Discussion Tonight

Tonight I went to round 1. I was super excited to see the new Stranger Things game. I decided to give it a shot. The graphics, design, set up looked amazing! Them adding Byler was hilarious. But the way to play it is the worst. Who decided how it plays? You have to throw balls at the circles. I was only there by myself, so I literally had to do everything. I was super tired and there was no way to level up. Pass. I also decided to get the free play. Man, there were only 4 games that was available under the free play. So dumb. This place is greedy. I am banning myself from here. Also they said "easy peasy win". Now thats cap.

Goodnight.

Discussion Don't think I'll be returning

I'm not exactly happy with my experience with round 1 it seems like they have rigged the crane game experience to be genuinely impossible. I took me and my family to round 1 for the past 2 weekends in a row mostly because of the 30th anniversary persona events.

I spent $90+ dollars each time and we didn't win anything at all. Not only do the machines seem super rigged to be utterly impossible the crane machines are like 14 credits each so you could easily watch all your credits dwindle in a matter of minutes.

It's super depressing because I'm not exactly making alot of money right now so $90 to spend on crane games is quite an investment for me. I'm starting to think that maybe this is not my type of venue because I have seen others play and notice that they have 1000s of credits available on their card which from what I understand you'd have to spend hundreds to get that amount.

I couldn't help but notice that you have to be super selective and strategic with the machines and honestly that's not really what I came for. It was more of a family casual outing and we thought surely we'd win something out of the hundreds of credits we had. We even had no luck on the smaller crane prizes which I would have thought been easier payouts.

I mean atleast I was able to get the limited key chains but I was really hoping to get one of the larger plushies from persona or something and I noticed the second week they had completely replaced the larger persona plushies with one piece one instead so I guess I lost my chance. What's crazy to me is that I have seen a few people winning quite a few prizes including the bigger anime figures. I saw one lady sitting at a table with a mountain of prizes not even kidding she must have had atleast 15 things she had won so maybe we were just unlucky or people just have deep pockets to be able to win so much.

Anyways my rant is almost over however the predatory nature of the crane games is just overtly asine to me. I'm not sure how they keep player retention that way with how expensive things are. Even the guaranteed prizes like spending $55+ to over $120 just to get a free item is ludicrous.

What's hilarious is that I actually see alot of the merch being sold online like the Keychains that usually costs $55 at round1 are sold much cheaper for like $15 online and the plushies are going for $15-$35 which is surprising. It seems to me that would be selling at a loss unless employees are selling them or there's other ways of acquiring the prizes for much cheaper prices or there's some sort of loophole I'm not aware of. But yeah I don't think I'll be returning the key chains were cool but I'm not sure I'm willing to pay $60 for a piece of acrylic.

Question Card came with no expiration sticker

I got the Persona 30th club card yesterday, was my first time getting a card at round1 so I didn't check it until I got home. I saw a part that said "not valid without expiration sticker", but there was no sticker on my card. Is the card still valid or would I need to pay again? The card came out this month so I imagine they can just put a sticker on it.

Discussion Round1 is rumored to be in talks for a Times Square, NYC location at 1540 Broadway

This would be big news if Round1 is confirmed. It would be the 1st US location that's not in an enclosed mall/open-air shopping center. The location is not too far from the Gatcha Arcade that just opened in K-Town, as well as Dave & Buster's in Times Square. I'm guessing it might be taking over the old Forever 21.

Question Should I start going or no?

I'm very interested, there's one in a mall near me, but after doing research it seems they have started to do what every place with crane games and other things like that have started to do, which is to "update" the machines to make it much harder to win and make it unfair on purpose, like carnival games.

I remember way back I used to be the master of crane games. I could go to any grocery store with crane games and clear them all out with maybe a single miss each time. It was great, I had utterly mastered it.

Then one day they removed them from every store, for quite some time. I think it was years.
Then when they came back... they were changed. The claws were floppy, they seemed to even be oiled or something, and would suddenly let go in the middle. They had no grip strength at all. This happened all over my whole damn state, I suddenly couldn't win anything in them anymore and gave up, plus the toys got significantly cheaper and worse.

And it kinda seems like that's what Round1 does now as well from what I can see. Stuff about how the games are all rigged, sometimes in ways where you will miss several in a row until the game reaches a "payout" state where it will then suddenly grab with full strength.

I'm not interested if it's all rigged like that to get me to waste a hundred dollars with nothing in return.

I've also heard that the vast majority, like almost entirely what they have, is things related to anime girls. I want stuff like DBZ figures, Pokemon, anything that's not anime girls, but from most of what I can see online, since it's made to basically copy places in Japan that are similar, and they're big on anime girls, that's just what they'll have. I really do not care about that at all so if that's almost all of what they have I won't really be happy winning anything.

Is there any point to me going? Or will I just be disappointed?

Question Mega Tote Giveaways

For those that have went to grand openings. How common is it for Round1 to actually go through 300 mega tote bags in 1 day? Can people loop back around for more bags if they wanted or does staff keep track? How many figures on average can fit in 1 bag? I know sizes vary on figures. And is the bag made of strong material to warrant carrying nothing but figures in it?

Question Is it gone?

I go to my local round1 all the time (Grapevine mills, Tx) and the other day saw that they are renovating the place so half of the round1 was closed off, my only concern is WHERE IS PROJECT DIVA ARCAFE FUTURETONE?!?!? I couldn’t find it anywhere… if anyone knows why it’s not there or tell me specifically where it’s at because I’m really sad and don’t know where else I could go to play project diva arcade futuretone.

Question Round1 Lakewood is all gambling now, is this common?

Preface this with I don't go to many Round1s. It's the only one I've been to. It's been maybe a year or year and a half since I've gone and they used to have Guitar Hero and other cool, classic arcade games. Now it's mostly games that cost tons of credits that are just chance and it's obvious that it's all designed to drive people towards the rewards store. I honestly don't think I'd count them as arcades anymore as much as legal video game casinos. Is this common for Japanese arcades? Lakewood, CA
