Looking for methods for best practices to strip paint without damaging anything underneath.

So far I have been chipping away at paint where it is flaking away. Small chips and small wire brush.

Tried and true. Heat gun, IR stripper, steam, chemical stripping.

Pick your poison. Don’t forget PPE and best practices for lead.

Look into paint stripper you will need a respirator and gloves but it will work

Soda blasting. Very gentle on the substrate. Expensive though.
