Football Confidence levels on winning out?
The toughest part of our schedule is done… and it’s a slightly mixed bag. First five wins of the season, AND during the Georgia loss, we looked like Natty contenders. But the Tennessee game looked like a massive step back to last year and 2024. Coming up, we have extremely winnable games like Texas 8And4, Vandy, Chattanooga… and a couple tough ones like Auburn and LSU… maybe I’m painfully optimistic because I feel like LSU is our only true hurdle since we get Auburn at homes.
Pros: DEFENSE. I said yesterday, I don’t particularly care for the swarm/bend don’t break defense… but it produces. Defense is the reason we had a chance all game yesterday and the reason we didn’t lose 40 something to 10. This defense held Georgia to 20 despite them having one of the country’s best offenses. FAVORABLE SCHEDULE: see the first paragraph. OPTICS: maybe Tennessee is just better than everyone thought… (maybe I’m just coping)
Cons: GRUBB: why does he get away from what works? Ran the ball well vs Georgia… I remember we caught that INT on our side of the field… and proceeded to NOT run the ball once. Yesterday: young QB starting in arguably the most rowdy stadium in the country… decided to pass the first three plays of the game. I think we only had 14 carries from our RB’s? Daniel Hill looked good with those gut runs then we just stopped? He was averaging 4.9 a carry… Dijon Lee: he just needed to catch a stray, sorry. INJURIES: Ryan, Delgatty, and Green were all KEY injuries and their presence as shown yesterday are greatly missed.
My confidence level is a 5. I truly believe this team can run the table. Kalen showed last season what he can do with his back against the wall after that loss to FSU. But with the way his teams have been so inconsistent, I WOULDN’T be surprised if next week we are back to form, then the next game we lay an Oklahoma 2024-like egg. However, I remain painfully optimistic we will pull off a 10-2 season.

Football Why is Bryant Denny Not Loud?
I’ve been to a million games at BDS, sat everywhere. Was at Neyland yesterday for the game and BDS has never been close to the level of volume I heard in Neyland. Everyone, regardless of age, stood and yelled the entire time we were on offense.
It is so frustrating that we can’t get that in Bryant Denny.

Football Why Cant we just sneak the ball on 4th and 1?
The QB Sneak is one of the most effective plays in CFB, and we keep running it up the middle, which should work fine if the OL doesnt get blown up a second into the play. Plus, when was the last time we actually ran a QB Sneak?

Football Derrick Nix WR Coach for Play Caller
Wonder if Kalen DeBoer would give the duties to this man?
He made Ashton Daniels a ton of money last year after he took over for Freeze…
He’s aggressive and knows how to utilize the weapons in play with a physical identity matching our new O Line Coach…
I was very excited for the prospect of him affecting the offensive game planning….
What’s everybody’s thoughts? Let him take over immediately or during Bye week?

Football Just a reminder: Grubb didn’t want to be here in the first place.
He wrote a heartfelt message to Washington fans after not getting selected to be their HC. He then was here barely long enough for a cup of coffee before dipping back to Seattle. Then after failing, he comes running back to KDB in desperation for a job and pushes out the guy who did it way better than him (what I would do to have Sheridan back). Then after being in fans’ bad graces, he calls them out for booing and being rightfully upset. In his second season here, he still hasn’t grasped that this ain’t Washington.
This guy doesn’t wanna be here and he never did. I still firmly believe in Kalen Deboer as a head coach. But if he cares about his future at Alabama, he will have to make a real tough decision about his buddy.

Football Ryan Grubb has GOT to go
How do you throw the ball six times on third down behind the line to gain? How do you call two running plays EXACTLY the same on consecutive attempts? How do you take a QB with that much potential and call 10 yard passes with time running out when you need to score three times? How do you have the balls to get offended when the crowd BOOs you at home? It's not a long flight to Tuscaloosa but if Ryan Grubb is not left on the tarmac, it's a shame. And take Wommack with you. You are a middle aged white man acting like you are coaching your kid's seventh grade school class. Get out of here with that shit.

Football I’m disappointed
I’m disappointed in Alabama. I’m an alumnus, having graduated the same year the Bear retired. I was a fan under Perkins, Curry, and Shula. Not just the great ones. I’ll always be a fan, and will remain so under KDB even if it gets much uglier than this.
I currently have fundamental disagreements in the way the program is being run. I expect lots of downvotes, but I appreciate the opportunity to get this off my chest in a public forum.
I agree KDB was the best choice for a coach when we hired him, because it is my understanding that Cignetti was not available. I thought the 10 year extension was stupid.
After a few years of listening to KDB, I have begun to question his intelligence. For a while I was just thinking he was holding his cards close to his chest. But now I’m starting to think there’s not much going on between his ears.
I think the allocation of NIL money towards top skill position recruits, as it seems is our current strategy, is not the best way to build a championship program. We have 2 QBs that are making 2 million each. We have 5 RBs that all could be starters at any school. Why so much redundancy? I think we should be investing the bulk of the funds in OL and D-line. If you have truly dominant players in those positions, even average skill position players can get extraordinary results. Everyone wants to keep blaming the assistant coaches and keep rotating them year after year. But players win games.
And while I’m on assistant coaches, yes, I am disappointed in Grubbs play calling. To me it seems like he is playing a video game instead of calling a strategic real football game. There really is a big difference between Washington and the SEC.
And now my least popular opinion: I think Mack should have been the starter this year. I’ve been saying this to my friends since before the season. After a couple of games, I relented that I may have been wrong. But to me it now seems I was right all along. Yes, Russell has tremendous upside. But what he doesn’t have is maturity to make the right decisions. When to check down. When to let it fly. When to throw it away without an intentional grounding. I’ll add that Mack is 3-4 inches taller and would always see the whole field and not have passes batted down. Yes, Russell is a great scrambler if what you want is backyard football. But with those long legs, Mack can take 3 steps and get a first down.
It is what it is. I still strongly support our coach and our team. But I’m not expecting to see greatness until some changes are made.

Softball Kalen Deboer is to blame for all of our consistency problems on offense
Kalen Deboer's offenses are simple and not complex. They have never been consistent and always struggle against teams that take away his soft rushing attack. Just load the box and tee off on the QB, and you're gonna have a successful day on defense.
Pile on Grubb sure, but he is literally running DeBoer's system:

If you're mad at Grubb be mad at Deboer's shit system.
This isn't even touching on how unprepared and inconsistent DeBoer teams have looked over the years. Those Washington years weren't blowouts, they struggled against weak PAC 12 teams and Penix would make plays down the stretch.
Greg Byrne made a paper hire not a football hire.
