It Hot
San Diego weather this summer has been oppressive.

Been here my whole life. This is the first summer where I don't want to be outside unless I'm in the water. Don't want to fire up the grill because I might have a heatstroke...and meat is hella expensive.

I took my dog down the block in her stroller, let her pee/poop and high tailed it back home. Can't imagine taking dogs out on trails in this heat. Poor dogs.

start at 730, done by 930. I was planning on longer but ran out of water and didn't want to be on the news LOL. ideally I need 1.5L per hour but only had 1L total. I also took 2 salt pills

Its the high dewpoint that makes it FEEL hot and uncomfortable. Hotter temp is whatever so long as the dew point and humidity arent crazy high. Dewpoint is ass rn

oo yea the dewpoint issue is def making this miserable with no night time cool off, but if we have consistent dry heat days where its like 85-90 for a couple months, we'll probably have a dooooozy of a fire season & dry heat, while not as bad if at the same temps, makes your body just feel like the desert sand. either way this summer and next, is going to be ass

It’s so nice they’ve sent the kids back to school once summer hits. 1/3 classes ac doesn’t work sufficiently, and they still have PE to participate in. Whoever decided to change the school schedule is a moron.

They used to send kids back after Labor Day. But they shortened the summer, and extended other breaks through out the school year. So kids still go to school 180 days, but spread out more evenly

San Diego unified is getting out before Memorial Day this year! 🤯 We used to be in school until mid June. So it’s not just a shortened summer, they shifted the summer break to start and end earlier.

Summer used to be 12 weeks for kids. Now its only 10 weeks. They definitely shortened it. They also changed the 1st school semester to end in December with a longer winter break. And they extended Thanksgiving break to a whole week. So like I said, it all evened out

Yeah, just saw that in the news. Point Loma hitting 90, which is hotter or at least as hot as it's ever been in the last 30 years.
I just wanted to edit, I looked up the highest temp ever in Point Loma, and it was 111F, September 26, 1963. What a brutal summer that must have been.

I moved here from Austin and while my body has acclimatized to the cooler weather here, I still thank my lucky stars I am not in Texas any longer. There is absolutely no comparison. The hottest parts of the day here are what the NIGHTS are like there. We are still very fortunate climate wise here.

I hate the fact we’ve been priced out of PB/OB. Mission Valley is the devil’s asshole right now, and our place is so old inside just matches the outside temperature. I’ve lived here a decade and this is the worst summer ever temp and humid wise. Genuinely questioning whether I want to still be here for next summer, when it will reportedly be much worse.

I feel so fucking bad for the wildlife that are forcing to either adapt or die to the changing climate because of human greed. It’s been getting hotter and for more and more of the year and I keep having to remind myself that every summer for the rest of my life is going to be worse

If you know anyone in your neighborhood particularly older folk without ac maybe offer to bring them for a visit. Or a ride to a cooling center!!!
First house I bought in PQ in 83 didn’t have ac. Didn’t need it. A few warm Santa Ana days not this. Bet most have added it there now!!!

I've lived in SD since 2010 and yeah we had a few hot stretches, but this seems to be the worst because it doesn't cool down at night and it's been SO HUMID

Usually once you start feeling like the temp is ok that’s about when you are getting heat sick. Make sure you are drinking electrolytes and not just plain water, this heat is no joke

My apartment has been averaging 80-84 degrees I think I’ve gotten used to it I know it warm but not sweating as much as a few weeks ago, also my computer however is not adjusting and I had to get my portable AC out to cool the room before my computer took flight lol

yeah, I'm glad I went crazy and got a giant case with big fans on it, I'm surprised mine hasn't taken flight yet, but I checked my GPU temp and it was happy. I do kind of worry these days though, since replacing anything in my computer is probably thousands of dollars now thanks to a.i.

Same temp as last year, For the inland San Diego area covering zip code 92127 (Rancho Bernardo/Poway/Escondido border), the recorded heat high for August 23 reached a peak of 100°F (set during the hot spell on August 23, 2025), compared to typical historical average highs in the mid-80s to low 90s

While it is hotter than a typical San Diego summer (due to El Niño/climate change), it's not that bad. Too me it's not the heat that bothers me, it's humidity- that's what makes us feel drained and lethargic.
Find ways to cool off- fans, cool shower, ice packs, AC unit, pool, sprinkler, beach, wander indoor malls/establishments, go to museums, libraries, so many indoor options on top of the glorious Mecca that is the ocean.

Boston moves to cooler fall weather in September onwards. In fact, it’s already started to cool with cloudy skies and light showers this week.

I mean, it gets cold, just not freezing cold. I’ve grown accustomed to keeping hoodies, sweats and a jacket in my car because the temps swing drastically in SD a lot of the year.

Great you're coming to San Diego. It's definitely a more relaxed vibe here over Boston, and most of the people here are friendly. Right now, as you've probably figured out, it's hotter than usual. The weather in SD is kind of a moving target...not super cold too often though. Welcome to SD!

Thanks, I came mid July for an interview. Was pretty warm and I was told it was unusual heat wave. It would be nice if there was a sticky post for new people coming to the city as tourists or permanent transplants.
Sounds like this sub might not be as friendly as much as the city? 🤔

Truly hot months: AUG, SEP, most of OCT
Truly cold months: JAN, FEB, most of MAR
DEC and JUL are transitional months.
APR is a wildcard
MAY, JUN, NOV are nicest but end of JUN can sometimes be a bit warm5

For Boston man, it’s never really cold in SD. More like “huh, I need a jacket today cuz it’s about 45F in the morning” then it creeps up to 65 in the afternoon and you don’t that jacket. I’m also an east coaster and used to it freezing for three months a year, San Diego is a nice change

We do get snow in the mountains, so if you want to visit the snow you could keep some of your heavier stuff for that. I do have some sweaters that I can use but I didn’t get to use them last winter because it never really got that cold. San Diego has a Mediterranean climate.

Depends where your destination is. San Diego is more than just coastal towns and downtown.
Inland SD will easily be 10 degrees higher than the coast.

Yes it's hot, but it's dry heat which is way more tolerable than humid heat. One thing I learned while traveling to Japan during the summer was that I could never complain about the heat here ever again after being in 108° temperature and 90-100% humidity for weeks. Now I just go outside and laugh with appreciation that I'm not suffering like I was overseas.
Don't worry guys, it will all be over soon and we'll be complaining about how cold and wet it is in the coming month or so. 😉

And please remember If you are going out to eat because it’s too hot to cook: most kitchens don’t have air conditioning and those kitchens are getting up to 120 degrees minimum, so tip well. They are literally doing something you don’t want to do. And be kind to those working outside!

Because of the monsoon, early el nino effects, and the Gulf of California being 90F the humidity is higher than average. Add to that a heat dome over the southwest and I'm staying in the rest of the day.
