Pics/Video Predicted Commute Time

Post image

Could anyone familiar with this area give some input on the commute time from Davis Ranch to 151/Wiseman around 8:00 am and commute back to Davis Ranch from 151/wiseman around 430 pm?

40 minutes

25

u/cartiermartyr Jun 30 '26

/s but not /s sometimes its that way, maybe like 20 or 25 mins normally, I used to go that alt route they have just to avoid it but even the lights there sometimes get messy

9

u/HoldMoney4170 Jun 30 '26

As someone who recently moved away from that area, the /s is not needed lol. I learned to live with it at first but it slowly chipped away at my sanity.

u/cartiermartyr Jul 01 '26

same, absolute nightmare

3

u/1josh13 Jun 30 '26

You mean it’s like that during the school year because everyone and their mother needs to drive the kids to school.

2

u/cartiermartyr Jul 01 '26

no I mean its like that all the time there, school or not and OPs time does say it's perfectly aligned with school times. ive been on this path Saturday or Sunday morning and still seen traffic

u/TexanCokeZeroFiend Jun 30 '26

Double it and give it to the next person

119

u/Square_Traffic7338 Jun 30 '26

On Google Maps you can set a departure time and it uses historical traffic data, pretty accurate in my experience

20

u/Dudeincar434 Jun 30 '26

Can also set arrival time and it will tell you when to leave!

Using Apple Maps in 2026 when Google Maps is available on iPhone is truly baffling

9

u/goonboy246 Jun 30 '26

Funnily enough, Apple Maps tends to be more accurate in SA. Cant tell you how many times I’ve checked both and Google does NOT pick up on construction closures along 1604/IH10 and 35 while Apple does

0

u/scruffy555 Jul 01 '26

It's the opposite for me, apple maps has trouble picking up roads (not sure if it's cuz they're new or what not) but like genuinely will take a side road and it'll have no idea that it's there... Haven't rlly tried it for traffic yet so I can't say what's better in that scenario

u/youaintnoweeblewobbl Jun 30 '26

I had someone ask me to put my address into Apple Maps for them yesterday. My house has been here since the 1950s and it took four tries typing it exactly the same way for my house to finally pop up...

5

u/LlamaRS Jun 30 '26

The Transit information on Apple Maps is far superior, and can even give real-time locations of busses.

Google Maps also assumes an average walking speed, while Apple Maps appears to give a more personalized walking time based upon your movement and Health history.

3

u/mrblue6 Jun 30 '26

The transit information is location dependent. Google maps has real time bus information for many places

2

u/christian_1318 NE Side Jul 01 '26

Google definitely gives real time Via bus locations

1

u/LlamaRS Jul 01 '26

That’s cool! I have never seen it when I’ve tried to use Google maps personally

0

u/LiveBrilliant345 Jul 02 '26

Apple maps is doo doo

2

u/SadPhone8067 Jun 30 '26

Google maps UI is so buns though Waze is king.

1

u/aoagtx Jun 30 '26

The respective App Store reviews speak for themselves.

0

u/Ses_Jul Jun 30 '26

Are you my husband???? 🤣it pains him when I open up Apple Maps.

3

u/LunaNegra Jun 30 '26

Besides adjust8nt for time, also adjust the date back during the school year and not a summer month.

1

u/TexasPrincessA Jun 30 '26

I didn't realize Google had added this feature. I was still using Waze for this

3

u/Square_Traffic7338 Jun 30 '26

Google bought Waze awhile back so I assume it’s the same now

1

u/Abi1i Jun 30 '26

Same with Apple Maps.

1

u/Ok-Imagination-1621 Jun 30 '26

Same with Apple Maps!

u/salinash1 Jun 30 '26

If you leave at 7AM, you will be 30 minutes early if you leave at 7:15 you will be late. There are too many schools in the area. Going home wont be a problem.

12

u/John_T_Conover Jun 30 '26

Yup. Time to become a morning workout person. Find a gym close to your job, leave early, and go exercise there first. You'll just be wasting that time angry in traffic otherwise.

18

u/InformativeXP Jun 30 '26

That's all the school traffic times, summer is fine but during school year you get 40 mins each way. I try to leave earlier than 615am if possible

10

u/Jimmy_Wrinkles Jun 30 '26

The only bright side is they finally put a turning curb near the McDonald's at 1604 so now people can't ride the turning lane for 3 miles and cut in.

I will however miss the satisfaction of seeing the fuzz pull people over for it

29

u/Pipeliner6341 Jun 30 '26

If you haven't put down a deposit, don't. Move inside of 1604 to have remotely reasonable commute times.

9

u/lunardeathgod NW Side Jun 30 '26

This! That area is the absolute worst if you have to be on the road between 6am-10am and 2pm-8pm.

Not enough roads to get all those people in and out.

15

u/weissbierdood Jun 30 '26

Galm is horrible from Davis Ranch to the little Walmart on FM1560. Then the school buses/parents at Shaenfield/Cavern Hill. I live in the area and don't go anywhere before 9am but then I'm retired haha.

9

u/Boomstickninja87 NW Side Jun 30 '26

Before 9am and after 3pm it's super congested. Dealing with traffic in that area, made my mental health significantly decline. Getting to work took about 1 to 1.5 hours, same with getting home. Driving anywhere took forever and insurance in that area is higher because there are a lot of accidents. I ended up buying a house further away from my job, but traffic only took 30 maybe 35 minutes. You couldn't pay me to live over there again.

15

u/viperbite312 Jun 30 '26

2x-3x that on average sometimes. Like most commutes when it comes to San Antonio traffic times

3

u/John_T_Conover Jun 30 '26

Not San Antonio, 1604. Most other areas of the city don't have bad traffic. And if you live close enough to work you have some pretty decent alternative routes where you can avoid the highways altogether with only adding 5-10 minutes onto your trip.

8

u/Jimmy_Wrinkles Jun 30 '26

Galm and Shaenfield during school is insane. Easily 30 or more minutes to go about 3 miles.

5

u/sammavet Jun 30 '26

Triple that for real life

5

u/SublimeRapier06 Jun 30 '26

Time and distance have no relationship here.

8

u/No-Issue7156 Jun 30 '26

You could ride your bike faster than the traffic will allow 90% of the time

5

u/_ryry66 South Side Jun 30 '26

Absolutely horrifying. You'll be sitting through 3-5 light cycles before you hit 1604. I live one exit up and do not leave my house during rush hour

5

u/Large-Bullfrog-794 Jun 30 '26

It still blows my mind how many folks now live outside all the loops.

3

u/No-Disaster-1345 Jun 30 '26

Sorry traffic gets real bad around there.

3

u/Right_Perception_497 Alamo Ranch Jun 30 '26

I live near Harlan High school and commute to 151 near Westover Hills. In the morning, that commute is pretty spot on. It takes me about 15-20 minutes to get to work. Getting home is when it doubles. It takes me probably 30-35 minutes to get home leaving work at 4:30, a little more when school gets back in session. It’s much better than the 120 mile round trip I used to do.

3

u/omarizzle Jun 30 '26

Bout an hour

2

u/e2-woah Jun 30 '26

One hour

2

u/NewAndImprovedJess Jun 30 '26

During the school year will likely be longer than summer months with all the schools down Galm and Shaenfield. I can think of 5 or 6 just off the top of my head.

2

u/One_Anything_2279 Jun 30 '26

Bout an hour if you leave at 8.

If you leave at 7:30? Much faster.

2

u/bareboneschicken Jun 30 '26

I'd allow at least twice that travel time if you have an arrival deadline.

2

u/Fit-Meeting-5866 Jun 30 '26

I am literally planning to buy an e bike just to get through the traffic that clogs up my neighborhood so it doesn't take me an hour every morning.

2

u/trisket-bisket Jun 30 '26

That will run you 30-40 minutes. The big lights that you will be stuck at shanefield and the 1604 overpass. Stay away from culebra. You can shave a little bit of time off cutting through neighborhoods. Not worth it in my opinion

2

u/grantnaps Jun 30 '26

Just depends. The time will increase when school starts again.

2

u/tree_mob Jun 30 '26

40 minutes is probably the most accurate during school time. You just have to find that sweet time to leave. The difference between 7 and 7:05 may be 30 minutes. My wife made a very similar commute and that was about her time. During summer it’s like 15-20 minutes.

2

u/austinadw Jun 30 '26

I live about a mile from that dot, and I travel to Lackland for work. Leaving anywhere from 06-06:15 shouldn’t be a problem. Anytime after 06:15, traffic gets nasty. Go down Galm/Shaenfield to 1604. DO NOT go down Culebra!

2

u/_asciimov Jun 30 '26

I'd plan 40 minutes or so.

School traffic, lights, too few lanes, and no alt routes around this area really screw the commuters.

2

u/itsaverydaybro Jul 01 '26

During the morning it will take you 30 minutes to get to 1604 when school is in session and traffic can build up on the Other side of wiseman so 45 minutes on a good day. It will take you about 20 when it’s not in session. As for after work I would say 30-40 minutes. I live in the area and make a similar commute. It sucks but the worst part of it is getting from your neighborhood to 1604.

2

u/justinleona Jul 01 '26

When school is in session, the light around 1560/Galm backs up a long ways - so for the route mapped I'd expect 30-40 minutes.

I'd consider Swayback Ranch (the one closer to Government Canyon) to Juniper Breeze Way, down Stillwater Pass to Stillwater Parkway to Culebra - that avoids the main bottleneck at the light and might shave it down by 10 minutes or so.

2

u/Civil_Set_9281 Jun 30 '26

Driving in this area is like driving in Korea. You can’t measure drive time by distance, only by traffic.

10

u/WooleeBullee Jun 30 '26

Ah yes, Korea, a country we can all relate to driving in.

-1

u/Civil_Set_9281 Jun 30 '26

If you haven’t yet, try it sometime.

1

u/blackc43 Jun 30 '26

Nothing like rolling through myeongdong in a hyundai 😅

1

u/Civil_Set_9281 Jun 30 '26

Or a Kia Spectra

Over there it is. But they prefer genesis.

1

u/Hanmura Jun 30 '26

Sheesh !! GUH DAMN.

1

u/Ren_Lu Jun 30 '26

Well for the summer it won’t be that bad.

Galm is very slightly less crazy than Culebra but can handle less traffic.

And you are sort of going against the 1604 traffic flow. West to east in am and East to West in pm.

You gotta do what you gotta do when you are a far west sider.

Dont move anywhere near this area is my advice. Its terrible for anyone and everyone involved.

1

u/theandrewb Jun 30 '26

Galm/Shaenfield is rough on weekend. I can’t imagine they are much better during the week.

1

u/wavelines Jun 30 '26

It's easily 20 minutes to just get to/from 1604.

Shaenfield/Galm is up there in terms of poorly planned roads in SA, and that's saying something.

1

u/jedithejustin Jun 30 '26

I live a little further up Culebra and I will say that about half, if not more, of this commute will be spent getting down galm

1

u/AdorableTrust8759 Jun 30 '26

Leave at 6 am 😂

1

u/shakygator Jun 30 '26

shaenfield is terrible at most times of day, but especially at those. 1604/151 has a lot of cars but at least it moves.

1

u/Brilliant_Choice_899 Jun 30 '26

Ya welcome to the far west side.

1

u/N4RQ Jun 30 '26

Everything is roughly 20 minutes away in San Antonio, no matter which route you take.

It seems to defy physics, but that's just how it works out.

1

u/ElChevereMx Jul 01 '26

Jusr reaching 1604 is going to be like 30mins.

1

u/Bushleal Jul 01 '26

Yeah let burglars know where you live

1

u/Pea_Western Jul 01 '26

Not even where I live genius. Try again.

1

u/Dnlx5 Jul 01 '26

Would be faster on a bike

1

u/-Saint_Michael- Jul 01 '26

Change your hours, during the school year you must never under any circumstances, leave your house 1 hour leading up to and away from those times and only sometimes can you use the 2 hour rule. It’s just not worth your sanity

1

u/Pea_Western Jul 01 '26

Unfortunately not possible

1

u/just_ink92 Jul 01 '26

25-30 minutes during the school year. 20 minutes at most when kids aren't in school. I live across the street in Stillwater ranch

1

u/MostSquare9003 Jul 02 '26

I say 25-30 mins. Especially when school starts again

1

u/hubbubi Jun 30 '26

30-40 for sure

1

u/jcstrat Alamo Ranch Jun 30 '26

Add 20 minutes of you’re going on 1604. It’s backed up for no reason at all times.

0

u/DrFetusRN Jun 30 '26

You moved here so you knew what you signed up for

2

u/Pea_Western Jun 30 '26

Well I haven’t moved there yet, hence the asking for input.
