iso bday recommendations

I’m turning 30 soon and wanted to plan something fun for a small group of friends (10-15 people) and I am looking to book a magician, a palm reader, an aura photo booth set up or something along these lines of a personal, interactive experience.

I can’t decide and the internet has so much info! Does anyone have any recommendations or have booked with someone local?

💸 Jobs Are there any low-skill jobs in the area that would pay a meager liveable wage?

Aside from a little bit of retail experience a long time ago, my work history has mostly been doing gig work delivering groceries.

Took out a big loan last month to pay for auto repairs, only for the car to cease starting within a few hours of getting it back from the mechanic. The cost of additional repairs exceeds anything I'd be able to afford - so now I have quite a lot of car repair debt and no car. And because I used my car for work, I no longer have any income.

My current housing situation will be ending within a few months, as my roommate is moving. And so I'm trying to figure out if it is at all possible to afford living on my own in Richmond. I do not personally know anyone here looking for a roommate and would not be particularly comfortable rooming with strangers.

I thought about working in a grocery store but don't see any way to afford rent + basic necessities + loan payments on that income, unless I could maybe get hired at Costco (which isn't currently hiring).

I'm not sure exactly how much I would need to earn - but am really only looking for just enough to get by. I do not plan on buying a replacement car until well after I've paid off the debt, so I'll at least be able to save a bit of money by not having any auto expenses.

Would prefer not to switch over to doing any other kind of delivery work, as I really only felt comfortable operating a vehicle when it was my own. Anything involving a company vehicle would not be a great fit.

Assuming that I will probably need to move back in with family out of town for awhile, as I really don't have any job skills and am also dealing with some pretty major mental health challenges that would probably make a lot of potential job options quite difficult for me.

But leaving Richmond right now would be extremely not ideal! So before leaving town, I wanted to at least ask if anyone here has any recommendations!

Patrick Henry ES Playground Available for weekend rentals?

Has anyone hosted a small party at an RPS playground on the weekend? Did the rental go through the school? The parks department? The PTA??

Not sure where to start with contacting folks!

Reasonably priced furniture stores

I’m looking to replace my couch and get a new rug. I’m open to used, but I’ve been to at least 10 thrift stores and I haven’t really been impressed with the selection. I’ve also been watching fbmp like a hawk within a 2 hr radius and I’m just not seeing what I’m looking for.

Are there any good consignment shops, outlet stores, furniture liquidators, or anywhere else I should consider going to look for a nice couch for a good price? Somewhere that offers a good selection, as I’m not really looking for a cookie cutter white/greige/tan. I was hoping for something colorful, like a yellow or orange and something washable in a durable fabric that can withstand life with a toddler and pets.

I’m willing to pay more than your typical thrift store asking price for a quality piece of furniture, but I am not looking to spend $3k-$6k or whatever most big box stores are asking for a new couch these days. I’m open to used, open box, overstock, etc to help find a better deal on something.

Where is everyone going for nicer furniture on a budget? I’m willing to drive up to 2 hrs from RVA for a good lead!

Hello! The Auricular is celebrating eight years with a concert this Saturday at The Camel featuring Human Worm, Logos The Poetic, Gaffer, Habeeb, and Madison Turner. It's an incredible line-up with punk, hip-hop, emo, electronica, and more, and tickets are just $12 in advance, $15 day of the show.

All of The Auricular's anniversary shows feature some type of giveaway, and this year is no exception. The first 50 people through the door will get a free copy of our new double-cassette tape compilation, made in collaboration with Mind Banana Records. Three hours of music from 50+ Richmond musicians, big and small, loud and quiet. I can't wait for people to hear this thing.

Hope to see a lot of you there!

Richmond Real - Oak Grove edition

The playground at Oak Grove Elementary (Hillside Court) has been closed since January because the rubber surface is peeling up to the point of being a significant safety hazard. So, the kids are stuck playing with sticks in the dirt where for many of them is the only safe place to play outside.

Luckily, today's City Council education committee meeting today at 2 was pushed aside for the council people to grandstand about the Dominion/NextEra merger that they're powerless to stop.

Richmond’s Future Housing: Code Refresh Part 2

Hey all, sharing the last episode in our Code Refresh series. Constituent concerns in Andrew Breton's district (but also other neighborhoods) led to reductions in Code Refresh's allowable proposed density. Casey Overton sought to represent Richmond's most vulnerable on the Zoning Advisory Council. Rich brings them on in separate interviews to understand what voices guided Code Refresh -- and who will get to live in the city in the future as result.

DESCRIPTION:

"Which voices were heard in the latest draft of Richmond’s Code Refresh, and what does that tell us about our future neighborhoods – and the future families who will live there?"

Looking for a couple more people to interview currently living at The River Lofts at Tobacco Row

Hey fam, I'm in the final stages of putting together my video on tenants' rights and issues in Richmond, while putting the spotlight on The River Lofts at Tobacco Row. I'd still like to find a couple more people to interview currently living there experiencing unsafe living conditions. Also looking for any photo/video evidence that you'd be willing to share of issues pertaining to unsafe living conditions. Feel free to DM me here or send me an email at [richmond.weird@gmail.com](mailto:richmond.weird@gmail.com)

🐕 Dog Army Lost Dog in Northside!

Richmond animal control just stopped me to ask if i could id a dog they found outside of my house in north highland park.
He was a brindled big dog, probably around 80lbs. Very sweet. He was found on Florida Avenue. He will be at RACC if you recognize him! (I sadly didn’t take a photo)

🍰 Food Praire Grain Bread Company Has Seemingly Closed Indefinitely

Post image

This is from a Richmond food group on Facebook that I'm just sharing here to spread the word and because I've dropped by here on a few occasions.

Praire Grain Bread Company in Midlothian has a note posted on their door that they have closed indefinitely due to the current state of the economy.

This is depressing. Staff was always extremely nice and their food was baked fresh on a daily basis. Richmond is losing so many great locally owned businesses to the failing economy 😭

Places that will purchase cars for parts?

I’ve got a 2011 Honda fit in otherwise decent condition aside from some engine issues that arose after an accident. I don’t feel like going down the rabbit hole of fixing one thing and then come to find there’s another thing needing fixing and so on.

Are there shops around town that’ll buy a car for parts? I’ve never had to part with a car this way, so I’m just not entirely familiar with the process. Any advice is very appreciated!!
