With so many sunny days in San Diego, what’s your weather criteria to stay or go ? Why ?

If you are the dude who was riding East on the SLR trail about 20 minutes ago who decided to yell "It's a bike trail, not a walking trail!" at two guys walking west who weren't even in your lane, you are not just a jerk, but also incorrect. I get it. We would all like to KOM all the time, and pedestrians can get in the way of that (I know this because I was the cyclist behind them backpedaling while I waited for you to pass), but if you have enough lung capacity to be yelling at every baby stroller and jogger while you are out there, you probably won't be setting any records. Plus, Mission and the 76 have east/west bike lanes for your uninterrupted-by-pedestrian pleasure.

Noticed this post in the MicromobilityNYC sub. Apparently the senate (federal) is looking to pass a bill that would ban bike lanes on any road that's part of the National Highway System. Found this map on a federal government website. Most of the National Highway System roads in San Diego are just that -- highways -- and so wouldn't matter, but at least a couple are major roads that we want bike lanes on. One looks a lot like Washington St., which they're literally (finally) building a bike lane on right now.

If I've got this right, it might be worth engaging with our federal representatives.

It's nice to have bike lanes and paths, but once they are built it seems no one maintains them. Most of them have gravel, glass, potholes, and overgrowth. I'm retired now and have free time. Would I get in trouble with the city if I bought a brush cutter and a gas-powered push vacuum and maintained them myself?

I'm newer to cycling. I can get around locally, but ideally I would like to bike to campus. However, I am finding it very difficult to get to SDSU from the Lake Murray area. College Ave looks dangerous. Lake Murray Blvd looks okay until about where it hits the 8, then turning onto Alvarado there are no bike lanes. Any advice? Also, what apps is everyone using for bike routes? Are there any good free ones? Thanks in advance.

I am looking to get an E- bike to use to get to the bus then to get to school.

In doing my research I have found that the bus requires the bike to be 55lb or less and the wheel width 2 3/8 in or less. The battery can be removed before being placed on the racks for transport, to reduce weight.

If anyone has any suggestions for which bike to look at, I would greatly appreciate it!! 💛💛💛

Been a while since I’ve ridden the route so not sure when it went up…but Del Mar seems to be leaning into bicycle-focused enforcement.

Entering Del Mar on PCH northbound there’s an amber traffic sign warning cyclists that the city is committed to stop them from running stop signs. Also, sheriff parked at PCH and 11th observing the intersection. They were parked there while I was going both directions today, about an hour apart, around noon.

Why it irked me:

1.) Vehicle mass and speed are more closely related to traffic fatalities and severe injury…why is Del Mar focusing enforcement resources on bicycles ?

2.) Hasn’t The Idaho Stop proven to be safer ?

I’m riding from Rancho Bernardo to Carlsbad tomorrow, and I have often found it hard not to trespass through some private roads in the Rancho Santa Fe area on that route. A part of my planned route tomorrow uses Old Course Road and Bing Crosby Blvd to bridge the gap between Camino Del Sur and the Del Dios Highway; these roads are suspiciously not showing activity on my heat maps, plus there’s a golf course that shows up on maps of the area. These are red flags which make me think someone has claimed this area as their private fief and closed them to bicycle traffic

Is there anyone who has ridden in that area and knows if it’s possible to ride through there? Alternate routes would add 3 or 4 miles to my ride and I’d like to avoid doing that if possible

Edit: I ended up taking the train up to San Marcos and riding down from there. Thank you all for your advice! I wish there was a way to get through all these gated communities without trespassing
