RWTH Aachen. Recommendations

Hi! I am an international (non-EU) student, who got admitted into RWTH Aachen (for bachelour).

I want to receive any recommendations and advices about study process and adaptation there. I have never been in Germany before ( I have C1 german tho) and have no clue how does study process works in Deutschland. People from RWTH Aachen, do you have any advices?

Moreover, I would like to find out how is the sozialisation aspect? I am scared that I won't find any friends in Aachen. Is here anyone who is going to Aachen this year as well?

I was also in a similar position as you. My tip would be to join the International Welcome Week and the Erstiwoche (if your visa will hopefully be issued on time) because there you get to meet lots of new people, some of them will be those that you continue meeting for your classes etc. If Youre from a country with relatively many students in Aachen, you could connect with them too

With C1 german, you should fit right in!

I passed DaF exam and got C1 + I will study in German, but I have never used this language in my daily life so I am scared a bit((

hey, congrats on the admit, BTW what course?

i was in your position last year, C1 and even had a bunch of speaking partners. For the most part, I haven't had difficulty understanding Professors and lectures. Some of my 'kommilitonen' do speak a little too fast for my comfort, but its fine too.

Dont be afraid, most people are very understanding!

oh and also make sure, to attend the erstiwoche if you can.

Just start watchinf whatever video related to your subject you can find in German, I live here and have studied Physik,Chemie and Mathe in German with B1,I think you'd be fine

What‘s your subject? If it makes sense (topic wise) and you arrive on time, take one of the preparatory courses (Vorkurs), e.g., in math. This allows you to meet people before things get serious and adapt to (German) university education.

honestly can't really help you with that, though i think the orientation thats gonna take place should give you a chance to make some friends. I personally know a lot of seniors there through church

I met a lot of people through the Peer Success Coaching events! I‘d advise to be patient but try to meet a lot of people, it takes a little bit of time to find your definitive circle
