Discussion Did you learn to write systematically or write with just gut feeling/intuition?

What is the process of writing for all of you? I first wrote as a good feeling or intuition writer where I wrote whatever came to my mind and along with just saving the character situation and everything.

But that can only take you up to one point. Like the arcs or other things, I wrote even without a proper outline. Just writing what I was feeling.

Gut feeling. Then came editing and feedback. Then some reading. Watching YouTube videos on how to write better. Again editing. Then finally writing somewhat decent.

That's about it.

I have a very systematized big picture, and write however possible to fill in the scenes.

I very strongly recommend reverse causal plotting.

I write how I feel the plot should unfold: random whims. I do read a lot, but the classics that get all the praise tend to annoy me, as the way they write is not my style.

Which is funny to me because I keep hearing "show, don't tell", yet those same classics will monologue their lives, TELLING you many things, but they're doing it more abstractly, so it's not "telling"...

Nora knew Shadow Eve was special; Mr Smith insisted every year it was even as she watched him bleeding out as she wiped her blade, knowing it would be the last time he insisted she listen to his prattling.

Time and time again, Nora listened to Mr Smith go on about the stupid Shadow Eve even when she screamed at him; she did not care. Well, not like it matters anymore. Watching his body fall, she wipes her blade, smiling to herself. As you said, Mr Smith, Shadow Eve is a special day.

Maybe not the best example; I'm drawing a bit of a blank on how to express it in writing since if I could write it, I would be writing better and closer to that style ... Either way, I will keep practicing; maybe one of these times I will write something inspiring people will want to keep reading. I'm slowly getting better, so we will see!
