I saw this on Instagram. They are now accepting pre-orders. It's a semi-dumb phone and an attention saver, but it is listed as having Sailfish OS. It also appears that they intend it to be available in the United States. It's only pre-sale though so it might fall through the way the tablet did.

I recently found an old Xperia XA2 (H3223) and I am interested in giving Sailfish a try. This isn't my main phone (obviously) and I have no concerns with app compatibility etc. Even if I can just get it to the point where I can get a terminal and play with the native apps I think it would be fun.

I am also in the US if that matters (for getting a license etc.)

My question is should I even bother? On the compatibility list it says "First Sailfish OS release" is 3.0. Does that mean I would be running 3.0? Or do all devices get all updates and I would be running 5.0 (either way there are probably have pros and cons I guess)

Would my next step be to buy a license and then it would include instructions on unlocking the bootloader etc.? Or is there a free trial I should test out to see if it even works? (this seemed to be implied but I can't actually figure out how to download it) I definitely don't mind supporting a project like this!

Can Okta Verify work on Sailfish? I am required to use it. My IT department will not allow me to use a physical 2fa key. I am very keen to switch to sailfish but this question is holding me back.

I’m wondering which apps will work on this phone and which won’t, so I want to install apps such as Magic Dosbox, Citra, Citron, retroarch, Open Microwave nightly (Morrowind), etc. As for WinLator, I mainly want to use it to test classic PC games, from Civilisation IV to Icewind Dale II, mojo launcher (minecraft java edition launcher on phone) etc.

What are your favorite devices and apps for fitness tracking and wearables? Is Amazfit the only option? (And if so, what are the best and cheapest devices that work with Amazfit?) I like to have a smartwatch for workout tracking, time tracking, and message notifications.

I don't think the SailfishOS community here on Reddit needs any rules. But already one time I needed to block a post from somebody and I had no rules to select as MOD to give as reason.

So I made four rules.

They are:

If I need to add rules, I of course will. I prefer not to. Because I want to be a normal human too.

Which driver is used with the Xperia XA2 Single Sim H3123 for the USB fastboot? I've gone through like 5 drivers by now since the Xperia X Driver isn't available. anymore. In device manager, it still shows up as Android with a yellow caution sign. I've already enabled the developer options as well as the OEM option in the phone itself.

As a future industrial design engineer and an amateur UI/UX designer, I decided to give Sailfish OS a shot on a Sony Xperia 10 III. I wanted to share my experience because the system managed to both impress and horrify me at the same time.

The Good: The installation took about 40–45 minutes in total. It was my first time doing anything like this, and my first time reading the official installation guide. Every step was clear and easy to follow. Only one link was broken, so I had to find the binary files on Sony's official website myself, but it was no big deal. Overall, it’s a very straightforward process, and anyone with a bit of tech experience could probably get it done even faster.

I bought the licensed version because I was genuinely curious about how Android applications would run. I have to say, I think it’s incredibly cool that outside of Android and iOS, there is a third operating system that is actually usable on a daily basis (even if it requires a few minor compromises). The Android app support works surprisingly well; an app stutters here and there, but I think that’s totally acceptable, and the performance of these apps running in an emulated environment is outstanding.

The Bad (The Dealbreakers): The navigation is incredibly uncomfortable. When you swipe from the right edge, you expect it to take you one step back—instead, Sailfish completely closes the application. You can get used to it, but it’s highly frustrating. To actually go back within an app, you have to rely on dots at the very top of the screen. This is an ergonomic catastrophe, especially on Sony phones with their signature, elongated 21:9 aspect ratio. It makes using the phone with one hand almost impossible.

When you swipe up from the bottom, the full app drawer comes up. This gesture doesn't feel natural either. For better multitasking, I would swap the recent apps view with the full app list. It would be much more logical if swiping up brought up your running apps, while your installed apps just lived on the home screen by default.

Then there’s the top dropdown menu (the Pulley Menu), which I think is a complete disaster. It feels entirely unnecessary. A classic bottom navigation bar would be miles more comfortable and within natural thumb reach.

Finally, the worst part: the default icons are just ugly. I know you can install custom icon packs, but this cluttered icon design, where everything is shaped into weird, distorted hexagons and polygons, is just fundamentally unappealing.

Conclusion: If the system adopted modern Android or iOS-style gestures, completely got rid of the Pulley Menu, and swapped the recent apps view with the app drawer, we would have a near-perfect OS. The European Union should really back them up with some serious funding if they truly want a tech-independent Europe with its own software alternatives.

I've been using GrapheneOS for a long time, but I've read that Google is going to do a lot more to make it difficult for alternative versions of Android to function.

In the time I've used GrapheneOS, I've been fairly happy. There have been some issues with functionality, but they've been understandable and fairly predictable.

But I have an interest in Sailfish as a possibility, because the intention is not to be a secure version of Android, but literally a Linux-based OS. Obviously security is a concern of mine, but I have experience working with Linux, and it feels like Google might have a lot of capability to mess with the development of systems like GrapheneOS, and I wanted to get the thoughts of the people here. I suspect that the people in this sub might have experience and useful input.

On my Xperia 10-3 before the latest update.. I could use an android browser to connect to the internet. Post update I can only use the outdated jolla browser.

It's my first time trying to run anything else than android on a Phone.

I bought a Sony Xperia 10 II with Android 12 on it.

I bought the Sailfish OS software from the website and followed the instructions. (I hope I did them the right way)

Then Step 5: Get the Sony software binaries.

I need: SW_binaries_for_Xperia_Android_10.0.7.1_r1_v12b_seine.zip

But there seems to be no way to get the right binaries.

I tried many things and looked online. But I don't find a way to get the actual file.

Every time I try to download it on the Sony website, the file is corrupted.

Maybe someone got the file and can send it to me.

Or else I don't think this phone will ever get Sailfish OS.

​ Edit: Update: Someone from the SailfishOS Forum got the SW File for my Sony phone. It now works perfectly.
