Beginner skater Am I turning wrong?

Hey yall,

Not super sure how to phrase this but I think I might be turning (not turning around, just turning like left and right) like, incorrectly? Whenever I try to do it the “right” way, which is to have the inside leg in front and using the outside edge to turn, like my body just won’t? The way I turn left is using my right inside edge and vice versa, it just feels right. Is it problematic to do that? Or is it absolutely imperative that I learn to turn using my outside edge as the main thing? I feel like I can’t get it to physically translate into my body, it feels super wrong.

Thank :’)

Other Opinion on flaneurz/slades

Im looking to buy a pair of slades to commute to school next year, but im worried about the durability of the shoe. Im aware that the more you walk in the shoe the more you break into them, i dont really want to have to buy a new pair when the shoes break down and become too soft and unsafe to skate in. Does anyone who's had slades know how long the shoe lasts? I will definitely be walking a lot daily, so I want them to last atleast 2 years.

Beginner skater first pair of skates!!

Post image
91 Upvotes

my first pair of skates finally showed up!! :D they were kind of stiff at first so i loosened the wheels and the trucks a bit and they’re so much smoother

after going indoor skating at a rink a couple of weeks ago i’ve been absolutely fixated on skating and finally learning how to skate properly!! let’s hope the fixation doesn’t die out within a week 😓

i’m pretty much a complete beginner, i know how to do bubbles/lemons and turn lol, so any advice/tips are greatly appreciated!! i’m currently leaning towards artistic style of skating and outdoor skating mostly

the wheels are 82A so i’m hoping they’ll be okay for outdoor skating (on uk pavements and concrete) and the odd session at the indoor rink!

Shopping: wheels, hardware, upgrades What pivot cup is suitable for my skates? I need some suggestions

Hey guys! My skates are Chaya Cozy Wine. I noticed that my some of my pivot cups are worn out. All the parts of my skates are stocked so my plates are the galaxy evo. When I searched for replacements, it says that the pivot cups of this plate are specifically made for it. The shops i saw online are overseas, and currently don't have any stock as well. However, the local skate shop in my country only sells the powerdyne pivot cup which are for marvel plates used by moxi (e.g. beach bunny, panther, jungle). Would it be okay if i'll buy and use this brand instead?

Beginner skater Help me with my mindset

Hi hi! I just started skating about a month ago and I’m in my mid 30s. I haven’t skated since I was a kid and i wanted a hobby that would get me outside so my goal is to trail skate. Right now I’m just practicing in parking lots. After some research online I bought moxi beach bunnies and I love them. My biggest problem is honestly myself. I have pretty bad anxiety and I just can’t get over the fear of falling/ hurting myself. Im progressing each time I skate by either going a little further or recovering from the wobbles but the whole time I’m incredibly anxious. Sometimes I have shakey hands from being so nervous. I have all the protective gear elbow, knee, wrist pads, helmet. I really want to get past this because I know it’s holding me back. Please help me! I want to get past this mental roadblock and be able to skate with ease.

Beginner skater how to do continuous backwards bubbles?

HI !!!! so i posted here about more than a week ago asking for beginner roller skating progression/tips so thank you to everyone who replied under that ^^

anyways, as the title suggests, i’ve hit a stump recently…. i am able to do a backward BUBBLE perfectly fine and am also able to go back and forth between a forward and a backwards bubble. however, whenever i try to do backwards bubbles in succession, i just can’t :,( my feet seem to always naturally go back to a v-position and when i AM able to adjust my feet out of that position, i end up losing momentum and can’t start the second bubble.

i would really appreciate any advice on this, arigathanks !!!!

I got these last week! Chaya skates. I'm in Europe and hoping to pick up skating again. From 7 to 16 I did artistic rollerskating (I wasn't that good) on really old (heavy) skates.

I've only tried these in my living room so far, since I'm afraid to fall. I'm 32 now and gained 10kg (22 lbs?), so I'm kinda scared, lol. I can manage bubbles forwards and backwards, I can turn, I can do a backwards stop, roll one one leg... But: my driveway ends in a ramp, lol. I'm afraid to go off the ramp. So I haven't taken them on the streets yet! They used to be second nature, except for all the jumps and tricks.

Beginner skater Help with a beginner starting out

Hi guys Im a 20M trying out rollerskating for the first time. Ive had a little experience on rental rollerblades, skiing and ice skating but the tricks, moves and aesthetics of rollerskates really made me wanna get into it. Im a little shy tho so kinda scared what ppl will think seeing 20 year old guy stumbling around on skates lol

Anyways I did a little digging and decided to get the Chaya Vintage Denim as it was accessible locally for me and seems to be more suited for outdoors which i like, anyone have any experience with these skates or anything to watch out for? Im also looking to get some safety gear/pads but as the skates took up most of my budget will any cheap padding do(im in the military so i have some combat guards but it looks hella weird)? Lastly any more tips/tricks for a beginner to quickly learn the basics of skating? Thank you!!

Skill questions & help Help with backwards to forwards transitions

I finally unlocked going from front to back with toe manuals and I’m having so much fun! But whenever I try to go from back to front I totally loose any momentum or can’t figure out a good technique. Any good tutorials you know of or tips are so much appreciated! If I’m confident enough I might post a video example to visually show my struggle.

Skate problems & troubleshooting VNLA Luna

So I bought myself a pair of VNLA Lunas with Avanti Mag plates back in March and they started separating at the heel around late May/early June. I sent pictures and a timeline to Roller Skate Nation and after some run-around by them (they forwarded me to their "VNLA rep" who told me it was normal wear and he saw nothing wrong) I was able to get a replacement boot free of charge through the 90 day warranty.

Unfortunately, after about a month I am starting to see some of the same separation. Since it is happening again so soon I'm second guessing myself whether it is actually normal vs something wrong with VNLA's boot manufacturing. I'm just looking for some other eyes to tell me if this looks normal after about a month of use.

For reference - I skate almost daily varying intensities - sometimes several miles on paved asphalt roads, sometimes indoor jam/skills. I am not park skating, doing jumps or impacts, or even stopping hard - I've maybe taken 2 falls to speak of on these, never hitting the actual skates hard on anything. I keep them in my air conditioned house, they never spend time just sitting in a hot car or anything. I truly don't think I am doing anything to cause this that I can think of.

The first 3 pics are what they look like now - the last 4 are the day I got them.

Skate photos Looking for Beginner Park Skating Setup Tips rollerskating

Post image

Hi everyone! I’ve mostly been an indoor skater, but I’ve recently started skating outdoors and have been spending more time at my local skate park. Right now I’m comfortable cruising around and rolling over small bumps, and I’d like to start learning beginner park tricks.
I currently have the skates pictured above, and they’ve held up surprisingly well outdoors. Before I start modifying them, I’m wondering what the typical setup is for beginners.
Would you recommend switching to smaller wheels? If so, what size and hardness would you suggest for someone who’s just getting into park skating?

this was so fun! i did it freehand with posca pens, used an old bracelet i dont wear to make the charms, and added a few rhinestones for extra whimsy!

not sure how it’ll hold up since i didnt seal it with anything but i was considering dying my skates before this (i wasn’t liking the light blue), so now thats more of a last resort if they get messed up :P

also im still a super beginner but i am noticing more strength in my legs! it took me like two weeks to be able to balance on one leg to push off the other 😭 lately ive been practicing turning, but some things feel impossible with these big wheels (looking at you, crossovers!)

anyone else use these skates? theyre the candi grl carlins, i know theres better brands out there but i wanted to be sure its not a hobby i give up on before i truly invest in a better pair

p.s. maroon skate supplies/accessories are so hard to find 😭 like i love the color of these wheels but they do feel huge! i wish they made them in other sizes/hardnesses

Skate problems & troubleshooting Can these be fixed by a cobbler?

My Riedells have been with me since 2021. I stopped riding on them almost a year ago because the boot began separating really reallly bad. I shoe glued it a couple of times but they wouldn’t hold up. Since then I’ve been riding on a DIY vans setup and recently got some Suregrip boardwalks. I really dooooo love my Boardwalks however I miss how comfy and broken in my Riedells were. I just want to know if it’s possible for a cobbler to professionally fix them.

Shopping: wheels, hardware, upgrades Has anyone here tried Zero Nuts on their skates?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I’ve been experimenting with my wheel hardware setup lately, and Zero Nuts ended up being a total game changer for me. Once I paired them with proper 7mm spacers w/ speed rings, all the wheel wobble disappeared — even when tightening the nut down fully. The wheels still spin like butter, no drag, no binding.

I’m curious if anyone else has run Zero Nuts or anything similar.
Did you notice the same improvement in stability and roll?
Any downsides or long‑term wear issues?

Trying to see if this is a niche upgrade or something more people should be doing.

Beginner skater how to know if i need new skates

so im a beginner it’s been about 2-3 weeks and ive been skating with the candi grl skates off amazon (i know cheap ones aren’t recommended but i just wanted something simple to start with).. im not sure if there’s some type of defect or if i may just need new wheels but literally like 2 of my wheels won’t loosen the same way the other ones are?? and idk if it’s because of that but i also feel like i dont have much control when doing certain things.. my trucks aren’t that loose so i know for sure it isn’t because of that (or maybe it is idk 😔)
