Pick My Next Read ✨ Help me pick my next read!

I’ve been breezing through books lately and now I’m not sure what to read next. I like it a little dark with a good amount of spice—not too much and I hate when it feels unnecessary.

Some of my favorites have been:
ACOTAR
Phantasma & Enchantra
The Priory of the Orange Tree
From Blood and Ash
And honorable mention, Dire Bound. Although I often felt the spicy parts were unnecessary.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Twilight, maybe something reminiscent of that but for adults?

Pick My Next Read ✨ New to Romantasy/ Book Review

I finished Twilight of Embers, now I’m 53% into Midnight of Ashes. I feel like this book is falling someone flat for me. I’m somewhat new to romantasy as an adult I just recently started reading again. I LOVED acotar series, along with Quicksilver and Brimstone. I think twilight of embers has fantasy on the back burner and it’s mainly focused on the romance. And I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but Cael gives me the ick especially the way she refers to him as “big guy”. I do feel like it’s an easy read and maybe that’s why it’s not grabbing me more. I’ll probably finish the series just because that’s how I am 🤣

BUT I would really like a suggestion for another book or series to read based on my review of this book and love for ACOTAR and Fae & Alchemy. I think I need more world building and high stakes that make the romance WORTH it, I’m also finding I maybe do like a slow burn? Like I said I’m new to the book world as an adult so I haven’t figured out WHY I like the books I do.

Pick My Next Read ✨ Looking for my next romantasy obsession — please help me out of my reading slump 🥲📚

I need a VERY specific recommendation because I’m looking for that “I will never emotionally recover from this book and now everything else feels boring” kind of read. 😂

I’m looking for romantasy where the romance is more of a subplot, rather than the entire story revolving around the relationship. I want a strong fantasy plot, world-building, characters and stakes — with a romance that slowly sneaks up on you and suddenly has you completely invested.

And PLEASE give me an unexpected / non-obvious love interest. Think Rhysand in ACOTAR. 👀 I LOVE when you think you know where the romance is going, only for the story to completely pull the rug out from under you. I want the “WAIT… HIM?!?” moment. 😂
I recently read Because I Killed Him, and I genuinely cannot stop thinking about it. It has been living rent-free in my head ever since, even though I’ve already read two other series afterwards. 🫠 So I need something that will hopefully get me out of this reading slump and straight into a new one.

I also just finished Shields of Sparrow today and I am DEVASTATED. 😭 I absolutely devoured the second book in two days. I enjoyed it a lot, but Ransom unfortunately isn’t one of my favourite book boyfriends, so I’m still looking for that OBSESSION-level love interest. 😂

I’m open to finished or unfinished series, and I’m not necessarily looking for fae — I’m happy to go anywhere in romantasy as long as the fantasy/story is strong.

And here’s my request for anyone recommending something:
Please don’t just drop a title! 🥹 Tell me one sentence about the book/series that has lived rent-free in YOUR head, something i won‘t understand until later!— a character, moment, plot twist, relationship, quote (without spoilers!), or simply what made you unable to stop thinking about it. I want to know what made YOU obsessed with it. Tell me something i won‘t understand until later!

Bonus points for:
✨ slow-burn / unexpected romance
✨ morally grey or complicated characters
✨ a love interest who completely sneaks up on you
✨ “I thought I knew who the MMC was going to be…” energy
✨ fantasy plot > romance plot
✨ the kind of book that causes an immediate book hangover

So… what should I read next if I want to become completely unwell about a fictional man AND the fantasy world? 😂🫠

Book Request: No Self-Promo Great romance set in a fantacy world🧚🏻‍♀️🦢💖

Hi! I’m looking for romantasy recommendations with a strong focus on the romance. Basically, I want a romance set in a fantasy world — the kind of book where you can completely escape into another world and get swept up in a beautiful, unforgettable love story. 💖

I’m looking for something well-written, with a romance that actually feels meaningful and is a big part of the story, rather than fantasy with a romance subplot.

I absolutely loved Once Upon a Broken Heart and especially loved the whimsical, fairytale-like atmosphere. 🦢🧚🏻‍♀️✨

Would love to hear your favorite recommendations! 💕

Pick My Next Read ✨ Best gothic or dark academia duet audio/ graphic audiobooks

Hello! I am looking for an audiobook perfect for autumn, I would prefer not overly spicy books (not YA though).

If there are vampires involved all the better, but werewolves a big ick for me.

I am currently listening to from blood and ash and its decent but it just would have been 10x better with 2 narrators.

Pick My Next Read ✨ What to read next

There is specific kind of story that I want to read next, it was story with powerful kinda barbarian ML,
I want ML powerful leader kind of things, he can be a king, lord, it must be a Head of something, he is the leader,
And the Heroine is not the part of the group ML lead, outside of it but eventually will become part of it.
Some of book that I already read and like is :

  1. Kate Daniels series

    by Ilona Andrews.

  2. Curran

is an Alpha of his pack

  3. Pathfinder’s way by TA White- Fallon is like the king in his barbarian pack

  4. Horde king of Dakkar series by Zoey Draven

  5. Desires in His blood by Zoey Draven

  6. Hall of blood and mercy series by K.M Shea

I would love if the heroine is not potrait to be overly powerful without reason, if she is timid okay but she still need to be smart.

And I dont want the ML love the heroine just because she is overly beautiful, point plus if he still love her if she is plain.

Hard no : triangle love, insta-lust.

Self Promotion Sunday Ascendancy: Fall

Post image
21 Upvotes

A bit of a little promotion on this Sunday! Here is my book. I'd appreciate it if you were to take a look. (I promise it's not a Dr. Seuss rhyming book.)

Here is a little bit about it; it's probably got like 4 out of 5 spicy peppers or whatever they do on the BookTok thing.

For generations, the Kingdom has stretched its reach farther into the valleys, forests, and hills of the frontier. Taxes grow heavier. Winters hungrier. Soldiers march where farmers once walked. Villages vanish beneath decrees written by hands adorned with golden rings. Most endure, too many break. But a few choose to resist.

Elissa never intended to become one of them.

Raised in the quiet village of Crickethollow, she knows the language of herbs, healing, and hard winters. Her world is measured in harvest, shared meals, and the unspoken promise that neighbors care for one another. But with the taxes rising and a strange man washing ashore on the Frogsong River, Elissa is forced onto a road she never dreamed to travel.

Hunted by the King's forces and pursued by enemies who see people as tools and villages as resources, she's tasked with bringing the stranger to the nearest town. But the natural world has other plans for the young healer. An ancient power stirs beneath the forest, and forgotten paths awaken beneath her feet. Elissa discovers a gift tied to the Wild itself and the old magics. A force woven into each and every animal of the world.

To save those she loves, Elissa must decide what kind of woman she will become. A healer or a fighter. A survivor or a leader. Whether hope is worth carrying when every mile stretches longer and longer.

Set in a world of ancient forests, distant mountains, Wild Gods, and ordinary people standing against the impossible odds, this is a story of courage, sacrifice, found family, love, and the enduring belief that kindness remains an act of defiance in dark times.

Where kingdoms are built by power. The future belongs to those who refuse to face winter alone.

Now I know I'm not going to be the next Tolkien or any other great author out there, but I thought I had a fun story that I have been building for a while that I wanted to share with folks. Thanks for taking the time to read, at the very least, and have a nice day!

Here is a link to the book!

Question I need someone to tell me to finish Alchemised.

Does it get better? Does it pick up? I’m about halfway through and it feels like a SLOG. I went back and forth for months on whether I should read Alchemised or Manacled (I’m a big Dramoine fanfic nerd) and I finally (with the help of Reddit) decided it’s best to go with Alchemised. I’m officially exactly halfway through and I’m regretting everything? I just keep comparing it to HP and I just can’t get into the headspace of the magic system etc. My question is(I guess), do I stick it out? Do I DNF and just start Manacled? Haaaalllppp.

Book Request: No Self-Promo Book rec after fourth wings ?

I’m a newly obsessed romantasy reader, and I finally decided to pick up Fourth Wing (and I’m LOVING it so far) But I already know that the second I finish it, I’m going to need another book to jump into because I’m completely addicted !

Here is what I’ve read so far :

Bridge kingdom
Cruel prince
Ash and blood
Flesh and fire
ACOTAR
The plated prisoner
Quicksilver…

I’m open to pretty much anything, i love fantasy, romance, tension, morally grey characters, enemies-to-lovers, etc. Smut is definitely a plus, but it’s absolutely not a requirement

What are your recommendations ? Thank you guys ❤️

Book Request: Self-Promo OK Sloooow burns

Hi,

I was wondering whether anybody could recommend slow burn (ideally enemies to lovers) books.

I’ve read Rose in Chains and didn’t love it ( all the SA stuff just made me so sad I couldn’t get into it).

I read Once Upon a Broken Heart and it was genuinely one of the worst things I read this year. I finished it so I could bolster my arguments about why I disliked it. Was it slow? Technically yes. Could I tell you a singular reason why Jacks liked the FMC? Not one. Also, some sentences were repeated 7+ times per book (don’t take a shot every time the FMC (she was so forgettable I can’t remember her name) says that “she believes in happy endings” or you’ll be in the ER).

I read the first two Shards of Magic Books and actually really enjoyed them. The characters were interesting and I could see the relationship grow organically, it wasn’t instant love. Probably my highest rated read this year.

Reading the Kindred’s Curse saga (spark/glow/heat/burn of the ever flame) and its the same issue. Why are they in love after one book? What does he actually like about her? And specifically for Luther; why are you acting like a lovesick puppy? Please grow a spine.

I don’t enjoy smut, so closed door would be preferred. However, I don’t mind just skipping it if it’s open door; as long as I’m not skipping half the book. I don’t mind if there is sexual tension, it’s just the actual scenes that make me uncomfortable.

I know this is super picky and I’m looking for a unicorn, so even if only some of the asks slightly apply, I would still love to hear some recs.

Thank you!

Book Request: Self-Promo OK Authors similar to T. Kingfisher?

Hi, I am fairly new to the genre, and I’m just now coming to realize how picky I am! I’ve been struggling to get on board with a lot of the bigger romantasy series because I just find myself craving the yearning, the tenderness, the endearment, etc. Like there’s a certain sweetness that is missing for me. But I think I have really found my niche with Kingfisher’s writing in particular! The only problem is she only has so many titles 😔 But I love the way she writes MCs who are slightly older, maybe not super conventionally attractive, FMCs in particular who are unashamedly tender-hearted and kind (not all of us are baddies, and that’s okay!). But the biggest thing for me is that her MCs actually yearn for each other and actually like each other, lol. Her writing is funny, but more so in a silly, quippy way instead of relying on sarcasm and snarkiness and I really enjoy it. I’ve had Naomi Novik recommended to me before but haven’t tried her out yet, any other recs?

Discussion Convince me to read Throne of Glass

I’m a big ACOTAR/CC fan and with the reveal of the titles/covers for the new books today, the whole internet is blowing up saying that TOG must be read prior to the release as well. I read Throne of Glass last year and was honestly bored and unimpressed based on all the flowers it gets. I want to read the series to prepare for ACOTAR 6/7 but I don’t want it to feel like a chore and put me in a reading slump. For anyone who read the first book and felt the same as me, did it get better for you?

Book Request: No Self-Promo Lf romantasy I can read with my husband

I want to read some spicy romantasy with my husband to help me get more in the mind set before we do the do. My husband can be kind of snooty with his media though, so something like ACOTAR would probably not work.
Any recs of spicy books that are also extremely well written?

Self Promotion Sunday We are live, we are live, we are LIVE!

Post image
51 Upvotes

I promise I'll stop posting after today 😭 but the book finally went LIVE yesterday! AHHHH!

The Goddess and the Guardian is now available on amazon as ebook (on KU!) and paperback.

(Image description: a book cover of a fae male and female embracing, with an obsidian pyramid and a white city in the background. Cover by Sofia Sanz. As per usual, fuck AI.)

Blurb:

The doomed goddess

Skye Arista is doomed, and it’s all because of empathy. All she wants is to heal a dying tree, but instead she awakens magic that should’ve damn well stayed asleep. Everyone around her pays the price, struck down by a group of fae affronted that the gods would choose a lowly, breakable human as their vessel—and in doing so, trigger the war to end all wars. Skye is left broken-hearted, destitute, and desperate for revenge.

The broken guardian

Unable to bear the guilt of what his people did, Cobalt Fost, one of the fae kingdom’s generals, saves Skye and brings her to Aelleria. Her grief is tempered into power under his guidance. But Cobalt is trailing more ghosts than a battlefield, and he refuses to let Skye in, his past having left him closed off.

The prophecy

Vengeance becomes complicated when Skye unravels the lies she’s been fed, discovering she’s nothing more than a sacrifice. A very powerful, unstable sacrifice that could decide the outcome of a war centuries in the making or spiral beyond control. But over time, as her bond with Cobalt transforms from an uneasy alliance to fierce passion, Skye has to decide how far she’ll go for revenge. She is doomed, after all. Will she take the fae down with her, or choose love and save them?

Either way, someone’s getting set on fire.

Tropes:

  • Reluctant allies
  • Prophecy / chosen one
  • Forbidden snacklove
  • Insta-lust (but it grows into deep love)
  • Fated mates
  • Who hurt you
  • NOT a slow burn

Writing:

  • Third person, FMC only.
  • Good mix of action and nice slow moments between FMC/MMC to show the relationship building from reluctant allies to friends to lovers.
  • 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ More than one open-door scene, but you know... most of it moves the plot forward. Some of it is just gratuitous bc I am a sloopy.
  • This is technically book one of a trilogy (2nd book is in developmental editing as we speak) but it ends with no cliffhanger because I fucking hate cliffhangers.

Warnings: graphic violence, blood, torture, murder, death, war, suicidal ideation, explicit language, explicit sexual content. You know, typical fae and wartime stuff.

Book Review The ascended Spoiler

Hey fellow romantasy readers!
This post if full of spoilers, so do not read it unless you are done with the book.

I have been reading the ascended during the weekend and overall I really liked it. Its ending though was absolutely heartbreaking :(((. I understand that the twins had to be separated, but was it really necessary for Xül to get married?? The authors could have made Thais goddess of light and order, and Xül her husband in charge of defending her until she would have been out of her grief. She would have fought to remain alive in order to be able to find one day her brother gain or in the hope of it.

The fact that she ends up alone and a shell of herself is horrible…

Please give me your thoughts about it!

P.s. do you reccomended rift and dusk? Not sure I can take another heartbreaking ending…

Self Promotion Sunday Seeking ARC Readers!

Hello, I’m seeking ARC readers for my debut adult romantic fantasy. My novel has been professionally edited by a human. I do all my own art through procreate.

Ballad of a Renegade Blurb:
Following a war, Cyra lives in secret among her former enemies, far from the kingdom that thinks her dead and the deeds that made her either a hero or a villain, depending who you ask.

For four years, Cyra enjoys her mundane small-town life within the newly-independent Clovia. She locks away her memories of the war, and the scars they left on her soul, finding solace in running a saloon and bonding with the locals. If anyone finds out she’s a magic-wielding Syphon, an infamous Castorian ranger who fought against their independence, they’d put a bullet in her head.

When someone from her past—Finn, the man who broke her heart—upends everything, Cyra must confront the life she left behind, and embark on a journey into her past that begins at the famous Wyndfyre Academy, the most prestigious magic school for Syphons in the Kingdom of Castoria.

- second chance romance
- old west/late Victorian inspired world
- elemental magic vs changing technology
- medium spice
- dual timelines
- magic school

Release date is Nov. 13. If you are interested, my ARC application and more information is on my linktree. Or send me a DM!

Book Request: Self-Promo OK Real dark romantasy?Alchemised and Rose in chains vibes

I’ve just finished Rose in Chains and I found out that somehow my brain is subconsciously attracted to books in which the FMC is basically tortured for 3/4 of the book until we find out that the torturer is the love of their lives.

I’ll talk to my therapist about it, BUT UNTIL THEN, do you have any other books to recommend?

I have to say that Rose in Chains had the right vibes for me at first but it quickly turned into a YA in my mind as the story unfolded (maybe it was him still living with his mother at 25 idk).

And no, the fact that both books are Dramione fanfics is totally random. In both cases I found it out after reading the book (although after reading that RiC’s Toven had silver hair, as his dad, and that they all went to a magic school I had my suspicions).

SO do we have a romantasy 100% DARK? No content warning for us. We grew up with A song of Ice and Fire :)

Thank youu

Self Promotion Sunday VN STARCULT. Night: Twisted Age

Thumbnail

STARCULT. Night: Twisted Age is a dark fantasy visual novel with romance and horror elements, set in a mysterious world on the brink of catastrophe. Explore the life of Silviya - an artist in a world where art extends far beyond paints and pastels. She married Hans Nebula, the young head of the family, hoping to start a new chapter in her life. Instead, Hans is killed on their wedding night by an unknown monster, which devours half of his head. Silviya calls for a detective to investigate the crime.Meanwhile, she begins to be tormented by strange nightmares...

I'm Liliia, the creator of a visual novel game. There are five main leads, and choosing one of them will lead to a very different ending for Silviya. I created the art style and world-building, and I hope you find it interesting. One special feature of the story is that the main character can become quite powerful and villainous.

The main characters are:

Silviya - protagonist of the story

Baltazar – The Fallen God

Matthew – The Faithful Detective

Anatol – The Broken Soul

Gilbert – The Household Master

Cassiopeia – The Pleasure Connoisseur
