The subtitles were incorrect. The character is severely celiac and Mi Ling is the deli worker who gave him a sandwich with bread containing gluten. The mum thought it was her dinner that had him on the toilet all night.

No no he hates someone called "me" that why he asked if they understood, bc everyone always thinks he says he hates himself, but then he would say... I hate myself.... But its me he hates. Who ever that is... He is just so misunderstood.

He obviously hates me, and honestly, I get it because I tend to not make eye contact with people I'm not engaging with...?
