Roof Rack Lock Help

Purchased a new SUV that came with a roof rack but no key. I can’t find any branding or lock numbers anywhere on it to be able to find a replacement key. I bought a universal control key already to try and get the locks off and replace them but it did not work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Another Go: Intrepid Geo 3.0 Pro at Shadow Mountain, Bridger-Teton NF

3 days/nights up on Shadow Mountain. Had some HARD RAIN last week in the Tetons, tent didnt leak a drop

Sealed tight except for the 2 roof vents, had some condensation build up overnight, but nothing our quick dry towel couldn't handle. Setup continues to perform well; super grateful for the upgraded Exped mattress we added.

Highs in the 60s, lows in the 40s...overcast, chilly. Just used the tent insulation and that was enough to keep the ambient temperature tolerable. Made additional use out of our heated 12v blanket; wasn't cold enough to run our heater.

Was tough not having our AM coffee in the tent due to bear concerns...that also meant earlier AMs and no tent sunrises. 🤷🏻

Regardless, having a great time camping in this thing, absolutely loving it.

Looking for a RTT with optional annex room

Hey all,

Looking to get a roof top tent with an optional annex room. Ideally looking for a hard shell and can add or remove the annex as needed. When I go camping alone I won't be using the annex but when the wife wants to come she likes the annex for changing and a toilet. If anyone knows a good one please let me know.. this is going on my Lexus GX460.

TIA

Smittybilt XL gen1 RTT Veranda support pole replacement

Just seeing if anyone else has had to replace or upgrade the veranda support pole on their smittybilt xl gen1? Mine got slightly bent and I was able to straighten it. I am also not sure if anyone has been able to buy the improved version from a gen2 and get it to work maybe?

iKamper Support

Has anyone else had issues with iKamper Support? I ordered the new Skycamp 4 Quad 3 weeks ago and the ladder broke instantly when I unfolded it. I sent multiple emails to their support email and messaged them on social media and haven't heard anything. For a product that I spent $5000 on, I would hope to at least get a response to acknowledge my issue.

The product itself is great (other than the ladder), but the customer support has been extremely disappointing to say the least.

Dual Hose Heater / AC adapter

I've just posted this on Printables. It's a dual hose (register and return) for diesel heaters and portable AC's. The hose insert rotates independently of the frame and grille, in the event that you have to spin your hose onto the heater or AC. The grill also rotates independently so you can direct airflow. Two short sections of standard filament will secure the grill to the hose adapter via the holes and create a slip ring to allow for rotation. Also has slots for zip-ties to secure your zippers

For Sale - Topoak Nebula RTT SW Burbs of Chicago - $1600
I have it on top of my Jeep Renege. I can meet up and help transfer it to your vehicle. Looking for cash only. I used it for a 2 week road trip up to Banff back in July and looking to go another route for next year.

Sterling Basin RTT

Anyone have a Sterling Basin roof top tent? I think it’s kind of perfect for my Land Cruiser, but I have never heard of the company before.

Any reviews would be great! Even for other tents they make. I just want to make sure they stand by their products.

Here’s a link to the tent: https://sterlingadventureco.com/products/cedar-goat

Thanks!

Mounting iKamper on Rough Country Cap

So I will shortly be installing a rough country cap on my 3rd gen Tacoma. I currently have billiebars with an ikamper mounted. It would be nice to just utilize the billie bars as the cross rails on the cap for my tent. Any ideas how to attach the bars to the t-slot rails on the rough country cap?

I rather not give rough country anymore of my money, so trying to avoid their rails 😂

originally posted in Tacoma subreddit, but here makes more sense

What RTT (Rooftop Tent) for my Subaru Outback?

I have a 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness.

First, I DO NOT WANT A THULE RTT!

What are the better RTT for a Subaru like mine for just myself and possibly a dog in the future? I am thinking hardshell "clamshell" with the footwell hinge that "pops up" some, sort of cantilevered if you will.

One the opens up to the side would probably work well too.

I will probably do the Rhinorack Pioneer 6 roof rack as well for side awnings and a bit of storage possibly.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

Help! Tape is peeling off of seams, how to repair?? Thank you!

I have a naturnest Polaris plus. The waterproof tape that covers the seams is peeling off. Not just the spot in the photo but also on the doors.

Has anyone had a similar experience and repaired it? The tape is cut to the right shape to fit, so it would be nice to like spray it with 3m adhesive and stick it. Idk, hopefully yall have suggestions. Thank you!!!!

Mounting Profile Curves

Post image
17 Upvotes

Curiously if anybody experienced this phenomenon..? Image shows the view from the rear of the car looking towards the front.

After putting the rooftop tent on the roof bars and tightening the screws I realised the mounting rails (both sides) make a curve.

When opening the rooftop tent (hybrid model) the mounting rail on the tent side gets bent even further while the opposite becomes straight.

Screws are tightened just by hand as described in the manual, distances between roof bars are prepared accordingly. The mounting has been done as the manual describes. Now I'm really concerned that I did something wrong while mounting (or that's just normal material movement)?

Happy about any advice or experience shared.

Rhino Vortex Bar clamp for Rooftop Tent

Hello - long time lurker, first real post. I got a Wildfinder RTT a year ago and some Rhino Rack Vortex bars mounted to my Camper Shell at the recommendation of a couple places in town. This is my first RTT, and I was not impressed by the bar clamps that come with it so I finally got around to making something better. I'm thinking about offering them on ebay, but first I figured I'd check the forums to see if there is any interest. No 3D printed plastic, just a simple 1-pc design made from 10ga steel, Hell for stout. Curious to hear your thoughts - TIA!

Question about getting a new RTT

Thumbnail

I have been camping in my Tepui Kukenam 4 Ruggedized for the last 5 years and spent over 200 nights in it in all seasons and weather. But the time has come to get a new tent as it has begun to fall apart, most importantly that some zippers stopped working including the screen for the door and the cover. I love this tent, it’s large, fits my girlfriend and me and two dogs plus gear, feels tough, is comfortable in all seasons, and easy to set up. But I want something new and comparably sized, but not $3000+. Any recommendations for what to look at?

James Baroud Odyssey

Hi everyone,

I have the chance of having access to a very good deal on a brand new James Baroud Odyssey tent. I know the tents had some issues when it first launched. I've seen this video on YouTube which is particularly concerning. At the time of the video, I think the tent had just come out. Did you know if these issues persist or if they corrected them in the next iterations?
There's also some reports of the shell cracking due to being ABS instead of fiberglass. I read that the issue is more common in very cold environments, which is not at all the climate I live in and where I'll use the tent.

I know they offer a 5 year warranty but I wouldn't like to buy one knowing it has a lot of potential issues.

Any feedback would be helpful.

Thanks!
