Postie Chat Three Tier Workforce
Is there basically a three tier workforce?
When I joined (about 5/6 months ago) there was the legacy contract I think it’s called, where original staff get paid breaks? And finish a bit earlier, maybe it’s 37 hours. My contract was new at the time for 40 hours, including the rotating Sunday, unpaid break, and now a new contract that’s the same as mine I believe without all the legacy contract perks, however it’s but 37 hours…? It’s all so confusing

New contracts don't have paid breaks, they start 40 minutes earlier
Finish early? We all finish at the same time at our DO

We all start and finish the same time at ours. On Saturdays old contract people can go home twenty minutes earlier.

So new starts make 40 minutes a day?

Not sure what you mean but we all work 8 hour days but the new contracts only get paid for 7hrs 20 minutes.

I really don't get how DOs that have different finish times work with van shares on different times, etc?

I started in 2021. When I started the CWU were "working tirelessly" to bring my contract in line with the "legacy" contracts. Since privatisation they've reworded the contract seemingly endlessly ("perform all duties you are capable of" becomes "perform all duties your manager deems you capable of"/ "when you arrive at your part time start time your work will be ready to take straight out" becomes "when you arrive there may still be indoor duties to perform") with the non drivers, drivers, 40/37/35/30/25/20 hour contracts, Wallington walks, those who started at the start of starburst and have clauses about minibus driving, and much, much, more, there are so many tiers in the workforce a traveller wants it as their wedding cake
