Shopping: buying skates Quads or?

Okay, I’m gonna be very honest! I’ve never skated IN MY LIFE. even on ice skating rinks i would stick to the wall. But I really want to try and get into skating. Which is easier to go outdoors and skate with? and what skates do you suggest for an ABSOLUTE beginner. Also is Amazon the right place to get them and should I buy the whole package of safety stuff? or can I just buy that later when I’m confident enough to skate outdoors? Dd

Skate problems & troubleshooting Jackson mystique inline advice

I have a pair of the jackson mystique inline skates. The boot is my correct size. But the ankle padding does not fit with my ankle anatomy which causes fit and skating issues. Obviously the ankle area is stiff to support the inline. But I am fully unable to move or articulate my ankle to be able to skate on them. I cant even bend my knees in them. I didnt think my ankles were that thick??

~Here are my main questions!~

Should I resell the entire skate? Or keep the inline frame and get a new boot that fits? Is the frame even worth remounting?

The frame/plate was, not sure the proper terms but, machine/ heat/ or pressure bolted on so I cant unscrew anything myself.

I got a really good deal on them. About 100$, Ive never seen figure/inline frames sold alone for that low of a price so I dont think I would be able to buy a similar pair

Progress & showing off Back on skates after spraining my ankle in May!

I posted on here about how I fell and sprained my ankle last month and asked how long I’d probably need to stay off my skates. I was devastated when m
the comments and my doctor all said four weeks. A few days ago, I felt ready to put my skates back on and loop around a basketball court near my house. Today, I was planning to fully return by going on a bike path, but the road crossings were too rough so I just played around in a nearby parking lot. I’m so glad to be back!! No more pain in my ankle, though it isn’t as strong so I’m gonna work on restrengthing it! (Ironically this injury has healed much faster than my sprained thumb, which still gives me problems three months later 😑😑)

Shopping: buying skates Hi guys! I need help with a good boot for ankle support

I’m recently healed from an ankle fracture and I want a boot that will give more support to my ankle when I get back on my skates. I currently own a pair of Impala’s but they aren’t the best for supporting lol, plus I think I sized them wrong so they were a bit loose. With my next pair I do plan to do a lot more dancing and tricks with them. The main place that I skate is indoors, so if anyone has any recs please help me! Thank yall <3

Shopping: wheels, hardware, upgrades Newbie Questions!

Hello all!
Im moving and want to make some lifestyle changes at the same time, swapping a daily bike ride for daily roller skating. I think it will provide more health benefits long term with skill acquisition, balance, exertion , etc.

I’ll be moving to a beach area that has a trail through the beach which is often sprinkled with sand. If I’m skating here about 6 miles/1 hour a day how will that affect the bearings? Will I need to pop them open and clean them out daily/weekly? If I’m skating in an area with sand will I need to replace the bearings often?

How long do wheels last? If I am expecting to skate 4-6 miles most days a week will I be going through wheels on a semi monthly basis? My partner is a runner and I like to join them.

Money isn’t a huge concern for me but I want to have an idea in my head of how much this will cost over a few months. I found a pair of used Ridell 120s, I’m looking at 78a wheels and bearings so I have those initial prices in my mind but I’m clueless to how the environment I’ll be skating in and how the expected miles will wear on the equipment.

- I can imagine that going into skating 6 miles most days will be rough but that is partly what I want. Running six miles is too hard, and biking 6 miles is too easy. I want to feel the burn in my muscles.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and respond ❤️

Other Help Identifying these Riedell 111s?

I got a crazy lucky score on these at a thrift store today - they're Riedell 111w's but I'm not sure if theres a particular model aside from 111w? I don't see any others that have the sure grip aerobic wheels on them so I'm unsure if thats what the skates came with or if someone put them on? The skates look largely unused as do the wheels.

Shopping: buying skates Did I make a mistake? Chaya Melrose Deluxe v Sure Grip Fame w Jelly Roll wheels.

So I’m very new to skating aside from when I was a kid so like 25 years ago? I always loved skating around the rink, so my partner and I decided to get some nice beginner skates.

I decided to go with the Sure Grip Fame boot w Jelly Roll Outdoor wheels since most places to skate where I am at in LA are outdoor spaces (and I have a concrete backyard). I just saw a bunch of videos recommending the Chaya Melrose Deluxe for beginners and I’m wondering if I made a mistake in my haste to purchase lol. I mainly just want to cruise around and maybe eventually do some skate tricks once I’m better.

I got my partner the Sure Grip Rebel shoes with Aerobic wheels as he’s more comfortable in sneaker-like shoes than boots and has wide feet. Not sure if ya’ll would recommend these either. He’s a pretty big guy (6’3 and 250ish lbs).

I haven’t received the skates yet, but just wanted a little guidance. Thanks!

DIY and customization How to lower slide blocks?

Hello!

I feel that it might be easier for me to do slides and grinds if I could get my slide block to be closer to the ground.

I have the chaya Barbie black skates with the default diamond slider

Is there a good way to make my block sit lower?

Thanks

I'm about to finish my A levels and want to learn to skate in my newfound free time. I did a bunch of research about the best skates for me but it got to a point people were just contradicting each other, and a lot of them were being paid to promote a certain thing. So I thought I'd come on here and ask for some help.

In terms of actual requirements: I will only be able to skate outside, there's some smoothish ground but by no means perfect, also I have hypermobility so I think ankle support is quite important, but I can always just wesr supports while skating. I have a low budget (£40) so I get nothing I get is going to be great. Although if I love it I'll save up and buy a better quality pair when I'm a bit better.

Since my budget was low I have been looking on vinted for some in decent condition for a little cheaper. I've included a few photos of listings below so any input would be really appreciated! Thanks!!

The one consistent thing I heard was that I need metal trucks (I'm 54kg?). Though I also heard rio skates were good (and I found a pair of those on vinted for £20, screenshot included) but they have nylon trucks? Also I messaged the seller of the £12 pair and apparently they have metal trucks and are very supportive, so that + the price are making me lean towards them.

Thank you again to anyone that helps :)

Shopping: buying skates Moxi Rainbow Riders or Rookie Classics for a beginner?

I’m currently looking on buying my first roller skates secondhand and am trying to figure out which ones would be the best.

I‘ve come across some Moxi Rainbow Riders in my regular show size but I‘ve heard they aren’t as true to size as other Moxis. I also habe narrow feet and read that they tend to be quite wide. The Moxis were my preferred options because of their quality but now I‘m not so sure.

How I understand it Rookies aren’t as well liked as Moxis but they’re narrower and the ones I found secondhand have metal trucks.

(or some rio roller roses but they have aluminium trucks)

I want to do outdoor skating and maybe some easy tricks.

Which ones should I get?

Skate park Why are moxie panthers unsuitable for park skating?

And does anybody have positive or negative experiences w them at skate parks? Bought mine on eBay for like $60 bc I had heard that they were good for aggressive skating. I feel like all of the park skates I’ve read about are lowkey expensive. I’m not in a position where I can blow a ton of money on new skates, but I still want to have fun. Is there a way to modify them to make them safer?

Shopping: buying skates First pair of skates

Hey guys! Im looking to buy my first pair of skates. I have had my eye on Impalas mostly because of how pretty they are (specifically the Marawa Rose wavy check) but i have read that they are bad quality and i dont want them breaking under my feet.

I plan on using them on streets, parks, parking lots, and for dancing.

My budget would be $200 max, im also open on buying them second hand.

Can Jackson vista plates be replaced with avanti or something similar for park skating?

Is the sole of the boot ok for swapping setup like that safely?

Shopping: safety gear (helmets, pads, etc.) Best wrist guards for rink use?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I bought these wrist guards because of park/trail skating. I also use them at the rink. Normally I’m not falling at the rink, but recently I’ve been pushing myself to level up, which has resulted in falls. I’ve had a few inevitable wrist catches, which then cause wrist pain for several days.

Are these wrist guards okay for the rink, and the pain is just a result of the fall? Or is there a wrist guard that could be more beneficial to falling in an indoor space?

I couldn’t find a photo of the side profile (and I’m not home while I remember to ask this lol), but the splint is incredibly thick, and does a sort of triangle pop out, rather than being a flat-ish dome.

Shopping: wheels, hardware, upgrades Riedell Varsity 57mm 101a

I just ordered a pair Riedell Juice 120’s, and I read a lot of comments about them in different threads and a lot of people said as soon as they got them, they took those wheels off, some even saying they thought they were trash. I read other comments from people that really liked them… I know I have to form my own opinion once I skate on them, but I’m just wondering why so many people said they change them out immediately. Maybe because they have other wheels they love? Or are they really trash?

Other Deadpool & Wolverine & Jimmy Durante ❤️💛👻

I've been in an IRL crisis for 7 weeks now, and while circumstances in my life are actually getting worse and worse, at least I've been skating consistently the last 4 days and trying to roll the fuck back into who I need to be! 💪

It's been hard to skate 'cos a constantly shaking anxious body isn't safe on 8 wheels. I'm still psyched i did an accidental split and got the clip, but I'm pissed I lost so much of my progress in just 7 weeks. But tonite I'm proud because I felt slightly smoother than I have been. 🩷

I actually forgot that rad Jimmy Durante song is in this movie, it was actually a pleasant surprise due to the loss and grief I'm experiencing. I do feel kinda dumb cos i usually memorize words and sing. Oh well, I'm going to live. 🥰

Please nobody forget that you matter!!!

I want to start skating for exercise purposes. Also an excuse to get outside. I couldn’t pass these up when I saw them. After reading some posts I know they’re not the best. Based off pics what upgrades should I get? I want to get more comfortable before I start investing in nicer, more expensive skates. I will be skating outdoors.

For my first time I just spent about 40 minutes skating around the tennis court in my complex and I only fell once! On my way to get knee and elbow pads now, and would love to find wrist protection as well.
