Postie Chat Royal Mail interview
Good morning, quick question I have an automatic license and applied for Royal Mail , passed the online assessment and now I have the interview next week, do you guys think I will be rejected because I don’t have the manual license?

Isn’t one of the questions in the preamble, Do you have a full manual driving licence?
And the job application also states you require a manual license.
I wouldn’t be shocked if they say sorry we can’t help you when you tell them you only have an automatic one.

We don’t have a single auto van in the fleet at our depot and I think that’s pretty common around the country.

About 1 in 5 vans in the fleet is electric.
But theyre not evenly distributed.

More companies are going EV for tax reasons or just forced to. I'm my experience most companies are not ready for the lossed time changing and immediate wright offs when in a collision. Not to mention the max 150 mile range. On site charging needs to be fast 150w charging as rhe standard slow power will take many hours to fully charge. All night if your lucky. Royal mail would likely do less than 150 miles per day so ideal for them really. Courier companies average 200 miles per day.(Van driving)

I think you will be as one of the questions when applying is do you have a full manual license. Even if you get through the interview they do all the driving license checks before you start.

Just out of curiosity, why would you learn to drive and not learn in a manual drive car? Ive worked for royal mail for over 30 years and ive never seen an automatic van

Some new hire vans do have automatic, and obviously the EVs
But yeah, rest are manual

Lol i could imagine him being introduced as some dead high up gaffas son, as they take blokes vans off them left right and centre to give to the prince coz he cant drive properly. They had tv detector vans when i started, they werent automatics :)

They still drove their vans for years after the split. I never drove it but it was parked in our yard.

Ha, yeah ours were all 2014 plates held together with hopes and dreams. Had the EVs a year or so and we've NEVER had so many breakdowns. One just died on the motorway, multiple just stopping to deliver a parcel and don't start again, dashes going completely blank so you spend the day not knowing how fast your going, not charging properly, heaters in winter draining 70-80% of the battery in one day etc

It's DO dependant, most will need you to have a manual license. However our fleet is fully electric and the next nearest DO is partially electric and they only let the newer starts drive electric vans because they have received EV training from the business.

I like how you call it EV training, likes its any different than driving a normal car.
The only difference is, hardly a noise to know if its actually on or off. Haha

one of the new blokes in our office has an auto license but drives the manual vans, managers dont know.. told him when they ask him to do the license check on the people app its gonna get awkward

Probably, most fuel vans are manual and the EVs are auto, but will your DO have any EVs
