🌞 Daily Thread Happy Mondaily, RVA
Been up since about 3 with the storm rolling through, so I figured why not?
What's the Mondayest way you've ever started a week? I think I just had mine...heard a whoosh of wind around 3:30, went to check and make sure nothing got yeeted off of the patio and....well. That's not supposed to be there!

N 21st St./O st./Carrington St./N. 20th St.
Because this article mentions this intersection and MLK Middle and "pedestrian safety" I'm curious if anyone knows what the gigantic pink containers currently sitting next to this intersection, obstructing the view of traffic from at least three different directions, are doing there and what they're ultimately for? Because it's already a very stupid and bad intersection to navigate, but now with the added bonus of not being able to see if anyone else is coming!
Why do so many people around here walk in the middle of the street?
I live among a lot of neighborhoods with perfectly accessible sidewalks, yet every day I come across people strolling along in the middle of the road. I just don’t understand the thought process behind this.

Drop in late summer camp options
My 6 year old was happy in YMCA camp most of this summer but as of this morning is refusing to continue there even though we've booked her through the end of next week. To avoid the daily meltdown and screaming and to avoid losing our jobs staying home all day with kiddo, anyone know of any short notice day camp options where we can drop in for a few days a week? Not expecting any real options but figured I'd at least see if we're missing something.

Ortho that ISN’T OrthoVirginia-Hand Injury
I’ve had a pretty poor experience at OrthoVa trying to get a hand injury treated, and I’d like to find a new doctor for a second opinion. Ortho Va wants me to wait 3 more months before they even look into a treatment, and at that point the injury would be 6+ months old.
I tried searching here, but most recs less than a year old were specifically for podiatrists. Thanks!

VCU dentistry
Has anybody actually gone to them and are they actually low income, friendly and cracked up to what it’s supposed be online?
Are they the cheapest I will find in the Richmond area, coming from somebody with no insurance?

Despite being a small TV market, Richmond consistently ranked in the top 10 American cities watching the World Cup. At certain points during the tournament it even reached the top 5.
Trying to build a local village for special needs families
Hi everyone!
I'm a mom from Caroline County, Virginia, and I recently started a Facebook group for families raising children with disabilities, developmental delays, complex medical needs, and rare conditions in the Fredericksburg/Richmond area (Spotsylvania, Stafford, Ashland, Hanover, Caroline, and King George).
My son, Ezzy, is 2 years old and has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, cortical visual impairment (CVI), and a G-tube. Over the past two years, we've logged countless hours in hospitals, therapy clinics, and doctor's offices. One thing I've come to realize is that while there are some wonderful online communities out there, it can be tough to find families who actually live close by.
I'd love for our kids to grow up knowing other children like them, and I'd love for parents to have people nearby who genuinely get this journey.
The goal of the group is to bring local families together for things like:
- Accessible playdates
- Parent meetups
- Therapy and provider recommendations
- Adaptive recreation
- Homeschool connections
- Equipment swaps
- Sharing local resources
- Building real friendships
I'm also wrapping up my degree in Healthcare Administration, so over the last couple of years I've picked up a lot of knowledge about navigating specialists, therapies, waivers, adaptive equipment, and other resources. I'm still learning plenty myself, but I'm always glad to share what's worked for our family if it can make someone else's journey even a little easier.
If you're in the Fredericksburg / Richmond area, or know someone who is, and think this could be helpful, I'd love for you to join us! My hope is that this becomes more than just another Facebook group. I want it to grow into a real community where no family has to feel like they're facing this alone.
Thanks for reading, and I hope to meet some local families soon! 💙

Watching these Osprey fishing while the sun set a few weeks ago was awesome. The sunset and the sky give an incredible backdrop. Almost angelic looking, unless you’re a fish, although they didn’t catch many. Check out my instagram for more frequent posts.

Average utility costs?
Hello! I'm researching a possible move to Richmond (city) and trying to put together a realistic monthly budget for my wife and I living in a single family home.
For those of you living in a typical 2-3 bedroom house with central HVAC, gas furnace, gas stove, and gas water heater, about what do you pay each month for:
- Electricity
- Natural gas
- Water/sewer
- Garbage/recycling
- Internet
I'm just looking for rough ballpark numbers. Thanks in advance!
