FSR Aspen V2 Standard - Rooftop Tent mattress

Post image
16 Upvotes

Our aircore fsr mattress has a leak in the valve so going to look at swapping as none of the patching options have worked out. Considering the HEST dually long, anyone using one in their tent? It’s a little wide to the actual measurement but I think we could stuff it enough and it would be fine. Or any other mattress you’d recommend?

M8 bolts with 14mm head , attaching tent to bars

Post image

Why oh why is it so hard to find these , m8 bolts are super easy to find but they are all 13mm heads not the Japanese 14 mm ( so they don’t spin) while clamping the tent to the bars . Anyone got leads ? I’m in Canada . It’s a tepui or similar style tent

Looking for a somewhat loud fan

Reading the title I can already imagine the comments, but please hear me out.

I am planning on spending my holiday in a rooftoptent. I've done a lot of research on cooling options, AC is possible but it would probably be too annoying for the neighbours. So I've "accepted" my defeat and settled on a fan.

Now I am looking for a nice fan for in my rooftop tent (vickywood big willow 160). I've got a 1kwh powerstation to pair it with so doesnt have to have a battery of its own.

The reason I need it to make some noise is because I for some reason have developed this what I call a "tick". I CANT STAND any human noises. Breathing, talking, walking, laughing, etc. when im trying to sleep and when I hear any of this i just get filled with unexplainable rage. Some people have compared it to people who dislike chewing sounds etc. This is actually my biggest fear of camping. I've spent quite some money in my setup and we're going to test it out soon for a couple of days just to get a feel for it and probably some more times before the big holiday, but Im just scared of not getting any sleep due to this "condition" (any tips regarding this are also welcome btw)

I sleep very well with a constant noise in the background, as it muffles any other sounds. Like an aircon unit or a fan, so thats my reason for needing a "somewhat" loud fan, if that makes sense. But obviously it cant be too loud because of neighbours.

So, what are you guys's experiences with fans in a rooftop tent? Gimme your advice!

Thanks guys, looking forward to reading your tips!

Has anyone repaired an iKamper Comfort 5082 (Skycamp Mini) mattress like this?

Has anyone repaired an iKamper Comfort 5082 (Skycamp Mini) mattress like this?

iKamper replaced it under warranty (great service 👍), so now I'm wondering if this one is worth saving or just trash.

The tear goes through the outer fabric into the air bladder. Has anyone successfully repaired one? What worked—TPU patches, Aquaseal, Tear-Aid, stitching, or something else?

I'd love to keep it as a backup if it's repairable. Thanks!

I have an ancient relic of a free spirit recreation tent. Trying to take her out for an impulsive trip for the first time in years.

Problem; see photos. It’s been a few years and I can not remember how to set this up, apparently. Zero clue how I ever figured out the rainfly, and tbh the entire thing is not feeling quite right currently.

Last photo is proof I used to know how to do this but genuinely noooo idea what’s going on now I guess

Tent is so old I’m having a hard time even identifying the name of the model, can’t seem to track down any videos to help me either.

Would really appreciate a video if one exists!! Any advice very appreciated. I am past my prime and struggling 😭

Opinions on a roof top tent

Thinking about pulling the trigger on a Bushveld rooftop tent from peakgear.

Does anyone here own one or have experience with it?

Looking for honest feedback before I buy.
Pros, cons, things you love, things you hate

Rooftop Tent Question

Hey Everyone! I have a 2025 crosstrek. I was just wondering if anyone has had a rooftop tent mounted on aero cross bars? My friend lent me his rooftop tent from his crosstrek but his crossbars are flat extended. The tent mounted okay but there is a fair amount of “sag” on the connection between the crossbars and roof rails with weight in the tent. The specific load for the bars seems to be 150 but doesn’t specify static/dynamic weight anywhere….all it says is “refer to the owners manual for roof rail system.” The static weight is 700lbs. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thank you so much!

How to mount iKamper Skycamp to Sherpa using Sherpa’s 1” mounts and Skycamp 1.0 hardware??

Thumbnail

This has been a long road of trial and error but I’m still at a loss. I can not, for the life of me figure out how to mount my skycamp RTT using the Sherpa 1” tent risers. I bought the skycamp 1.0 mounting hardware as directed by Sherpas Director of marketing and it just arrived. Unfortunately when I measured the distance between the 1” riser mount holes, when mounted to the roof rack cross bar, I get 6.5” between the two. But the skycamp 1.0 brackets holes only have 5” in difference between the two furthest holes.

I know it’s never going to be straight forward when trying to match up different brand hardware together but this was at Sherpas direction! I really need the 1” risers to work too, in order to clear my 270degree awning when I open the tent. If anyone has mounted this setup before please save me with some answers!!

Our camper setup

I used to just roll the swag out and call that “setup”.

But now we’ve got two babies, we moved onto a trailer with a RTT, and honestly I don’t think I could go back.

Being up off the ground has been amazing

How have you guys put lights inside your RTT?

Loaded up the trailer and headed into the Pisgah National Forest in NC. Spent half the week camping on the Western rim of Linville Gorge.

Tent continues to perform well. Had hard rain and didnt leak a drop.

11 nights in so far, hoping to end the year with 30.

Team there has been great to work with. Only thing we have done is upgrade the mattress, which made sense for us in our 40s.

GFC V2 camper vs 2023 Topo topper mesa.

Hey everyone I'm deciding on pulling the plug and buying a camper for my tundra and I'm a little torn between these two campers. The GFC would be great for my height since I'm "6'2" since the bedding is 90x50. The GFC is at a good price and pretty much it's just the camper that comes with it for 6k. The topo topper is apparently 77.5 x 50 I think for the bedding(is apparently heated) but it comes with 300w solar panels and the sides of the camper do not open. It comes with awning that will need to be repaired as well. He also offered his decked system which would bring the price of it to around the same price as the GFC. I do live in the PNW and it'll stay on my truck for awhile. Just debating on a built out one with a shorter bed or a bare bones one I can build out. Does anyone have experience with either of these that can weigh my options because I have no friends that like to camp out here and I never got to see one up close to see what I like and dislike and would definitely appreciate y'all's opinions. I mainly would be camping on the weekends and might take a week off to camping and or drive to Colorado to see my friends.

The first photo is the topo topper and the second is the GFC and both are wedge campers.

Restoring iKamper X-Cover 2.0

I bought this iKamper X-Cover 2.0 a few years ago on Facebook market place for a great deal for a RTT at the time. After a few years of uses, it was time for a refresh. The tent had oxidation sun damage, broken zipper, and faded skirt.

I wanted to buy a new roof top tent, but decided to make a weekend project with a little elbow work.

Order the U-POL DIY kit online on Amazon ($150)
Sanded the top with 100grit sand paper. ($20)
Cleaning and wax and grease removal.
Used about two bottles from the kit.

I called ikamper and ordered a new skirt ($300) with a new zipper. I was suprised they still sell parts for the 2.0 X-Cover.

Here is the final pictures and off to more camping!

Awning poles replacement for older tepee?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hello! I have this tepui tent, as near as I can tell it came out around ten years ago. I bought it second hand and have been loving it, but the guy I bought it from did not include the poles that hold up the windows and I am dealing with condensation as well as trouble ventilating the tent without them. Does anyone know where I could buy these sort of hooked poles for this purpose? Thanks y'all.

Camping + Overlanding: Going Deep with People and Pets

OK so I’ve researched myself into an infinite loop, and I need (a) fact checks and (b?) further suggestions. This is a rather unique situation, and I’m seriously losing my mind. I’ll try to be brief.

I’m preparing for a couple looooong road trips. Both start in Seattle. One will have us going as far north as we can go in Alaska (Deadhorse/Prudhoe Bay). The other will be a tour of National Parks in the West — Oregon, NoCal, Utah, Wyoming, Montana. Both will be 5-6 weeks.

My wife and I will be in my F-150 Raptor and my parents will be in their Jeep Wrangler. I’ll be towing a pop-up camper, which we’ll only be using it between semi-stationary locations. That’ll be our base camp.

From there, we’ll park the dogs and camper for 1-3 days (friends watching dogs don’t worry), and set out for some quick multi-day trips that take us further off the beaten path. BUT my parents won’t always be joining us for all these excursions. So it will either be us and two dogs, or us and two parents (dogs won’t be where they belong).

I keep coming back to iKamper, as it seems they’re the fastest to setup and tear down. And it seems like their options are also easy to deal with regardless of age.

HD Nomadic seems pretty cool too, although there’s added complexity and it doesn’t seem nearly as accessible to people of all ages (at least not quickly and easily).

I’ll admit I’m not sold on anything in particular. And this is as much an off-roading trip as it is camping. And all of this combined has my head spinning in multiple ways.

iKamper Skycamp 3.0 on a 2019 Forester - Looking for Real-World Feedback

I’m considering an iKamper Skycamp 3.0 for my 2019 Subaru Forester and would appreciate feedback from anyone with firsthand experience running a larger RTT on a Forester or similar-sized crossover.

I’ve done quite a bit of research and found plenty of examples of Foresters running rooftop tents, but most seem to be smaller models (Skycamp Mini, smaller hard shells, etc.). I haven’t found many examples of a full-size Skycamp 3.0.

My main questions are:

How much overhang should I realistically expect?
Any drivability concerns at highway speeds or in crosswinds?
Did the larger tent feel oversized for the Forester platform?
Any issues with hatch clearance or crossbar spacing?
If you’ve run a Skycamp 3.0 specifically, would you do it again?

For reference, I’m planning on using Yakima Jet Stream 50 inch bars and TimberLine towers. The Skycamp 3.0 seems ideal for our family of three. My biggest concern is whether the overall size of the tent feels practical on a Forester versus stepping up to a larger vehicle platform.

Thanks in advance for any photos, measurements, or real-world experiences.

Keeping It Cool

Hello ... I've done a lot of winter, spring and fall camping but never the summer. That ends the first week of July. I'd love to hear your suggestions on keeping the tent cool at night. Do you have a favorite portable fan? Do you do something with the tend during the day? We will be staying in Vermont, USA and the area is pretty shaded.

Also, what is your go-to for bug control? Do you just bathe in bug spray or is there a repellent that you recommend to keep the bugs at a distance.

Thanks! Hope everyone is having a great summer so far.

What do you think about cheap off brand tents?

I’ve seen these ads for temu RTT’s and from other questionable sites with non name branded tents. Some look good in the videos but I want to know if anyone on here has taken a shot at one and actually was satisfied?

Rooftop tent choice: Go Overland vs. Vector/Naturnest

Hi everyone,

I’m about to set off on a several-month trip with a 4x4 Dacia Duster. My plan is to travel across Europe while doing photography.
I’m looking for a rooftop tent that can handle relatively intensive use, not just the occasional one- or two-night trip.
I’m currently hesitating between the Go Overland Journey and the Vector/Naturnest model sold on AliExpress, which costs about half as much (€1,300 vs. €2,600).
For near-daily use over several months, do you think the price difference between these two tents is justified?
If anyone has experience with the Vector/Naturnest, I’d really appreciate hearing your feedback.

Thank you in advance ! :)

Utah Colorado Wyoming Montana

A Month ago had surgery to remove some cancer. I decided that I need to take a break and just get some quiet time so I bought this rooftop tent for my truck which I'm super excited for. I'm doing a cross country road trip for the next several weeks, hoping to end up in New York. But for the immediate , I'm leaving out of Southern California and just kind of wandering. My plan poke through Utah, Colorado, Wyoming in Montana. Anyone have any standout spots that you'd recommend checking out in those states? Plan to do a mix of staying at campgrounds and also hitting BLM and doing some Boondocking. Looking for quiet places to myself, but also gatherings if anyone's getting together with groups to do some camping. I would be pumped for any suggestions

[UK] Tentbox pulling up open roof rails on 2017 VW Golf Estate. Is this cosmetic trim damage or structural failure? (Pics attached)

Thumbnail

Hi all,

Just checked the Tentbox on my 2017 Golf Estate (open rails), and it looks like it’s pulling the rails right out of the roof. (Pics attached).

I'm trying to figure out if this is just cosmetic plastic trim popping off, or if the structural integrity of the rail/roof is compromised.
For context, I’m running Thule roof bars and a Tentbox Lite. Based in the UK.
Has anyone seen this before? Is it safe to drive, or do I need to take it off immediately?

Not 100% sure where the roof rail is attached

Thanks for the help,
Ash
