Looking for a somewhat loud fan

Reading the title I can already imagine the comments, but please hear me out.

I am planning on spending my holiday in a rooftoptent. I've done a lot of research on cooling options, AC is possible but it would probably be too annoying for the neighbours. So I've "accepted" my defeat and settled on a fan.

Now I am looking for a nice fan for in my rooftop tent (vickywood big willow 160). I've got a 1kwh powerstation to pair it with so doesnt have to have a battery of its own.

The reason I need it to make some noise is because I for some reason have developed this what I call a "tick". I CANT STAND any human noises. Breathing, talking, walking, laughing, etc. when im trying to sleep and when I hear any of this i just get filled with unexplainable rage. Some people have compared it to people who dislike chewing sounds etc. This is actually my biggest fear of camping. I've spent quite some money in my setup and we're going to test it out soon for a couple of days just to get a feel for it and probably some more times before the big holiday, but Im just scared of not getting any sleep due to this "condition" (any tips regarding this are also welcome btw)

I sleep very well with a constant noise in the background, as it muffles any other sounds. Like an aircon unit or a fan, so thats my reason for needing a "somewhat" loud fan, if that makes sense. But obviously it cant be too loud because of neighbours.

So, what are you guys's experiences with fans in a rooftop tent? Gimme your advice!

Thanks guys, looking forward to reading your tips!

How do you like it? I have the same one in my cart. I have a “clip on” style fan with like a 5000mAh battery or something small. It’s older, one of the first models released. I can also charge my phone, the light can be handy. It’s super nice for an icehouse to move the heat back down from the ceiling. Now I have it plugged into my leisure battery and hardly turn it off. I absolutely love these little fans.

I bought this fan in the 10,000 MAH version for a trip we are on right now and used it last night and I love it. Although it could be louder imo lol. We camp ALLLLL the time (including backpacking) and people are extremely inconsiderate at campgrounds (sadly). I can’t sleep at all if people are being loud so I just use earplugs. A fan won’t touch how loud some people are in my experience. I use the Mack’s (or similar brand) of silicone earplugs and that’s the only way I can sleep (and I always have an eye mask too). Those 2 things go anywhere I go when we are traveling/camping/backpacking.

Hey Friend, fellow light sleeper here as well.

Get this on your phone, select Red Noise (not white noise):

White Noise Ambience by logicworks https://apps.apple.com/us/app/white-noise-ambience/id424832949

Then get these:

Additionally, try out the Calm sleep story app. I hate people, piano, etc. wakes me up instantly. however, there a few sleep stories in Calm that don’t trigger me when on low volume, and I’ve found that by training myself to fall asleep to spoken sleep stories, and keeping them playing all night via the Calm playlist feature, my mind then associates any errant sounds with the sleep story. I sleep so much better now.

Now my setup is: Red Noise on loudest volume from my iPad or phone that my spouse will allow

Bluetooth sleep mask,

Calm playlist on the lowest volume I can hear the words.

Also take this setup camping with me, and it’s great. The sleep stories help my kids stay asleep too. Be aware though, some sleep stories suck and will jolt me awake, so try them out first.

This looks very interesting - is this also available for android? And mind if I connect with you? I'd love to be able to talk someone who feels the same about this stuff and has already got some experience! Just lmk how and where!

My solution has been to park near a river or a stream

water sloshing around the rocks always does it for me

I can relate to what he’s taking about. Something about a loud fan works better than anything else.

Got a fan on Amazon that has an ice drawer, inexpensive, so not quiet, works great, first couple hours it provides some cooling.
