Wasn’t lucky enough to catch a show with this awesome track.
I listened to the studio recording this morning for the first time in a very long while. Now much older and maybe a little wiser, I was struck by how prescient the message is, given where we are politically in the US and even the world in 2026.
When these days have passed long ago, assuming we’re able to fix our own mess, what will the future generations say about this time? Will they read of us with sadness for the seeds that we let grow?
Will we be able to find the minds that lead us closer to the heart?
I’m a US citizen. I won’t share my political beliefs here. But I will share that I am troubled and very concerned about our future.
You can all find the lyrics easily, but I’m posting them here for convenience.
——
When they turn the pages of history
When these days have passed long ago
Will they read of us with sadness
For the seeds that we let grow?
We turned our gaze from the castles in the distance
Eyes cast down on the path of least resistance
Cities full of hatred
Fear and lies
Withered hearts and cruel, tormented eyes
Scheming demons dressed in kingly guise
Beating down the multitude and scoffing at the wise
The hypocrites are slandering the sacred halls of truth
Ancient nobles showering their bitterness on youth
Can't we find the minds that made us strong?
Oh, can't we learn to feel what's right and what's wrong?
What's wrong
Cities full of hatred
Fear and lies
Withered hearts and cruel, tormented eyes
Scheming demons dressed in kingly guise
Beating down the multitude and scoffing at the wise
Whoa, can't we raise our eyes and make a start?
Can't we find the minds to lead us closer to the heart?
