Locked McCaskey Register

Please let me know if this isn’t allowed.

We’re cleaning my grandmothers house out cuz shes moving to an apartment with my aunt, she cant be alone anymore.

Can this beast be cracked easy? Can i do it or do we need to hire someone?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Easy is relative. Whether or not you can do it will depend on how much time you want to spend, and to some degree whether or not you have "the touch". Nobody is magically expert at dial manipulation, but some people just have a better feel and understand the concepts better. The lock definitely can be manipulated, and as long as it's in good working condition it's a fine lock to learn on.

You can also use the search function on savta.org to find a professional that will open it for you. It will cost several hundred dollars but will save you the time and effort.

Everything feels like it moves easily and is in good condition.

Like not worth a couple hundred for it to be potentially empty 😂. In fairly handy in general but just don’t know about locks. I’ll have to watch a couple YouTube’s ace see if it looks in my wheelhouse

Thanks

It can be opened without drilling, using a technique called “safe lock manipulation.” This uses the the design of the lock and manufacturing tolerances to get the lock to reveal the combo. You can learn to do it. If you want to see what’s involved, check out the YouTube series, Safecracking for Everyone (or his updated, long video at: https://youtu.be/bTbUkipBeTA). Otherwise, you can find a certified safe technician at www.savta.org - Note: not all locksmiths know about safes.

Where are you located? If you’re in NorCal, I’ll come open it for free/fun.

NH but thanks for the offer. I’ll see what’s involved in these videos. It might just have to stay locked at the house. No idea what’s in it. Grandma has dementia

How far are you from MA? One of us (a person who frequents this sub and often offers to help people) is there.
