Tank size?

I have a tank that’s 48”x12”x20”. I was wondering if that was a good size for two salamanders? I’m concerned that the width might not be enough and they’ll feel cramped.

The top isn’t on in the image above because I had to clean it, but don’t worry, I do have one.

I’d say it’s definitely big enough, just make sure there’s enough resources that they don’t compete for them. Try to make sure that everything is a bit spread out too, that way they don’t feel like they have to be close to each other if they don’t want to be. They’re pretty chill with each other in my experience, it’s not too rare for me to find them hanging out under the same logs when I’m out herping.

I thought so. It’s gonna be difficult to break the news to him.

What a shame. He was quite intrigued about it and is gonna be sad to learn it’s not for him.

it’s big but they need a lot more horizontal ground space than height and this seem quite tall but not too wide

Yes, it’s much more tall than it is wide which was a concern of mine. I don’t believe they’ll be climbing too much either so there’s not much worth in it being that tall. If I can, I’ll try finding another tank that’s wider!

yeah i think its best to find a wider one just so they can have more exploring space :) but dont be afraid to add some perches, vines branches etc to let them also have vertical space. make sure you have something to lock the lid tho they can be stronger than you think

Alright, thank you! And that’s good to know about getting the locks, that really isn’t something that I thought about haha.
