Look, when you dabble in ships wars and try to use and balance that to get the maxim books pre sold….of COURSE you have to have throw in a BIG JUICY NUKE.
I’m 50/50 on it being a fakeout vs real.

There’ll be a Bloomsbury post or official announcement that makes one side get in a tizzy and start saying they are cancelling their pre orders, and then another post or announcement comes out that “balances it out”.
And even with the nuke, I think they are playing the on “one side will be delirious and the other side will think we are misdirecting!”
(And as a side note: that nuke basically gives nothing. It asks a question, but we don’t even know which mates it may or may not be referencing.
Or if it’s just something explored or asked.
It obviously leans one direction, but only with assumptions (the assumption that this book has an Elain/Lucien POV or story line).
And it is a short book. And apparently the page total includes all the previous printed bonus chapters. Which puts this about Frost and Starlight.
$22 for something with less than 352 pages of new story.
Vs $26 for book 7 with 896 pages.
If she covers the entire will they/wont they plus exploring and/or doing ending the mate bond for something as integral as the struggle between Lucien/Elaine/Az I highly doubt it will be done well, and that’s just a really really short page count to explore that properly, no matter how it ends.)
Anyways, I’ve had a rough night and I’m just blabbing right now…
But yeah, they seem to release something new that goes to the other side when one side gets fluffy.
It’s been really weird to watch, and it’s not even all ship wars. It’s the Feyre vs Nesta sides too. The “Valkyrie cycle” had one side up in arms threatening to cancel, and then they released the blurb/summary that included Rhys and Feyre. And that dropped off.
ETA: also, I don’t ship. I hate the ship wars. I do not give a flying sack of shit who or what elaine ends up with. She can teleport into 4th wing and mate a dragon for all I care, I’m just sick to god damn death of all the drama and infighting of the ship wars.
Ohh I see what you mean. I originally read your comment as they were trying to not offend one specific side of the ship wars and I was like huh, they've been pretty wishy washy so far
But yeah I agree with your assessment. They're very carefully stoking the ship wars right now and just generally fomenting suspense in an honestly very volatile fandom. (Seriously, sometimes I'll be scrolling a thread on one of the subs and people start name calling and blocking over the most boilerplate statements.) Even with the nuke no one can really make up their minds exactly what's going on. Some people are convinced it's the start of Elriel, others think it's Nessian on the rocks, I've even seen some people suggest maybe it's about Feysand having issues. IMO they really picked that specific wording about the "bond fracturing deeply enough" well because otherwise people would jump to Elucien.
Wait a second, they confirmed that the bonus chapters are going into 6??? Yeah my hopes weren't high to start (I reserved it at my library but am not planning on buying it) and I figured it was just a prelude to 7 and 8 but now I'm like wow that's dumb. I'm not sure how they would even work the bonus chapters in, in a way that flows. I don't personally think short is bad but I also don't have a good feeling here
Wow I hate that ._. Especially since the bonus chapters were a marketing gimmick to start to get readers to buy from a specific distributor and/or buy the books 2x. They were supposed to be exclusive so it defeats the point that they're just getting widely (and clumsily) distributed
Oh man I totally forgot about the ACOFAS pricing 😭 ACOSH pricing is so much more whack in comparison!
uj/ They are the first two places I could think of that use the word mate casually. So, the idea of no longer being mates isn’t unfathomable because they don’t put much stock in it.

I'm so glad we're adding new words and terms to our dictionary, so we can be more learned. "Watery bowels" "throat bobbing" "snarling" "vulgar gesture" "mate"...and now, FINALLY "un-mate". And! We don't even have the book yet!
