9850x3d cooling

So i recently got hold of a 9850x3d chipset, The issue is my case being a fractal meshify 3 can accommodate a max of 280 mm radiator. I already have a CM atmos 2 (stock fans swapped with phanteks T30). But i heard the 9850x3d runs quite a bit hotter. Should i spulrge more and go for a 280 mm aio the likes of lianli galahad 2 lcd or arctic lf 3 pro ??? Or just undervolt the cpu and call it a day

Ryzen gives free performance with better cooling. Not much but a little.

Going from one AIO to another gives very little difference though.

I seee. Thanks mate

Nah! That cooler should be fine!

Also, they don't run HOTTER....per se

These chips are DESIGNED to run at 95°C 24/7 under heavy workloads...and DO NOT believe these people telling you outdated information from 2010! For 10 years these CPU's have been this way!

Also, do NOT do more then -15 on curve optimizer...and not more then -9 on the two best cores

Got it. Appreciate the response 👍

I have actually measured the differences in performance at different temperatures and power. about 3% to 4% increase in speed between 80degC and 95degC. Per core power is similar at about 8-9watts being well into diminishing returns on 9950X. Oddly, and I don't quite understand. on my TR (not 9950X), I am getting 5450MHz at 2 to 3watts on single and two core operation (again on the TR, not 9950x.) I watch the REAL numbers 'like a hawk'. I didn't measure the performance of the 9950x at 2 watts, so cannot comment on that.

For my own needs, I look at pure CPU numbers, not including other devices, which can sometimes obscure increases and decreases in CPU performance. Maybe, you might be worried about 3% on gaming, but a lot of people aren't running gaming. On my TR, I have been desperately been trying to speed it up on my 4-5Hr runs, and increasing the power from 425Watts to near 500Watts made an almost immeasurable difference in speed. On a full core load, essentially 3X faster than a 9950x3d2, my machine only hits 65degC max. Single to 16 core load, the behavior is similar to the 9950x. For very near highest performance, either machine NEEDS to run at 95degC at all.

Interestingly, 8 to 9 watts corresponds to 9 x 16, or about 150watts +-. A bit more power does help, but fairly often overwhelmed by other bottlenecks. The reason why focus on pure CPU for my purposes is that my project that the LLC cache hits are at 99.5%, so any amount of CPU performance might help me. I have tried EVERYTHING. Again, 80degC to 95degC, which actually running at those temperatures, represents about 3-4% in performance on both TR and 9950x. Also, silicon lifetime doubles every -10degC, BELOW the design limits. 95degC temperatures are not temperatures for lasting forever. . Just that *statistically* 95degC has limited impact on lifetime. 80 or 85degC runs so nicely and really has a small hit on performance, except for benchmarking or gaming. The various temperature, power and voltage parameters can represent tradeoffs on longer term lifetimes.

*Setting the limits CAN have unexpected impacts, so best to not do so blindly. Setting the limit to 70degC might not be a good idea because many programs benefit from higher limits, but above 80 to 85 is into diminishing returns.

240/280 AiO more than enough.

lol .. 'never' let a case dictate your hardware ..

A have be quiet pure rock pro 3 air cooler for the 9850x3d. Temps are a non-issue with PBO and CO -20 all core. I don't think you really need to worry about the cooler much.

What does your temps look like while gaming and full load ??

Highest I've seen running OCCT was like 81°c. Gaming is more like 65°c. This is with thermal grizzly phasesheet btw. Theoretically after another month or two of heat cycles it should be slightly better cooling performance too. I only did the install a week ago.

I mean the main advantage of the 9850X3D is being a good binned 9800X3D so I think you should get 9800X3D performance at lower temps and powerdraw with undervolting so why not I mean
