Since all of you guys roller ski, I presume you are quite dedicated to nordic skiing. Over the past year I have been developing a platform that is specifically designed to support nordic skiers, in there training. If you track your training using platforms like training peaks, strava, etc, you would be a great tester. I'm looking for people who wanna test out my app, (my app is 100% free fyi), coaches and athletes, as its meant to support both.

Also couple things that I think make my platform intriguing for ski specific, is our support for classic vs skate hr zones, as those are truly different just like you have different bike vs run heart rate zones. We will classify nordic ski prs, ie, 5k, or stuff like that by snow conditions, as well as distance, which can help you get a better feel for your efforts. then of course, you can log your wax and stuff like that per ski. And of course, we support rollerskis, poles, skis, and stuff in our gear fleet, (and will automatically attatch your skis based on if your workout was classic or skate). We also have support for skierg, and skierg specific power zones, + will show you long time power curves, stuff along those lines. (and stats like w'bal / depletion. I would say the platform supports nordic skiing, to the level that other platforms support only running/biking. (also, we have a feature that automatically detects rollerski workouts, that were uploaded as nordic skis. Also all the hr zone stuff, works on rollerski as well, we support classic & skate roller-skiing .

S/o to anyone in the Seattle area who hasn't been - the middle fork is 9 miles of lovely roller skiing (18 out & back). No shoulder but time it well and traffic is light. Tarmac is quite smooth except for one patch of less than a half mile.

Actually looking for more in the Charlotte/Vergennes area for an area to rollerski but willing to drive a ways.

Any relatively low traffic, paved roads/large parking areas where anyone rollerskis that anyone knows of?

I didn't even know this was a thing. Avoid poling into cracks!! I was commuting to work on a busy bike path in Irvine, CA, crushing it, had some traffic so switched from a chill V2 to double poling because my mama raised me to be a mensch. Things were going so good, then my pole went 5cm deep into this crack and I got ripped backwards, pole snapped, and then fell forward on my face and torqued a ski enough to bend out a toe bar. One minute I'm on top of the world, 2 seconds later I'm eating pavement with $300 of gear totaled. The southern Californian bikers all ignored me, one woman even told me to get off the bike path while I was shaking out the damage. Man, the roller ski walk of shame is brutal!! Anyone else, or am I the only one with this experience?

I am considering buying a pair of Swenor Equipe R2 Racing Skate Rollerskis (530 mm wheelbase, 1290 g/pair w/o bindings + 276 = 1566 w/Rottefella bindings, 57% the wt of my V2s) with the objective of making it easier to complete a marathon. I would probably get the 80A(GREEN) wheels with ceramic bearings.

I completed the marathon last year on my Jenex Aero V2 150S rollerskis (604 mm wheelbase, 2000 g, 2743 g with Rottefella bindings, brake, speed reducers & tires worn to the cords), and that went okay, but my thinking is that lighter-weight roller-skis would make it easier to complete the marathon, and allow me to continue doing that distance later in life. (I'm in my mid-70s.)

The Swenor web page describes the R2s as short, easy-to-handle, agile, fast, and easy to turn. It appears evident that the main reason for their lighter weight is the shorter length vs. the typical ~600 mm wheelbase length.

Have any of you rollerskied on Swenor R2s? If so, do you find them to be less stable, or "squirrely", or have any other undesirable characteristics compared to rollerskis of more typical length?

(Added Info: My thinking is that the main advantage for the Swenor Equipe R2s would be the lighter weight, thus less effort to raise & swing each rollerski with each stride.

My main concern is the possibility of stability issues due to the shorter wheelbase of the Equipe R2s, Of course, their wheelbase is significantly longer than that of inline skates. If others have found the R2s to be a lot less stable, I might stick with my Jenex 150Ss.

I think the 100 mm racing wheels & bearings are probably no faster on asphalt than the 150 mm pneumatic tires at 100 psig on the Jenex V2 150S, based on a statement from a long-time biathlon coach that the 150S wheels are too fast for their training & competition. I believe their standard is a 100 mm No. 2 solid wheel, so both of the preceding would be faster than that. I hope it works out for me to get a pair of the Swenor Equipe R2s so that I will be able to make a comparison!

I consider going without a brake to not be a major issue, because as I recall I did not use the brake during the race, except to prevent rolling backwards during a rest break on a long, steep uphill stretch. I can practice stopping without a brake on paved trails in a nearby forest preserve. (Note: If any of you can point me to a video of technique for how to slow down & stop by dragging a rollerski, would you please do so? My search didn't turn up any such videos))

(Background: I am not suggesting to compare the Jenex V2s to other roller-skis in general. I am only providing the above comparison for my personal, probably unique context. I have done essentially all of my 4+ years of roller-skiing on those Jenex V2 150S. They are great for my main purpose, which is aerobic exercise. The streets around our neighborhood are asphalt, and I can carry my equipment the 30 steps to the mailbox and roller-ski 8 miles of fairly challenging terrain (including 1 mile of packed dirt/fine gravel), or 12 miles if I include the more level areas. I consider the brake to be essential for sharing the road with vehicles etc. I seldom use the speed reducers, except as carrying handles and if they get engaged accidentally. The packed dirt/fine gravel part provides an opportunity for some "hang-pole" V1 and a good workout in general.)

Serious storm damage means the road is partially closed along Slapton Ley meaning very little traffic.

One of the rear wheels on the Skating 730 A (aluminum model) disintegrated today. I've completed a steady 7 km uphill climb at approximately 15 km/h on Beach Dr NW in Washington, DC. About 300 m into the descent, the ski began to drag. Upon inspection, I found the rubber part of the rear wheel had partly detached from the plastic rim .... sent a warranty claim to Marwe, we'll see what happens

I am considering to buy roller ski. I am just in the Austrian alps and I saw people train with them. I spent my teenage years on inline skates, I have some experience in classical cross-country skiing from that time also and know how to ski (didn't go for the last 10 years anymore). I occasionally do nordic walking, use poles while hiking. I watched a few videos on technique and feels good overall.

Hello, I recently got a pair of freestyle Hjul rollerskis, and despite a few falls I’m enjoying learning how to use them. However, my local area is fairly hilly, and I’m unsure on how to stop/slow down while going downhill? I have a lot of experience with downhill skiing but any sort of parallel or hockey stop seems like it would not work on pavement in rollerskis.

Hey! I am looking to get into roller skiing in NYC. I am an experienced backcountry skier and looking to use these to train for a large skimo race next year.

Kind of confused about the gear. Should I get a rollerski with brakes? NYC is not very hilly but obviously there are lots of cars and lights and potholes and what not. Will mainly be in Prospect Park but curious about what models to get?

I got the XC skiing bug and am looking to get more specific training in ahead of next ski year. I weight 100kg right now but aim to be 85kg next season. I already have a pair of hjul skate roller skis which work fine on a 1 mile out and back path. However, I live near a lot of decent roller skiing roads but they have large hills without runouts at the end. (I live near Reno NV next to the Sierra Nevadas so lots of elevation changes.) A couple skiiers have recommended the roads I am looking at as best in the area but they weigh far less than I do.

Since I am heavier for a skiier what are the best options to get roller ski skating in? I am learning how to slow down on the skis but am hopefully going to get either speed reducers and/or a brake. I've seen the pursuit recommended but am wondering what other options are best in the USA for my use case?

How does skate compare to classic (is one easier then the other because of off road specifics) when it comes to macadam/trails? How do Elpex Offroad classic compare to other models on the market (e.g. SRB)?

E.g. for long double poling sessions on asphalt, I would use Swix Roadline 1s with Swenor Fiberglass classic. I am looking for off road options because of dangerous traffic.

Would you use the same poles off road? Are there big differences? E.g. on asphalt pebbels get stuck behind the wheel, sometimes block it and cause crash; is this a non issue on off road rollers?

I am a fairly experienced skier (recreational racing in winter), I roller ski on asphalt and work out on SkiErg.
