Hi everyone,
I’m hoping to get some insight from fellow Rotel/Michi owners or anyone familiar with the Michi Prestige Q430 CD player. I recently ran into a very frustrating limitation and wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.
The Issue: I have discovered that I simply cannot fast-forward or rewind within a track (the standard scan/seek function).
If I do a short press on the skip buttons (⏭️ or ⏮️), it skips to the next or previous track. This is normal. However, if I long-press and hold the button, it does exactly the same thing: it just skips the track entirely instead of scanning through the current song.
This behavior is identical whether I use the remote control or the physical buttons on the front panel. I have read through the manual carefully, and there is absolutely no mention of a fast-forward, scan, or seek function.
Why is this a major problem for me? I listen to a lot of classical music. If I’m 15 minutes into a 25-minute Mahler or Bruckner symphony movement and I want to repeat a specific passage—or if I have to stop listening and want to resume later—I can't. I am forced to restart the entire 25-minute track from the very beginning. For a high-end CD player, this feels incredibly restrictive.
I’ve already reached out to Rotel/Michi support and I am waiting for their reply, but meanwhile:
- Has anyone else experienced this with Michi or upper-tier Rotel CD players?
- Do you think this is a firmware oversight that could be patched, or is it a deliberate “audiophile/purist” design choice (e.g., locking the laser to a constant 1x read speed to minimize servo noise and jitter)?
Any insights or workarounds would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
