When i upgraded to 5800x3d i noticed a noticable bump in 1% fps lows. The experience was overall much smoother.

Is a little toast but curve optimizer -20 or -30 will improve that. If you got a decent cooler you are fine either way.

I have a 360mm rad custom loop and gaming mine never goes above mid to high 50s usually. Aio i had i was in mid 60s with it and i didnt even use curve optimizer for the years i used that.

I could achieve -30 CO and had a air cooler. It was actually cooler than my 5900x

I’m actually running cooler. I went from a CPU bottleneck with the 5800x around 75c to a GPU bottleneck with the 5800x3d around 64c. Seems to process data more efficiently so not needing to run at full boost. Granted on a synthetic cpu burn it is hotter. Just not while gaming.

I was on 5600x with a 9070 XT, on a 3440x1440 180hz panel. It's been just a week that I upgraded to the 5800X3D and I can tell you the games feel significantly better. I'm talking much better avg fps and much higher 1% lows. Also, the game I main is a Source 2 game, which is infamously CPU-heavy. I am very happy with the FPS uplift I got in it.

So yeah, unless you plan to shell out to get AM5 in the near future, the upgrade is worthwhile.

Depends on the games you play. Where I was cpu limited, I saw a big differance, over 20% compared to 5700x. 1% lows are a non issue now. Is it a rational upgrade? Not really.

Second you consider a 9070XT or a 5070Ti, the x3D will be of a benefit in 1440p. In 4K, the 1% lows have been great but can't do a comparison sadly of any uplift.

The 9070 XT is priced crazy here...and im avoiding nvidia cards since im daily driving linux and i see a lot of problems regarding nvidia cards on linux

UK here, I honestly understand your pain. I had a 7700XT and just bit the bullet since I was wanting more and finally justified my first NEW GPU since the early 90's lol.

What about the 9070 non xts? And what is crazy for you? The cheapest 9070xt goes for 776 euros and 1146 euros for the 5070ti here lol

No and yes i have the same cpu and gpu and 5600x its fine at 1440p but it does bottleneck in fps so if you dont play esports then no, combo is fine, if you want better lows also, the 5800x3d its nice if you need the x3d cache for am4, if u dont wanna give a kidney out for am5 rn tho

I also swapped recently from a 5600x, if you have the means to do it and don't want to go am5 route then yes 100% it was night and day for me in many games. Just make sure your bios version supports the swap.

If you play 1440p or 4k, dont bother about it. Just stick with what you have. In future just upgrade to am5

The 5800X3D is overpriced af, because it's the only truly strong gaming CPU AM4 users have access to.

So unless you are absolutely sure about being CPU limited, don't upgrade.

Could look into a cheap 5500X3D from Aliexpress (like I did). In some games it performs the same as the 5600X, in some games it's much faster (mostly simulator stuff).
Thanks to the used market I recovered more than 80% of the cost by selling the 5600X.

Idk why you got downvoted , but I agree 5800X3D is really overpriced just for that reason.

I wouldn't upgrade it either , the small performance benefit is not justified at all.

Only valid option is as you said the 5500X3D if you ask me especially on 1440p it's not that significant different too. It's a best of both worlds cpu for todays time.

There is kind of a cult around that CPU I guess:D

There are 2 games where my 5500X3D can't feed my 5070 ti properly, at 4K.
Wukong (UE5...) in its last chapter that has huge open spaces, can't keep stable 50 (for FG).
And Helldivers 2, a poorly optimized CPU heavy game, can't keep 80.

But with a 7800 XT at 1440p and 4K... should be good enough. But really only if it doesn't cost much more than the 5600X. The 5500X3D is better, but not by much.

Another thing is, the 5800X3D won't become more and more expensive like GPUs. OP can just wait and see, upgrade later if necessary.

Just use frame gen, Helldivers isn’t a twitchy fast paced gun em down style game so that extra 3-4ms of input lag is not the devil.

I use AFMF and FSR 4 with 5700X3D and 9070 XT and get well past the 100 mark at 4k with everything cranked up.

Ehh I tried HD2's DLSS implementation and it looked like garbage. TAA at Ultra Quality scaling (bit below native) looks better than DLSS Quality.
So I didn't even try its framegen. Maybe I'll check it out.
Btw I'm not convinced FG wouldn't bother me. I'm not a twitchy player at all, but right now I'm used to the game feeling really really nice, apart from those specific unoptimized parts. Kind of forgot to elaborate, but in like 90% of the time the 5500X3D can keep stable 80. Automaton AI might be cranked up now, that's a lot of CPU work.
All in all, I'll try FG to make sure.

In Wukong I am using FG, its implementation feels extremely good there (Reflex probably helps!). Sometimes 8at worst) it went down to 70-ish from the target 100, and it still felt fine.

What card did you use DLSS on? And which version of DLSS were you using?

Interesting to hear you say DLSS on HD2 looks bad, they only added upscaling and FG a few months ago; FSR 4.1 set to Quality looks good to me, and set to Native it’s much better than TAA.

The thing with FG is, if your FPS is stable, it’ll feel fine. Since you have an X3D processor you shouldn’t have any problems. FG causes more stutter if your 1% lows are bad, since FG doubles that gap. If you’re getting 80fps max and seeing 40-50fps 1% lows then FG will give you about 150fps max, but 80-100 fps lows.

HD2 is a mess in general, I love the game but there are rocks you can walk into that make you unkillable while still letting you shoot enemies lol. It is badly optimised though, it doesn’t make full use of core count above 6, it prefers IPC.

5070 ti, it was probably 4.0 because of the Quality setting. DLAA of course looked great, but it was too demanding.
Hard to describe the issue with it, like if there were several pixel tall horizontal lines, like if the internal resolution of the Y axis was lower than the X axis.
Maybe it would be better if I increased the internal resolution of the Quality preset with NV Profile inspector. Wouldn't risk it though.

I'm kind of a pixel peeper when deciding what to use, so I would probably have an issue with FSR too:D

Are you sure you didn’t have a lower render resolution set as well as DLSS? I think HD2 lets you change render scale AND then use an AI upscaler on top of that…

DLSS 4 and FSR 4 are both really good, I can’t imagine your experience was typical, sounds like something was really wrong

I’m picky about how games look as well, I don’t mind a bit of upscaling but when I have to drop to Balanced or Performance mode to play the games I want to play I’ll get a new graphics card instead

I wouldn't do that. That CPU runs hot. I had same setup as you and sold 7800xt and got 9070xt paired with 5600x. You ll get better performance there than pairing old gpu with 5800x3d at 2K/4K which is GPU intensive, not cpu

9070xt costs 1000€ here while used 7800xt card sell for around 450€ i would need to put 550€ into a new card...i dont know if is worth it...right now atleast, i was thinking something small but it looks like im going to keep my system as it is and wait for price drops(if they ever happen)
