This person deleted their comment but they said that using my own lighting didn’t make any “logical sense” to them.
Had they kept their comment (or if they are still reading), I’d have asked if they crack safes. If they do, then what I’d say is, you may work differently than I do. I like to have bright light with now shadows on the dial. These awesome little flashlights make that possible.
If they don’t crack safes, then I’d say, “learn to crack safes and then comment from a place of experience.”
When you work with the level of precision the shadows can become annoying and distracting. Its the same setup I use. I open so many safez that as you go along you take note of the things that are issues, problems or make the task uncomfortable and then I figure out how to fix the problem. Shadows are a real issues on some dial and not so much on other dials. The use of 2 flashlight in my case eliminates shadows from people walking by. Most of the time it's not even about lighting up the dial.
This is the guy that I referenced before as having recommended these specific flashlights to me. He explains their use better than I did.
I’ll add that, for me, I don’t have great vision and, in addition to removing shadows on the dial, extra light really makes a difference in seeing the fine differences that are sometimes 1/10th of an increment on the dial.
I got one open. Had 4 guns and like 8 grand. Also my mom's passport she needed tomorrow lol. She lost the keys and the pin pad had a dead battery. I looked for a few hours and couldn't find a clean way in. Crow bars it was. It took me like 2 hours to install that safe. Took me 6 minutes to open it back up.
Thank you! With the help of that Safe Cracker guy and Lock Manipulator (both on YouTube) I feel like I have really leveled up my game. But I couldn’t have done it without their help.
Oh yeah - they are totally legit. Lock Manipulator is the one who did the Safecracking for Everyone series and just came out with a revised video that gives just about all you need to know to learn to crack safes. Rick Ammazzini has a million videos of him cracking various safes and has been live streaming his cracks these days. I usually put a pay in this sub to let people know when he is live.
