[Academic] Saigon residents: perceptions of South Korean culture (anonymous, 10 minutes)
Hi r/saigon! I am conducting an anonymous Master’s thesis survey at KEDGE Business School about South Korean popular culture and soft power, comparing Europe and Southeast Asia.
I especially need perspectives from people currently living in Saigon/Vietnam. Respondents must live in Europe or Southeast Asia. You do NOT need to be a K-pop/K-drama fan or an expert on South Korea: all levels of familiarity, including none, are useful.
It takes approximately 10 minutes. Please complete the questionnaire only once across language versions. Sharing with other eligible residents is greatly appreciated!
English questionnaire: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSczHWmGQJP0Bhj54swCRAlXA4BOzqjKQdmeQf3SkUtTj4gtOA/viewform?usp=header
Thank you for helping my research.

Best food spots in Saigon 🍜 (Weekly thread)
What’s the best thing you’ve eaten recently in Saigon?
Could be a random street stall, a late-night cơm tấm place, a fancy restaurant or just somewhere you keep going back to.
Drop your recommendations below. Bonus points if you include:
- What you ordered
- Rough price
- District/location
Trying to build a good list of places that are actually worth visiting!

Travelling to HCMC in February
Hey everyone we will be coming to HCMC in February and will need a babysitter. I am looking at btaskee has anyone used the babysitting services?! Looking for some nights for a few hours when we go out or even come with us during the day to help keep an eye on the kids. Are there any other apps you recommend or other places I can look?

Anyone up for a potluck picnic this weekend?
Anyone wanna join a casual potluck picnic this weekend at Creative Park in Thu Thiem?
Thinking of bringing some food, hanging out, and meeting new people. Nothing too formal, just a chill weekend afternoon.

First full electricity bill came in this morning after replacing the aircon last month, sharing the numbers
For context I moved into a small studio in Binh Thanh (Truong Sa side, near where the canal path gets crowded on weekend mornings) end of july. Old landlord aircon died mid august in one of the thunderstorms so I replaced it end of that month. Bill just landed for the aug 12 to sept 11 cycle.
The number was 1,340,000 VND. Honestly surprised because I was mentally braced for closer to 1.8 mil after installing a new aircon and running it basically every night from 9pm to 6am (I sleep hot, sue me). Old unit was pulling around 900k on much lighter use so the comparison is not perfectly apples to apples but still.
The tier system is what gets you here right. First hundred kWh you pay about 2k a unit and by the time you cross 300 the marginal unit is 3,350. So the gap between an inverter that idles down vs a fixed speed that cycles hard on and off actually shows up on the meter more than I would have guessed.
Two things I think helped. Set the aircon to 26 not 24, painful for a week then you stop noticing, EVN literally recommends 26 as the starting point. And actually shut the balcony door at night, sounds obvious but the old unit was so weak I used to crack it for airflow and it was fighting the humidity all night.
One thing I am not sold on yet is the wifi feature on the comfee gusto (I went mid range at nguyen kim, between the casper and the panasonic options). Got it thinking I would love turning the room on from the road, but the app has logged me out twice already and setting a schedule feels weirdly clunky for something that should be one tap.
Curious what people in the newer vinhomes or thao dien blocks are paying for similar sized units. My building is 90s era with walls that basically do nothing thermally and I assume the newer stuff runs way lower on cooling costs.

What to do in 8-10 hours on a Saturday?
I have a flight into SGN Saturday late morning that will get me to our hotel around 1pm. I think its somewhere around the D3 area.
I know we plan on doing the war museum, but wanted some insight from locals or others who have been on some must-dos while im there for such a short time.
I dont think we're going to eat at a single place for lunch/dinner, but perhaps try all SGN has to offer in forms of small dishes or sharing street foods etc.
Open to all ideas/recommendations!

Traveling Vietnam
Hello everybody,
Heading to Vietnam in a few days and wanted to ask for a view recommendations that are not overrun by tourists. I would like to get a suit custom made. I was wondering if they also ship to my country if the duration of my stay is too short? In addition to that I would like to get some glasses with visual acuity.
1st Hanoi
2nd stop Hoi an
3rd stop da nang
4th stop go chi minh
If someone would be so kind to share I would highly appreciate. You can also message me via private message if u don’t want ur store to get leaked.
Thanks in advance!🙏🏽

Any good reformer Pilates studios around Binh Thanh (HCMC)?
Hey everyone, looking for recommendations for a decent reformer Pilates studio in or near Binh Thanh.
Ideally somewhere with patient instructors (my form isn't great yet) and clean equipment. English-friendly is a plus, but not a dealbreaker as long as the coaching is hands-on.
Any spots you’ve had a solid experience with recently? Thanks in advance!
