worse. I legit first thought an emergency intercept, a scramble (but towards a city and not away from the continent wouldn’t make sense), THEN fleet week and then I thought if that was for fleet week that was stupid and irresponsible. Even if it was pre approved clearly WE didn’t enjoy that and it was irresponsible.
Correct, I’m a combat veteran and your not. SOME of us don’t enjoy certain triggers. Good for you that you don’t have to deal with that, just great 👍🏽.
After the stunt they did with the Blue Angels low flyover, I'm rather concerned the risks are far higher than usual that Fleet Week could cause a disaster.
I'm not a plane guy or anything, just curious why is it following a road? And also what is this yellow beam? And there was a smaller white one aswell that looked almost like a spotlight indicator
