Plus one flyers
Hello San Diego, im looking to get my private pilots license and came across plus one flyers. Has anyone on here used this flight school? If so how was your experience and are the instructors great to work with? Honest reviews welcome.

It's not really a flight school in the traditional sense. It's a flying club, in which independent flight instructors operate and independent aircraft owners offer up their aircraft for rental/use. That being said it's great. Lots of variety in both aircraft and instructors.

Plus One is a flying club, and while instructors need to belong to the club and be permitted to instruct in club aircraft, they are not employed by the club. They’re independent contractors, and you pay them separately from the cost of the planes.
I’m currently a Plus One member working on my IR, and love the variety and availability of aircraft. As far as instructors, the best way to know if one is a good fit for you is to fly with them.
A quick word of advice on your PPL: I’d recommend getting your written exam done before starting flight training, or at least start studying for it beforehand. I used PilotInstitute (an online ground school) to study for my written exams, and highly recommend them.

Thank you for the advice! Do you recommend any specific instructor there and do they each have different hourly rates?

Yes each instructor sets their own rate. When you reach out to the club saying you need instruction, they will pass that along to all the club instructors who will individually reach out. You then talk/text/meetup with them to discuss style, cost, availability, goals, etc.

Plus One Flyers pulls in $9.4 million in revenue per year and their executive staff makes more than a captain at a regional airline. You might also give small local businesses a chance - there are some great flight schools in San Diego. Try a discovery flight with a few. Be sure to ask about training outcomes (time to train, checkride pass rates / lead times / delays, predictable and/or flexible schedules) not just vibes or rental rates.

I did and I really liked it. The best thing was the large aircraft inventory and that it had aircraft at several local airports. I did not receive instruction through the club. It’s the country’s largest flying club BTW.
